We are proud to announce that Ericka, our veterinary technician, has passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam to officially become certified and licensed. This is not only a great achievement for her but also for the Wellness Center at CPHS and all the animals we care for! We are so glad she has chosen to share her skills and knowledge with us.

Veterinary Technicians have 2-4years of schooling, hands on training, and externships. Following this, there is a 3 hour test covering all the aspects of their education. After passing, technicians must complete multiple courses yearly to maintain their licensing.

Lucy's owners brought her in for spay surgery today. She did great! Once she was out of recovery, she decided to hang out with all of us. She loved all the pets & cuddles! ❤️ Such a sweet girl!

Help us congratulate our veterinary assistant Shelby on 3 Years at CPHS! Prior to our Wellness Center she worked with the animals at the main shelter, assisted training volunteers, and bottled fed many kittens. We were excited to have her join us- don’t worry though, she’s still a dedicated foster!

While you’re there, might as well stop into the shelter to see some adoptable animals. It’s a win/win!!

A big part of what we do is providing medical care to the shelter animals at CPHS. We also do their spay/neuter surgeries, so that they're ready for their forever homes. And sometimes their forever home is waiting for them.

Clementine, now known as Lacy, was spayed today and went to her forever home! She's so loved already! Go, have the best life, sweet girl! And thank you to her new family for choosing adoption! ❤️

Bree Ann was a little confused why her Grandma would bring us donuts (after she woke up in a strange place) but we appreciated the gesture! We also enjoyed some pizza because our kitty patient Bandit was kind enough to get us Dino’s Pizza Logan Town Center for lunch! We’re a lucky group.

SPAY DAYS is a low-cost spay/neuter program offered by the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society.

Each application will need emailed to [email protected] or dropped off to the shelter. Once the application is received, you will receive a phone call within a week to have a scheduled date for surgery. Today marks another milestone! Over 200 animals spayed and neutered since our program began April 1st! Asher was our 200th! This handsome kitty lives in Altoona with his mom. Here's what Asher's mom had to say about our Spay Days program: "For me, I'm a newly single mom. Taking on the transition of that has been a challenge. So, having programs like this is such a blessing!".

We are so excited to be able to make such a positive impact on our community!

Oh Monty 🙄. He keeps getting himself into trouble but when it comes to his veterinary care he has been just the best boi 🥰

‼️ IMMEDIATE FOSTER OR ADOPTER NEEDED ‼️

Monty is 3 years old. He came to us in need of medical care for a broken leg. The broken leg cannot heal because he keeps breaking or ripping the cast off. His neuter surgery is also healing poorly because he does not want to be calm to allow himself to feel better. The shelter environment is making this a challenge.

We are looking for a home without other animals. He has not been assessed but he has reacted poorly towards other dogs just walking by. He also needs to heal so he cannot be out running around. Children should be 10-12 years and older. He is human friendly but does have a tendency to mouth the leash or hands. During the brief time of him being calm, he does want attention and enjoys being loved on.

Rae and Sophia’s (former CPHS German Shepherds) parents at Kiley’s lawncare and landscaping donated a multifunction printer to help us print vaccine and spay/ neuter certficates easily! Of course they didn’t turn down the opportunity to visit with 2 of our pups and their mom!
