Since Valentines Day is right around the corner, it's a good time to remind you..... SKUNK BREEDING SEASON IS HERE!!!
So that means it's time for our annual PSA!

Breeding season means lots of frisky skunks are running around with one thing on their mind. They won't be looking both ways before they cross the road, they will be out during the day, and they won't be worrying about using protection as they swap saliva and potentially the rabies virus!

An uptick in skunk movement means an increased potential for an encounter with your pets! Keep your cats and dogs currently vaccinated and report potential exposures to your local animal control! Let's practice safe skunk breeding season, folks!!

Shout Out to Allen Parks and Recreation for getting Nacho out of the shelter today. As the Longest resident, since 2023, he much enjoyed the time out of his kennel. They said with the smallest amount of training he will make the BEST dog partner there ever could be. He loves the doggie tennis ball and settles down quickly after play time and is a real good, hard Champion napper.
He is also Very treat motivated so those tricks will be quick and easy to learn.

We had a full house at our Collin College Volunteer orientation. Is your application in for our General public orientation coming up? Get those applications in, clear the background check and get an official invite. We could not do our jobs without the help of Volunteers.

It's National Hot Chocolate day. What a good morning to enjoy some hot chocolate. If you want some hot chocolate that'll give you kisses and love you back, how about some Debonair? He's a bundle of warmth, brown chocolaty goodness wrapped into four legs and two ears with a tail! He is still waiting for his forever home. The shelter is open until 5pm today!

Happy National Squirrel Appreciation day! On this day we recognize a critter some consider a pest and others see as just fascinating. One of our very own Animal Services officer is also a State permitted wildlife rehabilitator. This means she has taken many hours, space and money out of her own pocket to rescue and hopefully re-release wildlife back to the wild.
If this is something you are interested in or may just want to learn more about how you can help our wildlife friends, consider taking classes on how to help our furry wild neighbors.

Allen animal shelter will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The animals will be well taken care of and enjoy a quiet holiday as well. The shelter will reopen Tuesday at 10am.
