This time LAST YEAR Bunny & Cadbury were abandoned left to die with no food or water... THIS YEAR they are spending the 🎄 holiday season with loving foster families, alive & healthy! 🙏 Thanks to their LOVING FOSTERS Patty & Marvila these 2 special pups have a home for the holidays surrounded family, love & joy of the season. It has been a ✨ MAGICAL holiday season for these 2 special pups!

This is also why FOSTERING SAVES LIVES. Fostering is the MOST IMPORTANT part in rescue organizations being able to save deserving animals lives… without a loving foster home to go to… to recover, to trust humans & to prepare for their furever homes… Dogs can NOT be rescued.

Bunny & Cadbury are LIVING PROOF fostering is worth it! If more people stepped up to foster, more amazing dogs could have a 2nd chance like 🐰&🐣.

IF YOU WANT TO FOSTER, we encourage you to reach out to a local rescue or DM & we’ll connect you with a reputable rescue organization in your area.

IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING FOSTERING, please go to a local animal shelter & visit the amazing dogs there that desperately need help out… We promise you will have a change of heart! Fostering will not only SAVE the life of the dog but it will CHANGE yours for the better.

🐣 CADBURY IS ✅ KID APPROVED! Watch to see 13-year old Tommy & Cadbury practicing obedience/leash training, dog kisses/hugs & belly rubs (Cad’s favorite)… & some great photos of them together!

Marina’s son, Tommy, a teen Triathlete & football star, was very helpful in the onset leash-training CADBURY, who that doesn’t know he’s a big boy… BUT turns out Cad is just a GENTLE GIANT, he learned leash quickly, & was especially docile & a silly goofball 😜 with Tommy… it’s IMPOSSIBLE not to love Cad!

We’ve been so blessed that Tommy has joined us in some of our training sessions, not only because is quite the young dog whisperer… BUT to see how GREAT Bunny & Cadbury are WITH KIDS! They actually do everything BETTER with him in obedience & leash training… AND afterwards they let him know by giving him tons of kisses. The footage here speaks for itself… He is GREAT with them & they are AMAZING dogs!

Tommy loves them as much as we do that he even held a Piano Concert Fundraiser in August for them (also posted live on YouTube) & he raised over $1K! Not only is Tommy incredibly talented on piano, but he shared their rescue story, his experience with them & statistics of GSDs in animal shelters! Already superstar in scholastics, sports & music, this teen is also an inspiration for our youth by creating awareness about the animal shelter crisis in our country. Tommy is destined for greatness & we are so happy for him to be a part of Bunny & Cadbury’s journey… we know they are too!

A BIG THANK YOU to those of you who watched Tommy’s piano concert & generously donated to support his cause for Bunny & Cadbury. These donations are what made Bunny’s spay surgery possible 🙏

🐰 BUNNY IS ✅ KID APPROVED! Watch to see 13-year old Tommy & Bunny practicing obedience/leash training, dog love & treats (Bunny’s favorite)… & some great photos of them together!

Marina’s son, Tommy, has been such a Godsend assisting in training/walking BUNNY since he has the SAME ENDLESS ENERGY as her… He can keep up with her need to run/play fetch, go on long walks & to practice training/human bonding… Bunny was a natural walking on leash & is quite enamored ❤️ with Tommy!

Saving Bunny & Cadbury is the CATALYST that brought us together, BUT in the process we have built a life-long friendship… 🐰 & 🐣 RESCUE TEAM… their Foster mom, Patty (center) & their rescuers, Marina (left) & Ashley (right) / ~

This renegade rescue mission has been & STILL IS a JOURNEY. Through the blood, sweat & tears… ALL the laughs, long days, sleepless nights, dog fur, p**p scooping, scratches, bruises, training sessions, bumpy transports, flat tires, vet visits, long walks, endless hours of research, late night phone calls, a million group texts & all the SACRIFICES… We jumped into the trenches of rescue & we are GRATEFUL FOR THIS JOURNEY.

“It’s all about the journey & everything we LEARN along the way”… So we will EMBRACE this journey, TRUST the process & NEVER STOP fighting for the animals that do not have a voice!

IT DOES TAKE A VILLAGE… BUT a Village of the RIGHT HUMANS whose LOVE FOR ANIMALS far outweighs the FEAR of doing things out of your comfort zone… it’s rolling up your sleeves to whatever is NEEDED… it takes people donating resources, time & skills for the LOVE OF RESCUE… AND A LOT of sacrifices, of time & family, knowing that ALL they have is NOW to find their FUREVER lifetime.

