Please check to see where your nurse mare is coming from! All the mares at Lonestar nurse mares are induced with medication and hormones. We do not breed mares and pull foals when they are born or wean older ones either.

Every year, tens of thousands of horses are born in the US. The most common need for nurse mares is if the mare dies or does not produce milk or simply rejects the foal then a nurse mare will be used.

There is a lot of misinformed people in the world that may not fully understand how our nurse mare program may work at Lonestar. We only induce our mares into lactation, WE DO NOT breed them or wean foals off of them to be used as nurse mares. Our mares get used one time per season and then they have time to dry up and enjoy their pasture time with friends.
