Presenting: Scenthound Allentown's January Dogs of the Month! 🐾

For the month of January, we have compiled a list of a few of our favorite pups we saw this month.

Starting off with Finn, a medium-sized mixed breed. Finn is an athletic boy who disregards the ramp entirely and jumps straight into the tub. He is very well-behaved for all his services and an absolute joy to end the day with.

Next, we have nominated Bentley, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Bentley is an older pup that loves getting groomed. He came to see us for the first time this month and we can’t wait to continue to build a bond with him.

Following Bentley, we have a pair – Baxter and Marina, the Chiweenies. They have been in every month since we opened and have big personalities. Baxter is so excited that he wiggles uncontrollably, while Marina is more cool, calm and collected. Marina is so sweet she will demand pets by nudging your hand. Baxter was scared of the blow dryer at first, but over the last few months he has improved a lot! They both are great for all services, we love seeing them so regularly!

Next up is Digby, the English Bulldog. Normally bulldogs can be a bit stubborn when it comes to grooming, but Digby is very easy-going for all services. She moans with pleasure when getting her ears cleaned! She is missing most of her teeth, and has the most adorable underbite.

Last, but not least, we have Benz, the French Bulldog. Benz is a little nervous when he arrives but he warms up to us quickly. Sometimes he needs reassurance from a second person to get his nails done, but we don’t mind since he is so sweet. He loves to give kisses and his snorts are so cute!

Feeling overwhelmed with your pup’s routine hygiene care? 🐾

We’ve got you covered! Here’s a quick guide to the essential hygiene practices every pup needs:

✨ Regular Bathing
Your dog’s coat needs regular care, not just when their springtime shedding occurs or in the fall when their winter coat comes in. Maintaining a regular brushing and bathing schedule based on your dog’s breed means you’ll be taking care of an important part of your dog’s health.

✨ Ear Cleaning
Gather your tools before getting started. A good-quality dog ear cleaner is recommended, and a vet or dog wellness expert can suggest the best type for your breed.

✨ Nail Trimming
If you hear the tick of pup toenails on your floors or see snags in your carpet, it’s definitely time for a trim. The general rule is to trim your pup’s nails just before they reach the floor, roughly one-eighth of an inch from the ground. How often depends on a few factors such as your dog’s age, living conditions, and activity rate.

✨ Teeth Brushing
Use dog-specific brushes and toothpaste to get the best results. Truth bomb: Just like your own teeth, (ideally) you should be brushing your dog’s teeth every day to prevent plaque and tartar buildup. If you aren’t currently brushing your dog’s teeth regularly, this may sound overwhelming so just remember: the more often, the better!

Presenting: Scenthound Allentown's December Dogs of the Month! 🐾

For the month of December, we have compiled a list of a few of our favorite pups we saw this month.

Starting off with Maya, she is a very well-behaved Siberian husky. Huskies are notorious for being very loud and dramatic when being washed or blow dried, but Maya gets through everything with grace. We thank her immensely for sparing our ears each time she comes in.

Next, we have nominated Teddy, the bichon frise. When Teddy first arrived, he was very fear-aggressive with people. But after some time, we’ve been able to get him used to working with us. Now, he allows all the staff to approach and handle him without fuss. We’re so proud of his improvement in just these last few months.

Following Teddy we have a pair – Nicholai and Pixie, the borzois. These are some of our biggest dogs, but they’re such gentle giants. They get through our services with ease and enjoy flopping down as soon as they’re done. Despite being told that they, Nicholai in particular, are sensitive to body handling, they are doing much better with being handled now. We can’t wait to see even more improvement in the future.

Next up is another pair – Mollie and Isabella, the pit bulls! They are the absolute best! Pit bulls have a rather horrible reputation, but Mollie and Isabella are some of the sweetest, most loving dogs we’ve ever had. They love everyone and are so compliant with all their services. They light up the room every time they come in. Everyone is always so happy to see them.

Last, but not least, we have Lady, another pit bull! She recently went blind, but she has adapted pretty well. She is such a sweetheart and has a calm demeanor despite occasionally being understandably anxious. We have to guide her more than other dogs due to her condition, but she handles it well and is a joy to work with.
