Thanksgiving is a time for food, family, and fun—but let’s keep it safe for our furry friends, too! With so many tempting dishes around, it's important to know which foods are pet-friendly and which are a no-go. Plus, a few tips can help your pet stay calm and comfortable during all the holiday excitement! 🍂❤️

Here’s a quick guide for a pet-safe Thanksgiving:

• Pet-Friendly Foods 🥕: Plain turkey (no seasoning), green beans, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin (not pie filling!) are safe in moderation.

• Avoid These 🚫: Turkey bones, garlic, onions, grapes, chocolate, and anything with butter, sugar, or spices are off-limits for pets.

And don’t forget to make a cozy, quiet space for pets who may feel a bit overwhelmed by all the guests. A comfy bed, a few treats, and a favorite toy can go a long way in helping them stay calm and happy!

Does your dog get a little too excited when visitors come over? Training them to stay calm can make a big difference (and keep your guests’ clothes fur-free! 😉). With a little patience and practice, you can help your pup greet guests like a pro!

Start with these simple steps:

1. Practice “Place” or “Go to Spot” – Pick a spot (like a mat or bed) and teach them to stay there. Start small, rewarding them each time they stay in their “place” while you move around the room. Once they get it, practice while you mimic guest arrivals.

2. Stay Calm and Consistent – Dogs pick up on our energy, so stay relaxed when guests arrive. Reward your dog when they stay calm, whether it’s with a treat, a belly rub, or praise. The goal is to make calm behavior their natural reaction.

3. Gradual Introductions – For dogs who get extra excited, ask your guests to ignore them for the first few minutes. This lets your dog adjust without feeling the urge to jump up or bark. Once they’re settled, let them approach calmly, rewarding any calm behavior.

Consistency is key, so keep practicing and soon your dog will be the calmest greeter in town! 🏆🐾

Today, on National Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) Awareness, Research, and Education Day, we unite to spread awareness about FIP, a serious disease impacting thousands of cats each year. FIP results from a rare mutation of feline coronavirus, often affecting young and immune-compromised cats. Symptoms can range from lethargy and fever to severe breathing issues. Tragically, FIP is often fatal, and its elusive symptoms make early diagnosis challenging.

While there’s no definitive cure yet, emerging treatments such as GS-441524 and Remdesivir show promising results, giving hope to cat parents. Raising awareness for FIP encourages funding for essential research, which could help improve early diagnosis, develop safer treatments, and extend lives. Even small steps, like ensuring clean litterboxes and minimizing stress, may help reduce coronavirus exposure in multi-cat homes.

Whether you’re a cat parent, veterinarian, or advocate, your voice matters. By sharing FIP information, you’re helping families and pets everywhere. Together, let’s honor every precious feline affected by FIP and support those working toward a cure. 💙

Protect your pup from the hidden danger of heartworms! 🐾💔 At Alpharetta Animal Hospital, we prioritize your pet's health, which is why we recommend annual heartworm testing—even if your dog is on preventive treatment.

Why Annual Testing Matters: ✨ Detects heartworm infections early when there are no visible symptoms ✨ Provides a greater chance of a successful recovery ✨ Keeps your pet on track with effective, year-round prevention

Heartworm testing involves a simple blood test that checks for proteins released by adult heartworms. Early detection is key, as heartworm disease often goes unnoticed in its early stages, making regular testing essential.

Keep your pet protected for life—schedule a heartworm test today! 📞 Call us at (770) 475-7613 to book an appointment or click here to learn more:

Think you know everything about pet care? Let’s put your knowledge to the test with some common myths that even the most devoted pet parents might believe! Spoiler: Not everything we hear about pet care is true, and it’s time to clear things up! 🚫🐶🐱

🔸 Myth #1: Cats don’t need as much water as dogs. Truth: Cats can be just as prone to dehydration, so keep that water bowl full and fresh!

🔸 Myth #2: Dogs age seven years for every human year. Truth: Dogs age at different rates based on their breed and size—puppyhood and senior years aren’t the same for every pup!

🔸 Myth #3: Only pets with long fur need grooming. Truth: Short-haired pets benefit from regular grooming too, which helps with shedding and skin health.

What’s a pet care myth you’ve heard? Share in the comments, and let’s keep debunking together! 👇🐾

Honoring Our Senior Pets This November! 🐾💖

Whether your pet is strutting their stuff in a cute outfit or just hanging out for some cuddly Halloween movie time, let’s make this day a howling good time! 🐶🍬

🧡 Halloween Pet Tips:

• Costume Check: Make sure your pet’s costume isn’t too tight or restrictive, and avoid any small parts that can be chewed off. If your pet prefers to go au naturel, a festive bandana does the trick! 🧵🎀

• Pet-Safe Treats Only: Remember, no chocolate, raisins, or candy for pets! Stick to pet-approved snacks to keep everyone safe and happy. 🍪🐾

• Keep Calm and Spooky On: All the Halloween excitement can be a lot for pets. If things get too wild, create a cozy, quiet spot for your pet to relax away from the action. 🕯️