WE ALL ♥️ LOVE 🐰 & 🐣 so much & as the Easter Miracle Pups “Dream Team” we will make sure BUNNY & CADBURY get the life that they truly deserve!

TOGETHER we can (& WILL) make more of a difference in our LIFETIME helping to SAVE Euth-listed animals to get a 2ND CHANCE just like 🐰 & 🐣.

A BIG THANK YOU TO…
*SEAACA shelter volunteer for sharing her Instagram reels how special they are & the “1-Hour Left” IG story when we knew we HAD to go save them
* TO being their Foster & 1st loving home, her experience to nurture their healthy comeback & her family for putting up with US & 2 large GSDs
*TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED for Marina’s son Tommy’s Piano Concert Fundraiser in August
**AND… Last but not least, TO OUR FAMILIES for their daily sacrifices to support us through this journey

“It only takes ONE MOMENT to change a life forever”… The moment we rescued Bunny & Cadbury not only saved their lives BUT changed our lives in a way we could NOT have possibly imagined.

That day ignited a fire within us, fueled by the loss of our soul dogs (Lola, Lucy & Joy)… & CATAPULTED US into a crash course in animal rescue, German Shepherds & dog training, connected us with incredible like-minded humans & manifested a friendship for a lifetime.

Our partnership was born the very moment we decided to save these 2 Miracle Dogs the day before Easter. We have been a team for the dogs & their foster every step of the way since that fateful day… vet appts, walks, training & what a WILD JOURNEY it has been!

We are eternally GRATEFUL for this journey… the challenges, the setbacks, the sacrifices, the achievements & all we have learned… EVERY MOMENT along the way has been WORTH IT to save these 2 lives. We are family now with an unbreakable trust & bond, & a united passion to make a difference. One day we will fill the pages of a novel with the unbelievable experiences we’ve shared in this journey!

AND WE ♥️ LOVE Bunny & Cadbury so much! They are such AMAZING dogs & they have come so far since rescue. It’s mind-blowing for how intelligent, loving & loyal they are, German Shepherds are still one of the most common breeds in animal shelters nationwide. We hope their story will INSPIRE & EDUCATE about the breed to help change that. Thankfully there are rescue-focused K-9 organizations that are saving many German Shepherds from looming euthanasia in overcrowded shelters. They do incredible work saving those with specific traits & training them to become life-saving K-9s!

ONE THING IS FOR SURE, we will make sure 🐰&🐣 have the BEST FUREVER LIFE worthy of that fateful MOMENT that changed all of our lives forever!

In the words of Buddha, “ONE MOMENT can change a day, ONE DAY can change a life, & ONE LIFE can change the WORLD.”

CADBURY is quite the handsome gentleman after 1 Month recovering in Foster care! He is a happy, goofy yet very smart boy that loves romping with foster siblings, playing fetch, flopping on his back for belly rubs or trying to lay in your lap (he thinks he’s a small boy! 🤣). Cadbury is eating well, slowly putting on weight & getting stronger by the day! No more brittle fur falling out in clumps… Cadbury’s fur is growing back full, vibrant & shiny! All thanks to their dedicated Foster mom Patty who is doing an incredible job nurturing them both back to health!

BUNNY is looking so beautiful after just 1 Month recovering in Foster care! She is a happy, energetic, intelligent girl that loves chasing the ball, looking for missing balls, figuring out interactive toys, practicing obedience & leash on walks. Bunny is eating well, slowly gaining weight back & getting stronger each day! No more brittle fur falling out in clumps… Bunny’s fur coat is growing back thick, colorful & shiny! All thanks to their dedicated Foster mom Patty who is doing an incredible job nurturing them both back to health!

MIRACLES DO HAPPEN!… ON EASTER SUNDAY 3/31/24, Bunny 🐰 & Cadbury 🐣 woke up on cozy couches in a loving foster home ALIVE, instead of the cold shelter floor waiting to die. Their post-exit Vet exam was the next day 4/1/24… From the moment we arrived, they greeted all the Vet staff with kisses & tail wags. Sensitive that they just left SEAACA, we got a private suite! When the Vet took each back separately to exam, they whined & waited by the door & DID NOT WANT TO BE SEPARATED! So, with all hands on deck they got their exam TOGETHER! Finally calm, they kissed each other & the techs while getting antibiotic shots & test prods... & were named “the Kissing Shepherds” by the staff! The Vet had NEVER SEEN DOGS THAT WERE SO LOVING only 2 days out of the shelter & that clearly were mistreated from their condition, fur falling out & so thin ribs were showing… & HE THANKED US FOR SAVING THEM!

