A to Z Reptile Rescue is shutting their doors temporarily due to a family medical crisis, and we urgently need to re-home a majority of our reptiles. Please DM if you are interested in helping out.
These are just a few of what we have available. Please keep in mind these are rescues and are not in perfect health.

I’ve seen a lot of “I found this turtle” posts lately. PLEASE don’t take a turtle home unless you know 100% for sure that it is not a native species. If you are unsure contact someone who would know: A to Z Reptile Rescue, other rescues, animal control etc.

Turtles are a commonly released pet, but we also have a lot of native turtle species in this area. If you have a turtle that you are no longer able to take care of please contact a local rescue. If you don’t know a local rescue A to Z Reptile Rescue can help you find a close one.

Hello fellow reptile enthusiasts, us here at A to Z Reptile Rescue thank you all for the support during this storm, your donations have been very helpful. Just a reminder that during these storms, we can take in your reptiles and keep them warm if you are having any electric or heat problems as long as you need.

We also provide boarding for other situations like vacations, illnesses, or visiting relatives that just don’t understand. In these cases where the visitor has outstayed their welcome, we can also fake emergency returns.

So, where we are located we are going through a winter storm warning. So I thought it was an appropriate time to post some of our go to’s in a power/heat outage:

-You can keep them near a warm spot in the house such as by a wood burning stove, gas stove or heater vent. If you do this make sure that one side of the tank is towards the heat and the other is away so if it gets too hot they can get away and never put it too close where the glass could get hot enough to break. If the glass is too hot for you to touch, it’s way too hot for them.

-You can get hand warmers and place 1-2 in a sock, tie off the sock and place that in the cage. You can place 1-2 hand warmers under the cage (just remember that most hand warmers need air for the chemical heat reactions to take place). Again you always want to keep heat on one side so if something goes wrong and it gets too hot they can get away to the other side.

- Holding your reptile and using your body heat to help warm them up or providing like warm soaks can help warm them also. If you do soaks make sure you dry them because being wet in a cold environment can make the cold worse as we all know. This also goes for the water inside the enclosure, refreshing it with warm (NOT HOT) water a few times a day can help off set.

-You can wrap tanks in blankets, sweaters and towel to help insulate and keep heat in.

The critical number to be worried about for a healthy adult lizard or snake is 50 degrees. As long as they don’t get below 50 or don’t stay in the 50-70 range for more than a week they should be fine. Do not feed them until they are reliably back up to normal temperatures though as the food can rot in their stomachs if they don’t have the heat for digestion.

We're spending the week highlighting our students and the amazing INTERNSHIPS they have in our community. Each Wednesday, ALL Bitney Prep students spend the full day at an internship of their choosing to get real-world, hands-on experience.
Like Alexa from the Bitney Prep Class of 2026 who has an amazing internship working at A to Z Reptile Rescue
To take a look at a list of some of the INTERNSHIPS that Bitney Prep students have taken advantage of, go to our website at https://bitneyprep.net/ and click on the INTERNSHIPS tab in the header.

Are you looking for something to do after school? Or looking for something to keep your teens busy after school? We currently have 8 open volunteer positions available at A to Z Reptile Rescue (hours are flexible). Volunteers will be feeding and cleaning cages and also helping socialize the reptiles in our care (currently about 100). Socializing includes holding and petting the reptiles. The volunteers also are taught everything you could possibly want to know about reptiles from care to origins and why they eat and don’t eat certain things. This could be a great opportunity to increase your knowledge base or just help to get over your fears. If you are interested call or text (530) 913-4848.
