Second Chance Livestock Finding wayward horses private homes before auction directly from the dealers pen ❤️

(2)

Second Chance Livestock is Located in Belfast NY! The horses we advertise are owned by a dealer who has purchased them from auction or privately and our mission is to get as many of them into homes before they are returned to the horrid auction pipeline where they will either remain until their demise or will fall into the hands of others and will be shipped to the unknown. We work tirelessly to p

rovide the best care for these horses while with us and do our best to represent them honestly and find them new placement ultimately and likely saving their lives and stopping them from enduring endless suffering. The horses we post are often horses that are in need of "step down jobs" and may be older or not able to preform like the could in their younger years but are still wonderful and able to do lower level jobs like pleasure riding or driving or just providing companionship. Some are diamonds in the rough that have fallen through the cracks and with a little TLC become the beautiful animal they were meant to be. All Horses are sold on an "AS IS" basis! We will be as honest as possible and try to show you all the details about every horse but we only know as much as we can see or are told by the previous owner (assuming that was a truth). We do not place any guarantees on any of these horses! What to do if you see a horse you would like to pull:
1. Via messaging the page or giving us a call or text! (please be mindful that we have other jobs and tons of horses to care for so if we don't get right back to you we will as soon as we can!)
2. We accept multiple forms of payment and can send or request and invoice.
3. Set up hauling, pick up time, Quarantine ect to ensure we get your new love out of here and into a safe place as soon as possible! We will accept a $200 dollar non refundable deposit to hold the horse of your choice for 48 hours until full payment is required. All horses are available on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE basis! We want all of these horses to get homes and out of the pen as soon as they possibly can. It is better for the horse and for us as we can then focus on the next horse. "Safe" horses must be picked up within 2 days. If they cannot be picked up by then board will be charged at $20 dollars a day. (Again it is much better for the horses to leave asap as the pen can be a stressful ever changing place for them)

SECOND CHANCE LIVESTOCK STRONGLY RECCOMENDS A FULL 30 DAY QUARANTNE BEFORE INTRODUCING YOUR NEW HORSE TO YOUR HERD!!!!! All second Chance Livestock horses are purchased through auctions and private homes and are often housed together and could possibly be exposed to a number of illnesses. (Think of it like children in a school!)
• Quarantine period: Isolate new horses from other horses for at least 30 days.
• Separate equipment: Use separate equipment, such as buckets, grooming tools, and pitchforks, for the new horse. Mark the new horse's equipment as needed.

• Monitor for illness: Check the horse's temperature, pulse, and respiration rate daily. Take Temperatures a normal Horse temp is 99

• Prevent contact: Keep the quarantined horse away from other horses and people. Wash your hands after handling the horse.

• Exercise: Horses should be turned out in their own personal turn out AWAY from your horses regular turnout

• Disinfect: Thoroughly disinfect anything the horse touches.

• Observe closely: Pay close attention to the horse during quarantine to catch and address any potential issues early. Monitor feed/water intake and manure/urine out put. Monitor personality are they bight and alert or sad and quiet?

• Continue monitoring: After moving the horse to the general population, continue to monitor it for signs of disease for several days

We do NOT provide Quarantine here are Second Chance Livestock. We have too many horses in and out and lack the man power/space to provide proper 30 day quarantine. We do however have a list available of Haulers and Quarantine farms listed below!

BLOSSOM STILL NEEDS A HOME🆘
Vivian is SAFE🎉
Thursday is fast approaching.
Both of these girls have gained a lot of attention in the past few days, but for different reasons. Vivian is the mule that EVERYONE wants, while Blossom is the draft mare that everyone pities. They both share a common misfortune: they are both without homes. The thought of these girls being shipped off to a sale really bothers me. Life isn’t always fair, but we can try to be. Can we please get these girls into homes as soon as possible? Time is slowly running out.

Two horses have been added to load 12.
These mares are PROJECTS and both mid to late teens. They did NOT handle well, so they were not fully evaluated. They need ground work and to be taught manners. We did not ride them and have no further info. They lead and they load. They are AFFORDABLE. A fun gamble for those balling on a budget!