BUT they were A MESS from lack of vet care in the overcrowded shelter… They had ear & sinus infections & were VERY THIN! To keep the 1st Vet experience positive, their ear flushes were scheduled the next day so we could administer a mild sedative prior. MOST IMPORTANTLY, they needed to regain weight slowly to prevent Refeeding Syndrome, when serious complications or even death result from too much food introduced quickly after starvation.

RECOVERY WILL BE SLOW but with a proper regulated diet they could regain healthy body weight & their fur would grow back full & shiny. The Vet recommended WAITING 1 MONTH for full bloodwork & if all levels were normal, they’d get the 2nd DHPP vaccine & Bunny’s rabies shot. POOR BUNNY’S liver levels were so low at SEAACA they would NOT administer her Rabies vaccine upon shelter exit! The Vet also presumed Bunny’s abdomen scar (no tattoo) was a 99% CHANCE FROM SPAY (Cadbury was neutered prior to shelter intake). BUT if Bunny went into heat once healthy, then we would know 1% chance the scar was umbilical & she would need spay surgery.

🐰&🐣 COMEBACK STARTS NOW, in the care of the best Foster mom capable of nurturing them back to health & the 2ND CHANCE THEY SO DESERVE!

Part 2) UNEDITED “FREEDOM” VIDEOS of Bunny & Cadbury’s exit from SEAACA shelter minutes before their Final Euthanasia deadline… We arrived JUST IN TIME & they made it out ALIVE & are SAFE!… LISTEN TO THR SHELTER STAFF talking about how they were all over each other when they were getting their exit vaccines & microchip (they love each other, they only had each other to survive when abandoned & left to die )… IN THIS VIDEO you can see how sweet they are to humans despite their past… So we let them acclimate to the CAR & to US their “FREEDOM RIDE” before driving them to their Foster mom, the incredible human who said YES instantly to foster them BOTH & who is the REAL REASON THEY ARE ALIVE TODAY… FOSTERING truly does SAVE LIVES! 🛟🐰🐣🙏UPDATES since this rescue day to follow…

WATCH TIL THE END!… (Part 1) UNEDITED “FREEDOM” VIDEOS of Bunny & Cadbury’s exit from SEAACA shelter, surviving their Final Euthanasia Deadline BY MINUTES on the Saturday before Easter 3/30/24… the day we spontaneously decided to rescue these 2 special German Shepherds when they had ONLY 1-HOUR LEFT TO LIVE… 🐰&🐣 are truly “Miracle Dogs” to survive abandonment & death (TWICE!), YET still be loving & trusting to ALL humans despite their past. The footage in THIS VIDEO shows just how LOVING they both are giving kisses not only to us BUT TO EACH OTHER!… Listen to the shelter staff telling their story & THANKFUL THEY ARE ALIVE! 🐰&🐣 are literally LIVING PROOF that shelter dogs no matter their past (abandoned, stray, abused, overbred) ALL DESERVE A 2ND CHANCE. Bunny & Cadbury are the INSPIRATION for & are ALIVE TODAY because of our partnership formed on THIS VERY DAY, when AGAINST ALL ODDS we went on our 1st rescue mission together TO SAVE the sweetest, trained, most deserving dogs we’ve ever seen (& met).

UPDATES since this rescue day to follow…

** THANK YOU TO & the SEAACA shelter staff for capturing these videos for us & for fighting for their extensions to help Bunny & Cadbury make it out alive!

When we shared THIS FINAL STORY on Saturday morning 3/30/24… We had NO idea the “HERO” we were hoping would STEP-UP TO SAVE Bunny & Cadbury would be US, their LAST DAY TO BE SAVED, their 2nd Extension & FINAL Euthanasia Deadline was at 2PM that afternoon at SEAACA animal shelter… this was our Hail Mary, our final plea for help, our last request to share… just HOPING & PRAYING that someone would come to save them BEFORE it was too late 🙏 …

Then at 1PM, when we saw these 2 Volunteer’s stories that Bunny & Cadbury had 1-HOUR LEFT TO LIVE… that day would be Bunny & Cadbury’s LAST DAY ON EARTH & NO ONE WAS COMING to save them before 2PM… We decided we could NOT LET THEM DIE after all they had been through & still survived… Against all odds we went to save Bunny🐰 & Cadbury 🐣 on that Saturday before Easter.

