Everest spent some time at Bellwood library with volunteers from central Pennsylvania Humane Society today. He explored the area and got read to, got lots of pets and love, and made lots of biscuits. What a great program. See you next month!!

Our December Paws 2 Read event at the Altoona Area Public Library was a success! We brought along two amazing puppies, Irish Cream (pending adoption) and Skrewball (still available for adoption) I’m not sure who enjoyed the puppy bellies and puppy breath more, the children or the adults! The puppies heard lots of great stories from some fantastic readers. Each child was able to take home an ornament generously made and donated to CPHS from a talented community member. We were told a joke from one of our visitors tonight that we will pass on for you to share this holiday season:

How do you know Santa is good at karate? 🤔
Because he has a black belt 🤪

Thank you to everyone that supports this program and makes it a success. We have so much fun every month and it’s such a privilege for the dogs to get social interaction, exposure, lots of love and time away from the shelter. We are looking forward to 2026 with more readers and more adoptions ✨

Rocket was so thankful to be able to spend an evening at the Altoona Area Public Library Paws 2 Read event. We saw some familiar faces and made some new friends too. He loved hearing about Dog Man and other stories about colors and seasonings. We had some really fantastic readers again this month! We’ll see you on Dec 8th with some exciting surprises ❤️💚

Run D.O.G. had a fantastic time with visitors reading Halloween stories to him. He just loves the attention that children give to him. At one point he tried reading on his own. Of course, we had to stop to give him a pup cup. Run is four years old and available for adoption PA Humane Society

✨Otter has been adopted✨

Otter had a spooktacular time at our October Paws 2 Read event at the Altoona Area Public Library. He loved meeting Miss Clarissa and all of his new friends. Otter is six months old, and he met a human friend the same age as him. He also made a friend that was in town all the way from Idaho. He had a great time with each and every visitor. He loved hearing about Clifford, and we imagined Otter as a big red dog. Otter also enjoyed all the loves and snuggles he got from another new friend. After our time at the library, we stopped at the Meadow’s where Otter throughly enjoyed his pup cup and also enjoyed making a mess while eating it.

Our super awesome Beagle, Cinnamon Raisin went to PAWS to Read event at the Hollidaysburg Area Library today. She loved being read to and having them give her a lot of attention. Cinnamon is available for adoption Central PA Humane Society. Of course after she got a treat at Meadows with the Pup Cup.

✨Pumpernickel has been adopted✨

Sweet little adoptable Beagle, Pumpernickel, from the Central Pa Humane Society, adventured out of the shelter for the first time on Monday to explore the Altoona Area Public Library and their monthly PAWS for Reading children’s event. Although unsure of her surroundings at first, she quickly settled in, throughly enjoying meeting children’s Librarian, Ms. Clarissa & her staff and soaking up all the loving they had to offer, including many belly rubs! She also very much liked being read to by a wonderful young reader and her family members. Pumpernickel says, “Thank you for a wonderful visit!”

***TOMAHAWK WAS ADOPTED***

Sweet Tomahawk brought so many smiles to our monthly Paws 2 Read event at the Altoona library. He made plenty of friends and heard some great stories! Tomahawk is the last of his littermates waiting on a home. He loved all the children that read to him, and he gets along with dogs and cats as well - he even enjoyed hearing a story about cats!

Run D.O.G. had a fabulous time at Paws To Read today and the children loved him. Everyone commented on well behaved and loving he is. Afterwards we took him on a walk and got him a pup cup at Meadows. I hope this awesome guy finds his home soon. Central PA Humane Society.