Load 12 💥
Deadline is THURSDAY 3-27-25🆘
Horses are AS-IS❗️❗️❗️

🌟🌟🌟SAFE🌟🌟🌟Bernice – 20-year-old Pony Mare that rides and drives.13.2 hands. She rode excellently for our rider during the evaluation. She is safe and sensible. She does have a motor if asked, but she would be fine for an advanced beginner. 650

Fast Line Firefly – 2014 model Standardbred gelding, bred in Canada. 15.2 hands. He has been driving for a living and needs to find a second career. He was great during our riding evaluation and improved with each step. He could easily be a trail horse in the spring. He is a little off in the hind end. Gentle and agreeable. A super nice gelding! 900

Greg – 25-year-old (+\-)Standardbred gelding. 14 hands. When we figure out who he is, we will post more details. He is old enough to have a lip tattoo. For those who aren’t familiar, Standardbreds used to be lip-tattooed before the freeze brand was implemented. He is in need of a soft landing and a nice retirement home. He may be suitable for pony rides or unmounted work. 675

⭐️⭐️SAFE⭐️⭐️Cowboy – 20+ year-old Grade QH-type gelding. 14.3 hands. Super sweet and safe. He is nice to ride and a pleasure to be around. He has limited vision and could use some maintenance to continue his riding career. He would be a cute kids’ horse after some TLC. Let’s find him a soft, easy place to land. 650

Blossom – 18 year-old Percheron Mare, 16.3 hands. Blossom is a diamond in the rough. She came from a home that didn’t take good care of her. She drives and has been raising babies. Due to her condition, we didn’t think it was appropriate to ride her. She has lice, a bad tooth, a growth on her nose, and needs some weight. However, she trotted off very nicely in hand. We believe that with some TLC, she could make someone an excellent horse that could go in any direction. 760

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/9hOO48jwybw

⭐️⭐️SAFE⭐️⭐️Sara Lee – Late twenties (+/-) branded paint mare. 14.2 hands. This mare needs a rehab home. Her original owner became ill and ended up in the hospital. Since then, this mare has been through different auctions and another bailout. The hustle of all this has been hard on her frail body. She needs a soft landing – and quickly. She is hungry and in poor condition. We will feed her the best we can while she’s here, but she desperately needs to get out and into a permanent home. 400

⭐️⭐️SAFE⭐️⭐️Vivian – 20+ year-old Molly Mule. 16.2 hands. Vivian is my favorite this week. She is sweet, gentle, and easy to handle. You can even touch her ears! She rides and drives. She is the definition of more Whoa than Go. She is one of my favorite mules! Vivian is like a big dog and needs to go to a home that loves her as much as I do. 850
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/PXE_NXBifhE

🟩HOME PENDING🟩Nancy – 16-year-old Belgian Mare. 16.3 hands She does it all—rides, drives, and has raised some babies too. We decided to ride her outside today, as it was too tight in the pen for her. She was great around the dogs and the chaos of the farm today. I think she could really go in any direction and have a plethora of second careers. A really nice mare! 1400

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/4Vc6QYcct9M

Via Veneto– 2013model Standardbred Ridgling (one testicle is stuck in the abdomen, also known as cryptorchidism). 15.1 hands. We are not sure if that is still the case, as he doesn’t act like a ridgling whatsoever. However, that's how he’s marked, so that’s how we’ll refer to him. He’s been driving for a living but rides nicely too. I was very impressed with his calm demeanor and willing attitude. He has been turned out with mares and geldings with no issue. A super sweet horse, deserving of a second career. 950

Hi everyone, I am going to be blunt about the current situation so no one is surprised when next Thursday rolls around. Honesty has always been my best policy and while some don’t always agree with it. It is what it is.
3 horses still need to be placed this week. Goose has a pending home and is also turned out with my personal horses so he’s not such a pressing matter.
But the other 3 need to be placed asap.

With mud season upon us we had to pull horses from some pastures and consolidate fields (the pastures are too muddy to consciously use. I will not have horses standing in knee deep mud) this means the pen will often run at max capacity. Right now it is FULL. We have 10+ horses to list for next and next week is the short week of the month. Any remaining horse will leave for auction on Thursday (3/27) afternoon.

