Second Chance Livestock formerly "NY LAST CHANCE HORSE BAIL OUT" Second Chance Livestock is Located in Belfast NY! All Horses are sold on an "AS IS" basis! Contact us! Arrange Payment.

The horses we advertise are owned by a dealer who has purchased them from auction or privately and our mission is to get as many of them into homes before they are returned to the horrid auction pipeline where they will either remain until their demise or will fall into the hands of others and will be shipped to the unknown. We work tirelessly to provide the best care for these horses while with u

s and do our best to represent them honestly and find them new placement ultimately and likely saving their lives and stopping them from enduring endless suffering. The horses we post are often horses that are in need of "step down jobs" and may be older or not able to preform like the could in their younger years but are still wonderful and able to do lower level jobs like pleasure riding or driving or just providing companionship. Some are diamonds in the rough that have fallen through the cracks and with a little TLC become the beautiful animal they were meant to be. We will be as honest as possible and try to show you all the details about every horse but we only know as much as we can see or are told by the previous owner (assuming that was a truth). We do not place any guarantees on any of these horses! What to do if you see a horse you would like to pull:
1. Via messaging the page or giving us a call or text! (please be mindful that we have other jobs and tons of horses to care for so if we don't get right back to you we will as soon as we can!)
2. We accept multiple forms of payment and can send or request and invoice.
3. Set up hauling, pick up time, Quarantine ect to ensure we get your new love out of here and into a safe place as soon as possible! We will accept a $200 dollar non refundable deposit to hold the horse of your choice for 48 hours until full payment is required. All horses are available on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE basis! We want all of these horses to get homes and out of the pen as soon as they possibly can. It is better for the horse and for us as we can then focus on the next horse. "Safe" horses must be picked up within 2 days. If they cannot be picked up by then board will be charged at $20 dollars a day. (Again it is much better for the horses to leave asap as the pen can be a stressful ever changing place for them)

SECOND CHANCE LIVESTOCK STRONGLY RECCOMENDS A FULL 30 DAY QUARANTNE BEFORE INTRODUCING YOUR NEW HORSE TO YOUR HERD!!!!! All second Chance Livestock horses are purchased through auctions and private homes and are often housed together and could possibly be exposed to a number of illnesses. (Think of it like children in a school!)
• Quarantine period: Isolate new horses from other horses for at least 30 days.
• Separate equipment: Use separate equipment, such as buckets, grooming tools, and pitchforks, for the new horse. Mark the new horse's equipment as needed.

• Monitor for illness: Check the horse's temperature, pulse, and respiration rate daily. Take Temperatures a normal Horse temp is 99

• Prevent contact: Keep the quarantined horse away from other horses and people. Wash your hands after handling the horse.

• Exercise: Horses should be turned out in their own personal turn out AWAY from your horses regular turnout

• Disinfect: Thoroughly disinfect anything the horse touches.

• Observe closely: Pay close attention to the horse during quarantine to catch and address any potential issues early. Monitor feed/water intake and manure/urine out put. Monitor personality are they bight and alert or sad and quiet?

• Continue monitoring: After moving the horse to the general population, continue to monitor it for signs of disease for several days

We do NOT provide Quarantine here are Second Chance Livestock. We have too many horses in and out and lack the man power/space to provide proper 30 day quarantine. We do however have a list available of Haulers and Quarantine farms listed below!

