ADOPTED!
Donnie is a young adult Rottweiler who is looking for a new home! Donnie was lucky enough to have the opportunity to participate in our Prison Program for roughly 8 weeks where they taught him the basics of how to be a dog. He should only need a refresher on potty training and other commands such as sit, stay, lay down, etc. Donnie has a nervous demeanor in this environment, but did well while he was in the Prison Program. Donnie does well with other dogs and likely cats, but takes a little bit to warm up to new people.

Meet Trouble! Trouble is a 9-12 month old pointer(?) mix and is the sweetest fella and was lucky enough to have the opportunity to participate in our Prison Program for roughly 8 weeks where they taught him the basics of how to be a dog. He should only need a refresher on potty training and other commands such as sit, stay, lay down, etc.
Trouble loves to learn new things and is extremely toy and treat driven. He absolutely lives for making his people happy. Trouble does well with other dogs and cats, LOVES to play with kids of all ages, and would be the perfect fit for just about any home imaginable.

Hope is currently participating in our training program, if you would like to meet her when she gets back, please contact our office at (580)481-2285

Hope is a young adult pit mix. Although you wouldn't know it looking at her giant bat ears, she is approximately 25-35 lbs and is the absolute sweetest thing. Hope would do well with kids and other dogs, but we don't know about cats.

ATTENTION TRAPPERS

We ask that you refrain from setting any traps (either for cats or wildlife) until the snow has passed on. The majority of these animals will have a warm spot already picked out to wait out the snow and will be unable to seek shelter if caught in a live animal trap which may result in death.

It's cold out!

In this weather, we encourage everyone to bring their animals inside to stay warm, although we understand that isn't always possible. If your animals must stay outside, we ask that you make sure they have adequate shelter and that their water remains unfrozen.
Adequate shelter is described as a structure with a floor, a roof, and 3 walls that is large enough for the animal to be comfortable, but small enough to retain body heat. Additionally, it can be a good idea to add a safe heat source to your pets shelter to assist in keeping them warm.
If anyone is in need of additional blankets, we have a limited supply we are able to give out.

We are reaching out to the community to try and find owners for many of the animals here at the City of Altus Animal Shelter. We are at an all time high intake and are doing everything we can to find homes for dogs and cats, but we are out of space at this time. If you own one of these wonderful dogs/cats or know where they belong, please reach out to us.

Thank you all so much for the help, volunteers, donations and adoptions!
