Stewart is the last of our code red dogs who need placement ASAP! Since other dogs went to rescue, it gives him a little more time, but more dogs keeping flying in the doors at AC so we still need to get him out!

Stewart is a gorgeous hunk of a boy around 2 years old and 65 pounds. He seems to be okay with other dogs in our care! He tends to have a calmer demeanor.

If you have space for Stewart, please let us know!!

**Please note: we are an animal control facility and cannot adopt dogs out from our facility. They have to go a licensed rescue or shelter to be fully vetted and evaluated before adoption. If you are interested in adoption, please message the page and we can connect you to a local rescue. ***

This is what a second chance at life does for our dogs. This is from Opal’s (formally known as Tootsie) foster to adopt family.

“Opal (formerly known as Tootsie) is doing incredibly well. She is so so sweet, has barely barked, hasn’t growled at all, and shown zero interest in the cats. She even knows sits and is a good walker! And she sticks her tongue out at you for pictures cause she is just that cute. We love her already.”

Thank you again Metro East Humane Society for backing her and helping us get her to a loving home!

A HUGE shoutout to all of our followers. Thanks in large part to you tagging, sharing, donating, being willing to foster/adopt, etc….all EIGHT of these dogs are safe!!

A tremendous thanks goes to 5A's Animal Shelter and Metro East Humane Society for tagging these dogs. One has already been adopted, and two are headed to foster to adopt homes tomorrow.

One sad note is that Laurie, who went to 5As, tested positive for heartworm today. She starts treatment later this week which is a pretty expensive and excruciating process.

If anyone is willing and able, please support these rescues with monetary donations! They could REALLY use it. They both always step up to the plate anytime we need it. They adapt, make room, make adjustments, and bend over backwards to help us!!

Again, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do your part, and spay and neuter your pets. We are hitting code red status WAY too frequently, and the outlook isn’t good in our community. We will continue to need help, and these dogs all deserve our best!

UPDATE: RESCUE FOUND! SAFE!

PLEASE HELP!!

We have Chief and Tootsie both with people who want to adopt them, but in order to do that, we HAVE to have a rescue to back them. Full vetting has to be completed for them to go to an adoptive home according to Illinois Department of Agriculture guidelines.

With that being said, we are desperately searching for a backing rescue so they can go to adoptive homes!!!

Please share and get the word out so we can find backing rescue for them!!

We have been able to get six dogs tagged and moved out of animal control today, but we are still in desperate need for Chief, Stewart, and Tootsie to find rescue‼️‼️‼️

5As was able to make room and adjustments to take in FIVE dogs today!!! Metro East Humane Society was able to work in one even due to lack of space themselves. We are so extremely grateful to both of these rescues that are always the first to step up to the plate to help us and other local animals!! The following pictures of are the dogs who are safe today.

Please donate to them to help with vetting of these dogs if you are able or get out and adopt one of these sweet babies!!

‼️‼️CODE RED EMERGENCY ‼️ ‼️

Update: everyone has rescue except Stewart! He still needs a place to go!!!

This is a very difficult post, but after almost 2 years of not having to euthanize except for aggression and sickness, we are at a terrible crossroads. We have been at or above capacity for over a month and barely keeping our heads above water with very few dogs leaving. We have a couple local rescue that consistently pull dogs from us, that we are so grateful for, but it makes it so difficult when there are a lot of local rescues who pull most often from out of area or out of state saying they are in crisis, when we are in crisis right here in their backyard!

Our town is at a crisis point in regards to stray or unwanted dogs. As an animal control facility, we cannot just not go out on calls or take in a dog running at large. We have to have open kennel space. There were EIGHT calls for different dogs before even 9am today.

With that being said, appointments are set for Tuesday for several dogs. In order to keep that from happening, we need to move more than just 1-2 dogs. These 6 are in IMMEDIATE danger. We need to move them NOW!

We can all be keyboard warriors, and scream from the sidelines, but until you are in the trenches with the animal welfare crisis, you probably have little knowledge of how bad the crisis truly is.
So what can you do? Please share, tag, make calls etc. Tagging PEOPLE rather than pages is more successful as many pages don’t get notifications of the tag. Or if you have a direct way to contact them. Foster for a local rescue or adopt so they can intake more dogs! Most importantly…SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS and keep them contained!!! We are doing everything possible on our end, but we cannot keep on like this.
