Here is video with Bruce, Steve, Thor, Tony and Nat. Watching the interaction between myself and the puppies I'll express some temperaments and personalities I noted. All our puppies were tested and scored separately however we thought it would be fun to record them together playing so families can see some differences in personalities and temperaments.
When we talk about human assertiveness we watch to see which puppies approach the human without regard to personal space, jumps on human, licks human, approaches human with authority and those puppies we would score as highly assertive. I saw this from Tony, Bruce and Steve. A mildly assertive puppy would approach more politely, challenging the human's space until they become comfortable. Ms. Nat I would score as mildly assertive. Thor did not come across as assertive. We saw him stay back and observe his littermates and not really join in until I began moving. Thor needed more coaxing and more adjustment time.
Human Focus is another temperament trait we score. In this group, I score all puppies medium-high to highly human focused. Yes Steve, Bruce and Tony seem highly focused on me and what I was doing most of the time we played together. However although Nat wasn't always clinging or jumping on me, she was watching me and interested in what I was doing most of the time. Thor similar to Nat, was focused on me but he didn't necessarily want to play like his brothers, he instead wanted to lay in my lap. Thor is very similar to Peter in this respect, more of a 'snuggler' and a calmer attitude, more low to medium energy level.
Energy level is something we look at. By watching the video, again I'd score Tony, Steve and Bruce together scoring them as high energy. Nat had energy but not to the extent of her excitable enthusiastic brothers. She was more medium or medium high. And Thor was already mentioned as low to medium energy level.
What about prey drive? Honestly none of these pups truly focused on the toys or 'p
T'Challa - The Apricot color with white spot on head
- Assertive puppy, quickly invading my space (no regard for personal bubble!)
- High Energy: licking, jumping, wagging his tail
- T'Challa and Tony have very similar personalities! Both remind me of the stereotypical family dog. They are big and loud and have a "larger than life" attitude. They romp around and trip over their large paws. The clutzy, go-lucky big oafs that are friends with everybody! Both were the first ones to escape the puppy pen. Both are extremely excited to see me. They have the attitude of "what's next?" And "you want to play fetch? OK let's play!" And "oh snuggle time? Awesome let's do it!" They enjoy everything! These guys will be stoked when their human comes home but also likely to drag the toilet paper through the house π
Bucky - The Cream with white boot paws
- Somewhat assertive but after acknowledging me he went to do his own thing, explore and look for toys. Bucky is noticeable in most of the video that he is completely content to entertain himself and play with toys. Bucky has a high prey drive and will greatly appreciate numerous puppy toys under the Christmas tree! For families interested in Bucky be mindful of keeping a close eye on him when outside as his high prey drive may mean he is likely to take off as a nearby squirrel!
Peter - The Curly Apricot with white boot paws
- Less assertive puppy, less confident. Peter did come up to me and wanted lovings like his littermates but you can see from his demeanor he is less sure of himself. His tail wags less and he is hesitant in his approach. Peter planted himself in my lap and was content to stay there. Peter can be seen leaning into me and periodically looking up at me face. He seeks human attention however Peter appears to want cuddles and reassurance all is well, whereas Clint and T'Challa seek human interaction to play with them and have "what's next" attitude. Peter would be a "cuddler" but also when relaxed will play and
At 6 weeks of age we began crate training with our puppies. Puppies typically are put to bed around 8pm and we cover the crate to keep away distractions, play Mozart music for puppies, turn off the lights and keep room quiet. Sometimes puppies need to be let out of their crate in the middle of the night for a potty break (we use the litterbox nearby) and then puppies wake early in the morning ready to get out for potty time and to play. Our hope is our puppies will be set up with a routine that will help them with a smooth transition to their homes with their families in a couple weeks! In regards to litterbox training, we use Alfalfa pellets and Timothy Grass. This is safe for puppies if ingested (like eating grass) and smells like grass so puppies are familiar with thr grass scent and associate the smell with going potty.