Deadline is THURSDAY 2-27-24 at noon❗️❗️❗️
Horses are AS-IS🛑

Bentley- 15 year old Fresian/ Standardbred Cross Gelding.16 hands. Bentley is my (Terry) favorite of the week. He has been driven more than he has been ridden, but he is an absolute pleasure of a horse. He did not make any mistakes and would easily make a stellar riding horse. We think he could excel in any second career. Fee is 900.

https://youtu.be/C10MVGhbyWQ?si=gSTR7uA41Pas0loc

Marc- 20+ year old Haflinger gelding. 14 hands Marc is a saint of a horse. He had a tough life working for the Amish and is now seeking a softer landing. He was rather uncomfortable during his evaluation today so we did not think it was appropriate to ride him. His hooves need some TLC as well - please see his video. He is dog gentle and is the kindest horse we’ve had in a while. Fee is 800.

https://youtu.be/U-RP_e6av18?si=2krhgzBhbHQSJQG8

🟢PENDING 🟢Nora- late teens/ early 20s pony Mare- 13 hands Nora is a super pretty pony mare with one blue eye. We think she’s been sitting for a little bit but rode right off just fine. She could easily go back to work with no issue, just needs a refresher. She’s got a good education. Fee is 850

https://youtu.be/y_-W2vWM7mQ?si=bz0xGrw0JitcM1mK

Taylor- 7 year old Morab mare- 14.2 Taylor was said to have been a career broodmare. This mare was sweet and gentle during her evaluation. She has an old eyelid laceration that healed kind of funky but does not affect her eye or need care and is in need of some body work for her hips. She was back sore so we decided not to ride her. After some TLC, She could start a new career. Fee is 800.
https://youtu.be/lZglOm7ibFU?si=UoYUbzxgW3XW5n29

Homer- homebred Standardbred gelding. 15.3 Homer is a driving machine! He has some rot/sores from his driving tack so we didn’t think it was appropriate to ride him. However, if the weather cooperates this week we will get a driving video! Fee is 875

https://youtu.be/ZSL32B0ryv8?si=wdIlsj3v3Q7GYd1D

Ellie- 20+ year old draft cross mare. 15.2 Ellie is a husband safe horse. She is the definition of more woah than go. She rode in the pen and outside just fine. She has very little interest in going faster than a walk. With some encouragement she will move out. Her motto is slow and steady wins the race. She is the horse that everyone asks her about. Fee is 1250

Peas is the kindest, gentlest mare you will ever meet in a plain bay wrapper. She is easy to catch, lead, groom… really to do anything with. She never gets frazzled, she doesn’t spook. She’s just there watching the world go by one day at a time. Peas started her life as a race horse but didn’t really have the knack for that and then became a trusted buggy horse for probably the last 20 or so years. As peas aged she became too slow to make those long trips and during the hardest winter we have had in a while was sold. Peas sustained an injury from another horse to her spine above her pelvis which makes heavy weight on her back uncomfortable. She would be fine for small children pony rides but nothing more and I bet she is the easiest horse to drive. She is gentle enough for a therapy program where students are learning to groom and properly handle horses or for the small ones who want a trust worthy soul to lead around and groom and love on and take for little pony rides. The person wanting to learn to drive but is nervous about it …. Peas would be your girl. Or, for that home that is just looking for that wonderful, super kind, easy to care for, doesnt need anything extra companion for their other horse….peas would be your girl. Peas is what I would call a Mexican meat horse. She’s not big enough to go to Canada and sadly she would most likely only have a one way ticket out of an auction. Who would pick her and her plain bay shaggy wrapper out of the crowd to buy. We cannot let Peas go to auction. She is just too much of a doll. She spends her days out with her best pal Mandabra who is bailed and has connections working on his placement because he has history and won people money. But what about Peas……. Does anyone have a soft landing for the sweet old lady?

🌟🌟🌟Barney is SAFE!!! He has found a wonderful home!!🌟🌟🌟

Is anyone looking for a fun husband horse?

Barney fits the bill! He’s an aged Belgian gelding who stands about 16.1 hands tall. You name it, he’s probably done it. He was ridden extensively by Amish children in his previous home. He’s willing and can move out if you ask him! He is blind in one eye, but that’s the only thing we can fault him for. He really wowed us during his evaluation. I think he’d be a fun horse for the whole family. Let’s get him placed!

I was able to get some better pictures and video of the two belgains that need immediate pull from our pen.
This is a yearling Belgian I think Gelding honestly I didn’t even check yet. He needs immediate pull and care. He appears to have some sort of stifle injury.

