We're heartbroken to share that our very own Edna unexpectedly left us.

The homesteading lifestyle constantly reminds us of the rewards of hard work and the reality of nature's unpredictability. Despite our best efforts to keep all our animals safe, sometimes nature takes its own course, and certain things cannot be prevented.

Edna was a cherished part of our homestead. Though she only laid about one egg a month 😆, she always greeted us with joy.

While they may seem like a fun idea initially, once released, they can cause havoc that is not immediately visible. This is especially concerning during dry farming seasons, as a single lantern can lead to a devastating fire in a matter of seconds, all for a brief moment of entertainment or an Instagram video. It's crucial to consider the long-term consequences and opt for alternatives that don't harm nature.

Alternative options:
Plant a tree/flowers
Release butterflies
Fly kites
Bubbles
Stone painting
Biodegradable “Confetti” or Seed Bombs

Yikes!

Got our morning chores taken care of today & our chickens run repaired. Hopefully these reports are just being overly cautious, but nevertheless. Stay prepared!

Hopefully the warmer temps will help my ongoing battle with my sourdough starter ;)

There are TWO distinct severe risks with different timings & hazards.

Threat 1.
Tonight for southern and eastern lower Michigan, there is a threat for elevated storms to produce large hail. This will happen overnight between midnight and 7am. No tornado or wind risk is expected with this first round.

Threat 2.
This is the one we are watching very closely. This is for all of southern and central Michigan. All hazards are possible with this threat, including tornadoes. Timing on this will be Tuesday NIGHT, with initial thinking on timing after 6-7pm. This does have potential to be a later night threat as well. Many moving factors with this threat and some uncertainty still exists. We will discuss more on our live stream tonight.
