Another possible hurricane is headed our way Tuesday-Wednesday time frame… sadly even if it doesn’t land in Houston we are slow close to the Gulf we will likely see lots of wind and rain…

With that in mind, start to prepare now. Get extra bad of dog food for your house. Make sure to grab bottle water, test the generator and pick up all your cool yard decorations (oh is that just us! 😂)

Also don’t forget to check your gate, put a lock on it so the wind doesn’t push it open for your dog to escape once let outside to go potty! With that said, after a storm always check your backyard first. Look for downed or holes in your fence, check your gates make sure they are secure…

You’ve got this Houston!

With how busy we have been this last week I forgot to put photos up from Bear’s time here with us. Here are some of his highlights and a couple others sprinkled in just for fun 😂

Bear was going through a fear phase when he arrived, so we have spent all of our time focusing on building his confidence and giving him clear boundaries and guidelines to follow.

We completed Bear’s training by having his family come to the facility and had Mom and Dad feed the kids Doritos and French Fries 😂🤣😂 previously this would have resulted in very aggressive behavior from Bear… but with foundations in place, a framework for him to follow, Bear succeeded like we knew he could!

Despite not being here for a traditional training program Bear is being awarded an Elite K9 Companion Championship belt 🤘🏼❤️ we are so proud of you buddy and can’t wait for your family to enjoy the old loving you again 🐶

UPDATE: Transportation has been found!

Texas friends, I need a transport for a gentleman to be picked up in Cypress to get his dog at barc and brought back Friday around noon. Which means you’d need to be there by 11 for drive time. Message me privately for details and if you’re willing.

As always we make sure to reward our staff handsomely 😎❤️

Pic completely unrelated 🤷🏽‍♂️😂😂🤣 he is just so handsome! ❤️

One of my colleagues whom I trust with her knowledge and expertise; shared this perspective with me after hearing we had a sick pup:

(Thanks Amber at P13 Dog training❤️)

I don't know if this is what you're dealing with but this is what I learned a while back. Here is the post I made.

Good morning all. This is going to be a rather long post and more of a PSA.

Everyone on here knows I officially opened my own facility, outside of my home, this past November. Little history about me real quick.

I have worked in both the Veterinary world (GP, Specialty and emergency) and the boarding, training day care world for 23yrs. So my knowledge is more than just training. I have a medical background as well. I understand a little more than your normal trainer and facility owner. I'm not bashing anyone I'm just giving my history.

I am the type of person that when a problem arises I learn everything I can about how to fix or do my part to lessen the burden of said problem.

All of this leads me into the reason for my post as I enjoy educating when I can, so here we go.

This is about kennel cough or respiratory complex illness, as it's now referred to in some cases.

What I did know:

Typical symptoms- can start 3-5 days from exposure: coughing, sneezing, lethargic, vomiting and sometimes stop eating.

Length of time sick- 10-14 with active symptoms

Transmission- air borne virus that spreads via cough, sneezing, barking or any surface that has had saliva from an infected dog. Transmission can happen from an a-symptomatic (no visible signs) as well. Meaning they are shedding the virus without showing any signs they have it.

It spreads like wildfire because it can be "invisible" because we dont "see/hear" they symptoms.

Safe to be back in the dog community when symptom free for 14 days........

What I learned yesterday-

What I learned yesterday shocked me and prompted this post. They (veterinarians) are finding that some strands of this virus actually shed up to 90 days after symptoms have stopped!! Read that again! Your dog can still spread and or catch this virus from a non symptomatic dog for up to 90 days after the last sign.

Let that sink in.

Now, THIS explains why facilities like mine are constantly fighting this virus. The more social your dog is the higher chance they are going to come into contact with the virus. Please understand that we (facilities like mine) do everything we can to prevent the spread. My facility specifically uses the Veterinary recommended disinfectant, RESCUE, for this virus and others to clean every day and my protocol is very strict.

Here are the facts that make it even more difficult to contain:

The virus lives:
On your skin for 12hrs
Your clothes/shoes for 24hrs
On surfaces and air for up to 48hrs

The virus can spread in silence.
Just like with human viruses, some dogs are more prone to getting it than others. Young dogs (under a year), immune compromised and older dogs are at higher risks.

My purpose for this post again is for educational reasons. Also for clients and other dog owners to understand the virus better and not be so quick to throw blame at a facility. Most likely we didn't even know we had it going around. Also be prepared for me to call you or your emergency contact to come get your dog if they are showing signs. Especially for my facility, I am very small, 25 total, it will spread quickly.

One last thought:
Taking your dog to a public dog park, day care, school or camp is the same risk as taking your children to a park, school, day care or camps. Any community environment is going to always pose a risk for being exposed.

For the safety of all dogs, despite vaccination status all social is cancelled until Sunday 😞 it’s our favorite part of the week too, we are very bummed!!

Staff is actively cleaning the facility like always trying to keep the spread of anything as minimal as possible. So far almost everyone is symptom free!

Just a reminder: if your fury friend has the sniffles or cough don’t bring them out into public and definitely don’t drop them off at daycare 🙏

If we all work together our doggies can have many many more days playing together! We think patient zero may have been from a vet visit, only one doggie has shown symptoms so far 😞 and we’d like to keep it that way

Yesterday’s construction efforts did result in us losing power for the day. We have most of the house back up and running but couldn’t figure out a couple rooms 😆🤦🏽‍♂️

Always hire a reputable company, it may cost a little more but when mistakes like this happen you are generally covered.

We will be back posting videos to google drives today 🤘🏼 clean up from the hurricane is still going on but isn’t stopping the training!

PSA:

During storms fences come down, gates get swung open in the rain, boards get knocked down and holes are created. If you have a dog that has bite another dog, cat or clearly will chase and try to attack squirrels; you MUST walk your yard after a storm to ensure it’s safe to release your animal into your own yard where it can not escape and hurt someone else.

I know we are all going through a lot this time of year. Emotions are high, patience is thin, but others don’t deserve to be at the pet ER because of your neglect.

Power is still out, all the dogs are staying cool in the kennels with AC and fans..

Sleeping in this heat definitely brings me right back to Iraq/Afghanistan… This situation may suck, I’ve been hit, cranky, frustrated and bewildered but through it all I remain grateful to be back here in the USA 🇺🇸

We are NOT doing doggie daycare or able to take anymore boarding dogs until power is restored. We are so very sorry!

The training dogs here are still working hard just in smaller increments 😂

Still no power, but we are feeling lucky! Huge tree in the backyard came down inches from our back fence! The tree in the front yard was inches from the Tesla.. we will take using a generator for a couple days over major property damage any day!

We are currently full due to the shortage of AC and needing to care for the dogs on property. Once power is restored I will text those that have reached out for assistance directly.

Until then stay safe, stay strong!

07/08/2024

Power out generator and everything up and running, all staff and dogs are currently safe.

Stay strong Texas 🤙🏻 oh and let’s get the lights back on soon.. 🤘🏼