Devil’s Cut Draft Rescue has offered to get him care and figure out what is best for him but they also so graciously took in Rhonda’s c**t from the first or second load if you remember him. He had a similar injury and drained the funds they raised so they will need help again. I cannot directly tag them but would people be willing to donate to get him there? If so I will have her start a post and I will share it on here.

Private pulls are also welcome.

He is also 450

I was able to get some better pictures and video of the two belgains that need immediate pull from our pen.
This is a 9yr old Belgian Mare (I didn’t believe the person when they said 9 but I looked in her mouth this morning and sure enough) shes about 16.3 hh she is easy to handle but grumpy and rightfully so. She appears to be foundered in both front feet. I would guess with some care it may be rehabbable but she needs major TLC. The video is right before her next dose of banamine to help her feel more comfortable. We are trying to find her placement at cost of what we paid @ 450. This girl could have a whole life ahead of her with the right home.

Video in comments. I can’t add it directly to the post 🙄

Rescue taking the c**t needs donation help for care! Please see his post!

🆘🆘🆘SOS!! A Belgian Mare and c**t arrived in our pen today! They are NOT related and came from two different locations but they both need major help! The mare has multiple issues going on and barely gets around. She did receive banamine tonight. I am guessing she previously foundered or has wobblers. The c**t is almost non weight bearing on his right hind leg! He has also received banamine. It is so sad to watch the two of them. The weather here is horrendous and our electric is out 😭😭 I did the best I could picture wise to get the word out tonight! They need placement and help ASAP! I don’t even have room to get the c**t in my barn nor do I think he could make it across the ice! They are both 450 (each) to get them out of here! Can anyone help?🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘 posting video of them in comments!!!

UPDATE: He is SAFE 🥳🥳🥳 Thank you everyone!
Be sure to follow and support Misfit Farm!

Misfit Farm has graciously offered to provide Darwin a home if fee assistance can be provided! ALSO, the dealer has offered to match the fee assistance amounts❗️❗️❗️

HELP Darwin❗️

Darwin is only 6 years old and a mostly blind crossbred gelding. We believe he has some vision in his left eye, as he was aware of his surroundings while we led him around the farm. Before life took his vision, he drove extensively and was important to someone—it’s clear he was loved. He actively seeks our attention.

However, he’s struggling with his new accommodations. The pen is chaotic, and he’s becoming overwhelmed. Can we blame him? As we’ve said, the pen is no place for a blind horse. PLEASE, let’s hustle and work together to get him out!

Horses are AS-IS❗️

Standardbred mare - Wee Peas and Qs, registered Standardbred Mare, 14.2 hands tall 2002 Model. This mare has been raising babies and driving for the past several years. She did let Terry get on, but she could not comfortably hold a rider so we did not continue. She is suitable for a companion type home. She is extremely sweet. She has an old kick injury above her tail( highlighted in the video). Her fee is 725.

🌟🌟🌟Mandabra is safe and looking for approves placement🌟🌟🌟
Standardbred gelding - “Mandabra” 2006 Model, 14.3 hands tall $ 359,052 lte. This gelding had a very successful career on the track and is very well bred. He has had a hard life and could use some TLC. He was agreeable during our riding evaluation. We think he deserves a soft landing after his impressive career. He has been freezefired and has a fresher kick on his back leg (see video). His Fee is 775