3 of the 10 dogs (3rd PHOTO) - Jasmine, Barley & Raider - did NOT make it out alive by the EOD 3/30/24 💔

Bunny & Cadbury would’ve had the same fate as JASMINE, BARLEY & RAIDER on that Saturday. These 3 dogs did NOT deserve to die, like countless others they were lost in the broken system… when young, sweet JASMINE was refused by a potential adopter because of her limp from a completely fixable injured paw/leg, she was immediately added to the Euth-list… poor BARLEY arrived terrified, neglected & injured then shortly after caught kennel cough that left him defeated & shut down laying on his blanket with his back turned in his kennel which got him escalated to the Euthanasia list not long after arrival… & when the kindest, gentle RAIDER was owner-surrendered him on a lie as a “biter” he was unadoptable, rescue-only & a liability if rescued because of his “history” which ultimately signed his death warrant… They ALL deserved so much better.

Rest In Peace JASMINE, RAIDER & BARLEY… In your honor, we will make sure Bunny & Cadbury get the best 2nd chance.

Our rescue volunteer partnership started IN ONE DAY with our 1ST RESCUE MISSION… the Day we (only rescue volunteers at the time), against all odds, spontaneously decided to save 2 German Shepherds from SEAACA shelter when they had 1-HOUR LEFT TO LIVE before their Final Euthanasia Deadline… Their names are Bunny🐰 & Cadbury🐣, our Miracle Dogs, rescued on the Saturday before Easter 3/30/24.

Bunny & Cadbury (& a Silky terrier) were found by animal control near death ABANDONED on a property with for approx. 2 weeks with NO FOOD or WATER, only rain water. They survived 3 days hospitalization only to be Red-listed for Euthanasia after only 5 weeks in shelter care due to overcrowding.

DESPITE having every reason never to trust humans again, Bunny & Cadbury are so LOVING TO ALL HUMANS. They are literally LIVING PROOF that shelter dogs no matter their past (abandoned, stray, abused, overbred) ALL DESERVE A 2ND CHANCE. By sharing their “Miracle Story” we hope to inspire others to help stray/shelter dogs just like them that deserve to live & get a 2nd chance.

10/26/2024

We all know there’s power in numbers & this couldn’t be more true in the animal rescue community… To save an animal’s life it truly “TAKES A VILLAGE”. It’s a collective effort to actually make a difference… SHARE. EDUCATE. DONATE. VOLUNTEER. FOSTER. ADOPT (a rescue animal)… Each of these play an INTEGRAL PART in helping Rescues SAVE many innocent dogs lives.

What better way to inspire others than sharing our experiences first-hand AND who would we be helping in the rescue world if we didn’t participate in ALL of these integral parts?!… We SHARE Euth-listed “SOS” dogs, Fosters needed, Rescue dogs up for adoption, Adoption events & Rescue fundraisers… We EDUCATE about the animal shelter/stray crisis on social media, with family/friends & basically everywhere we go… We DONATE to Rescues to have the necessary funds to save dogs before Euthanasia & medical/transportation costs… We VOLUNTEER for transporting & training rescue dogs, participating in adoption events, creating social media content & vetting foster/adopter applications… We FOSTER to give rescues a safe landing spot to decompress or temp-foster during a long-term foster’s vacation.

… & WE ADOPT! We both have ADOPTED rescue dogs; EACH are miracle blessings in our lives. Marina adopted foster Loki from Save a Bow Wow rescue when she realized her home wasn’t the same without a fur baby; then foster-failed Lily (when Loki gave his approval); & shortly after her current foster, Coconut, joined her pack. Ashley foster-failed & adopted Mochi from Rovers Retreat rescue after realizing they extended a foster weekend to continue fostering because Lucky Boy Mochi had stole their hearts & was right where he should be… home with them furever!

Dogs come into our lives to teach us about love, they depart to teach us about loss. A new dog never replaces a soul dog; it merely expands the heart. Through our animal rescue involvement after losing our soul dogs, we have both learned that not only is our ♥️ capable of loving a dog again BUT that we have YET SO MUCH LOVE TO GIVE OTHER DOGS IN NEED! 🐶🌈🙏🛟

“No time on earth is long enough to share with the animals we love or prepare our hearts to say goodbye.” Grieving a soul dog changes you to the core; only if you’ve experienced this devastating loss could you possibly understand the very real pet loss grief that follows. It wasn’t until we deeply bonded over the loss of our soul dogs being the inspiration to help in animal rescue that our passion in rescue aligned… & it’s been team curly hair women wearing purple tshirts volunteering for animal rescues EVER SINCE… & that’s why we call ourselves, Curls2theRescue! 👯‍♀️💜🛟🐾

