It’s tempting to just turn our horses out as a reward the day after a competition, but turnout alone doesn't help them recover. 🦄

When we compete on the weekend and especially when combined with long hauls to our destinations, we should be sure to get our horses moving with some GENTLE exercise the next day.

This will help reduce lactic acid build up, drive blood flow to tired or sore muscles, help with lymphatic drainage, and loosen tight fascia, all things that can help prevent injury.

Turnout alone is not the equivalent of gentle biomechanical exercise. If a horse is sore and moving in compensation, being in turnout will only reinforce that compensation pattern.

Do something different like head down the trail, or do in-hand work to reinforce range of motion and gentle stretching, then let them have Tuesday off instead!

Welcome Izzy!
Welcome Izzy!

Officially welcoming Izzy to the Silver Sands Performance Horses family! Izzy is one of our new lesson/IHSA horses. She’s an absolute sweetheart. She has been with us for 2 weeks now and is going to be an amazing addition to our farm! 🩷🩷

We are starting a band! Jack says he will play the guitar! 🎵

When you don’t want to get off the horse, it works to just ignore mom... I think his first “real” ride was just too much fun!!!

Kennedy 🌟 and MSU Crocodile Rock 🐊 (Rocky) getting a good ride in today! Just had to share the cuteness! 😍

Learning to post and steer is not as easy as it looks. Kennedy is learning so fast!!! 💕

Yay another one started his first ride under saddle!!! River is my moms horse so we are very excited to get him going! He handled his first ride like a champ!!

We thought the rubber chicken would be fun for Sheldon... he’s not so sure. 😂

Not every day you get a new baby into training and you decide to get on him the very first day! (Maybe I’m just crazy!) It makes the world of difference when they have an owner such as Pam who spends hours and hours prepping this young boy to make sure not one step is missed. This was the first time someone has sat on his back. The next 30 days with this one will be fun! 🐴💕 (he’s an MSU bred horse too! 😉)