⭐️⭐️SAFE⭐️⭐️Darwin— Blind Crossbred gelding, 6 hears old, 15.3 hands tall. He has some vision, but very slight. We did not ride him today, as he was very nervous in the pen. He was driven extensively, we will try to get a video if the weather cooperates this week. He was very personable and sweet during his evaluation. He was our favorite this week. He needs someone to give him a fair chance at life because he hasn’t had one. Fee is 800

https://youtu.be/P8HjTnOa4DE?si=qeuzYnGjvpxm7RSD

Kandee- Standardbred Cross mare, 15 years old, 16 hands tall. She has been raising babies and driving. She was green for riding, but was not malicious. We think with some education she’d be a nice riding horse. Fee is 930

https://youtu.be/Fj7huyZvNqE?feature=shared

⭐️⭐️⭐️SAFE⭐️⭐️⭐️Champ- 18 year old 14.3 hands tall Morgan gelding. Champ has ridden and driven. He was loved by his previous family. The Amish owner had nothing but glowing things to say about him. He had too many horses so Champ needed to go. He rides very well and was super agreeable. He would make an excellent addition to any barn or program. He is absolutely a diamond in the rough. Fee is 950

🌟🌟🌟🌟SAFE🌟🌟🌟Barney- Aged Belgian gelding that is blind in his left eye; 16.1 hands tall. Barney is a husband horse deluxe! Terry called him a moving couch. He rode off lovely. Don’t let his age fool you, he is full of life. He is fresh off the Amish farm. He is broke to work and ride. He has been ridden by the Amish children as well. If he wasn’t blind in his left eye he would be a high dollar horse. Fee is 1060

While we have a lull in sharing these beautiful beasts, I want to take a second to introduce ourselves and explain what our mission is as there seems to be a lot of new comers and old followers who would like to know!

The page Second Chance Livestock is now run by the dealers girlfriend (Carrie) and her good friend Terry (who's voice you will hear most often).
Carrie lives on the dealers farm and is solely responsible for the care of the horses every day as well as her own personal 11 horses. She was a Vet Tech for 13 years prior to moving to upstate NY and has been in the equine industry for an upwards of 20 years, growing up showing Quarter Horses and Hunters. She has also managed a boarding stable for a number of years. In her free time (haha whats that!) she enjoys breaking and training youngsters and showing.

Terry has been in the equine industry for an upwards of 15 years and is a saddle extraordinaire. Terry showed IHSA in college and has worked in many barns around the state. In his spare time he enjoys caring for his horses and is also an avid dog rescuer.

Second Chance Livestock is run directly from the dealers pen located in Belfast NY.

Our goal is to find at risk equines homes with the general public before they enter or return to the auction pipeline. These are often horses that are older, looking for career changes, or have fallen through the cracks of the equine industry. Often these horses will enter the pipeline and get passed from place to place, auction to auction until they either somehow get pulled out or meet their demise. Our horses often have one week to find placement before they move on to the next auction.

We thank everyone for the support we have received already this year. To date we have made a huge difference in 47 horses lives that may have otherwise not turned out so well.

We will be posting next weeks load tomorrow (2/14). Please like, share and comment to help us get the word out for these poor souls!

UPDATE: SAFE ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mable has found a home! ❤️

I spent some time with Miss Mable today and for the life of me I’m not sure why she is still here. She must have the plain bay horse plague which causes people to pass by without a second glance because she is not as pretty as the rest. I unblanketed her today. Climbed aboard from a frozen round bale while she stood completely still patiently waiting for me to be well seated and off we went. She rides like a dream. She’s not spooky, no funny business, she’s the perfect mix of quiet but still willing to move out. The field is frozen, lumpy and icey in spots so it wasn’t ideal but it’s the best we have now with all the ice. She never made a single wrong move. If I had a spot for her in my personal herd I would keep her in a heart beat as a guest/husband horse. Doesn’t anyone have a spot for this amazing girl? We have an offer with misfit rescue but we have not reached even close to her fee to help them out. She is running out of time and options! What do we do?!

I have added her riding videos from today in the comments!

Overlooked and Underappreciated.

Not too long ago, these two were someone’s pets. They were spoiled, loved, and doted on. Although rusty, you can tell someone cared enough to give them an education. Now, they are just two gaited horses being ignored while in our pen.

They have until Thursday. Let’s hope our community works in their favor and grants them both a second chance!