Marina lost her bonded sister soul dogs Lola & Lucy, in October 2020 & October 2021; & Ashley lost her soul dog Joy in July 2023. For such a small creatures with short lives in our lifetime, their impact was tremendous teaching us without uttering a word to… love unconditionally; live in the moment; enjoy the little things; be loyal to those deserving; forgive & forget easily; say hello & goodbye like it’s your last; & make a difference while you are here. In honor of Lola, Lucy & Joy; we hope to make a difference in animal rescue by helping save dogs to live beautiful, adventurous lives in loving homes like they had. 🐶🌈🙏🛟

By sharing the ♥️ of OUR WHY, we hope to inspire YOU to help shelter dogs… whether it’s SHARING awareness… or VOLUNTEERING at an animal shelter… or DONATING to a rescue to have $ to save dogs… or FOSTERING to save a rescue’s life & have time to be adopted… or ADOPTING a puppy from a shelter, NOT from a profiting breeder. WE DO NOT KNOW why the dogs are at a shelter… lost, neglected, abused, or stray… overbred & dumped when no longer profitable… surrendered after their owner died… WE DO KNOW that countless deserving dogs are KILLED DAILY to make space for more intakes in overcrowded shelters before having a loving home. Dogs are the most SELFLESS creatures on the earth that devote their lives to humans they love & CHANGE YOUR LIFE for the better. Lola, Lucy & Joy taught us that… & we know these dogs could do the same for someone IF JUST GIVEN A CHANCE.

Meet Bunny! Don't let such a sweet name blind you to the fact that Bunny wants a job!

Bunny is a 1.5-2 year old German Shepherd who was rescued by Curls 2 The Rescue. Bunny shows potential in being a scent detection working dog candidate. She is highly motivated for her ball and is laser focused when it's time to find it!

Bunny is very social and interacts well with other dogs (all sizes) & people (men, women, children). She is up to date on vaccinations, spayed and heart worm negative. More details are available upon request for serious adopters.

ABOUT US (Outside of Rescue):
Before we dive into why we started volunteering in animal rescue & sharing posts of our rescue adventures together… A LITTLE MORE ABOUT US! We met in a hip hop dance class & with so many things in common we instantly connected… we both grew up trained dancers, both have curly hair (I know RARE!), love the color purple, love for fitness/health/dance, both are married & mothers, went to college in San Diego (the list goes on & every day we discover something else in common!….), & of course, we love our dogs & ALL DOGS! The more we got to know each other it was like we were woven from the same cloth, soul sisters. We’ve been friends for years in our family in class & out at social soiree’s before we teamed up for rescue volunteer efforts. We were both actually helping in animal rescue separately before we realized how much MORE of a difference we could make in joining our skillsets & synonymous passion together. But most importantly, we show up for each other when it counts the most; a lifeline during the most difficult times, which for us, was LOSING OUR SOUL DOGS… Lola, Lucy & Joy. ♥️🐶🌈🪽∞

WHO ARE WE?
We’re just 2 curly-haired women that love dogs & want to save them all. In addition to both having curly hair, we have so many things in common: from a background in dance & the love of the color purple, to baking & creating crafts, but our passion for helping in the rescue community is the common bond that has now become our collective mission.

“Curls 2 the Rescue” is NOT an organization or a business, it is a name we gave ourselves since we volunteer TOGETHER for Animal Rescues, helping with transport, fostering, obedience training, dog adoption events, administrative support, creating social media content & networking among rescue organizations. Some of our most special experiences have been rescuing dogs from the shelter ourselves moments before their final Euthanasia deadlines!

OUR MISSION:
Our mission is to help save dogs from unnecessary and preventable Euthanasia that looms over those that end up in overcrowded animal shelters, & to create awareness of the current stray/shelter crisis across the country.

Most people have no idea how dire the animal shelter crisis has become, resulting in countless innocent & deserving animals losing their lives on a daily basis & at no fault of their own, just for kennel space. Why? Dogs are being killed to make room for new ones entering the shelter because more dogs are coming in than out.

OUR HOPE:
We hope that by sharing our experiences about helping in animal rescue, others will be inspired to join us in being a voice for the voiceless. They need us NOW more than ever! Get involved… Please ADOPT… FOSTER… DONATE… VOLUNTEER… SPREAD THE WORD! Even just sharing a dog pending Euthanasia could literally save a life!

Thank you for following 🙏🐾 💜