We will be doing evaluations Friday morning and have all the horses posted by Friday evening so they have some extra time!

Please help us network these horses and get them homes. Especially the 3 remaining ones (Regina, Chester and the apha mare) they need out of the chaos and into homes that will appreciate them!

We will probably run like this until things start to dry out and I can shuffle horses around again.

Please remember if you see a horse you would like to help please do not wait until the last second to save that life!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟CHESTER IS SAFE!! He will be headed to his new 🏠 shortly!!!! THANK YOU everyone!!!!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is probably Chester’s last chance at getting lucky in life. He is the last one left from the previous week (Hazel was placed) Chester has been here going on 3 weeks now with little to no interest. Chester is a reserved gentleman who has worked his whole life and sports the evidence of his work ethic. Despite his rather large joints he is surprisingly sound. Chester drives like the perfect gentleman but is to nervous for us to try to get on. With some decompression time and handling this may change for him. Chester is out of time and options. Does anyone have a safe landing for this old boy? He is so proud.

Deadline: 3/22

Original post:

Chester -18 year crossbred gelding 15.1 hands- He is a sweet guy. Has been driven extensively. He has some very large calcified fetlocks. Also calcification on the right hind hock. Lived in a tie stall for a long time. Could easily be started under saddle. Would be a lovely spring trail horse after a few rides! Fee is 875

🌟🌟🌟🌟SAFE🌟🌟🌟🌟

Driftbar Copper Lena is a 1999 model APHA mare who has recently come to us straight from the farm. I wish I had a more exciting story to tell you, but I don’t. She’s spent the past several years pounding pavement as a driving horse. As of last week, she was let go from her job, and now she’s with us. Carrie and I were quite surprised when we were told she was a registered Paint, as her “everyday clothes” closely resemble those of the Standardbreds we see each week. But here she is.

She rides well. At some point, she had a gentler job as someone’s riding horse. I’m sure she was someone’s gem back then- bred well and pretty. During her evaluation she rode off like an old pro. Although stoic, she was sensible and willing. She traveled well for us, and we believe she has plenty of life left in her. Let’s give her a more dignified last few years—she has absolutely earned it.

Original Ad: Driftbar Copper Lena- 1999 Model APHA mare- This mare is the jack of all trades! She has been an Amish buggy horse for the past several years. She rides very well too! She came right off the Amish farm this morning. Although she is older, she still has plenty of life left in her. Fee is 775

🌟🌟🌟🌟REGINA IS SAFE AND HEADED 🏠!!!❤️🌟🌟🌟🌟

Meet Regina!

Regina was my (Terry) trail horse last week. Let me preface this by saying—I am the pickiest person to trail ride with. As a former trail guide, I can confirm that I’m a trail guide’s worst nightmare. I want a horse with enough “go” to entertain me and enough “whoa” to let me scroll on my phone. I am the terror of the trails. Carrie eventually convinced me to take the ride, and I’m so happy I did. Poor Regina had to deal with my videos, pictures, live streams, and calls. She was perfect. She was sensible but would pick up speed if I asked. Occasionally, she reminded me that she was a mare with an opinion—calling to her boyfriends from the road and pinning her ears if someone got too close. We passed cars, trucks, buggies and loose dogs, and she didn’t bat an eye. She is my dream trail horse. I was reminded that horses can be fun again. She let me experience a bliss I haven’t felt in a while, and for that, I owe it to her to find her a loving home.

Original ad: Regina- 20 year old. 14.3 hands This mare was here previously. The previous bailer’s gelding began to act like a stud, so they decided Regina needed to go. I will selfishly say I am glad she is here. She was the horse that I rode on the trail today. She was excellent! Anyone that knows me knows that I want THE most vanilla horses on the trail. I don’t care for hot horses, as that was all I had to ride in my childhood. Regina is my pick of the week. She was slow, steady, and brave. She was unphased by all of the cars, the loose dog (seen on the live), and patiently dealt with my several phone calls, videos, and live streams. During her updated riding eval- she walked, jogged, and loped like a retired Western Pleasure horse. She does need some maintenance to continue a steady riding career, but most good horses do. She is stellar. Fee is 975
