🐾 Happy Thanksgiving Safety Tips from Alvarado Animal Services🦃

Thanksgiving is a time for family, food, and fun—and we want to ensure your beloved pets stay safe and sound amidst the festivities!

Please review these important tips to protect your furry family members this holiday season:

# # **🚫 Food Faux Pas: Keep It Out of Reach**
* **Keep Human Food Out of Reach:** Many traditional Thanksgiving foods (like turkey skin, bones, gravy, onions, garlic, and chocolate desserts) can cause serious digestive issues or be toxic to pets. No matter how much they beg, stick to pet-friendly treats!
* **Secure Your Trash:** After the feast, be sure to secure all garbage cans. Leftover bones, food wrappers, and cooking string can become hazardous choke points or cause internal damage if ingested.

# # **🚨 Prevent Holiday Hazards**
* **Watch Your Decorations:** Tinsel, candles, electrical cords, and decorative plants (like certain lilies) can be tempting and dangerous for curious pets. Place breakable or hazardous items where paws and tails can't reach them.
* **NO Alcohol (Even If the Cat Cries!):** Alcohol can be extremely toxic, even in small amounts. Never give your pet alcoholic beverages or foods prepared with alcohol.

# # **🏡 Keeping Them Calm & Safe**
* **Separate Area for Pets:** If your home will be full of excited guests, consider keeping your pet in a separate, secure, and quiet room with their favorite toys, food, and water. This prevents accidental escapes and keeps them from being underfoot.
* **Up-to-Date ID & Microchips:** Ensure your pet's ID tags are securely fastened and that your microchip registration information is **current**. If the excitement gets too much and your pet manages to slip out, having updated information is the fastest way to a happy reunion!

Starting 11/24/25, our hours on Mondays and Wednesdays will be extended to 6 PM. 🎉
(Of course, we’ll still be closed on holidays!)

🚨 URGENT CALL FOR ADOPTERS & FOSTERS! Our Dogs Need YOU Now! 🐾
We are reaching out to our community with a serious and urgent need. Two wonderful dogs in our care are showing signs of stress and decline, and they desperately need to leave the shelter environment immediately for foster or adoptive homes. Their health and happiness depend on getting out now.

💔 Meet the Dogs Who Can't Wait:
J.D. A sweet soul who arrived as a stray . He is a little timid around men J.D. is declining in the shelter environment and needs a calm, stable place to decompress and thrive. He is listed as a male and is not yet neutered.He would prefer to be in a home with fixed female dogs.

Rogue (Siberian Husky): A handsome, 1-year-old male Husky. Rogue is ready to go home immediately—he is already neutered and microchipped. He is listed as "Available," but his condition is urgent. Rogue is a thief and will steal your heart.

We also have other amazing dogs ready to write their happily ever afters:

Cinderella: a female young adult white and black sweet Collie type

Reba: A small sweet little red American Red Heeler mix who needs a loving home.

Fira: A 7-month-old female Siberian Husky absolutely breathtaking with a smaller stature and very sweet to all except cats.

ADOPT: If you are ready for a forever commitment, please consider one of these dogs. They deserve a stable home immediately.

FOSTER: If you can temporarily open your home, even for a few weeks, you will be a hero. Fostering provides the essential break from the stress that dogs like J.D. and Rogue need to stabilize their health.

Violations include excessively rapid zoomies, attempting to bribe staff with puppy dog eyes, and tail wagging at hazardous speeds, among other issues.
