Luffa is a genus of vines in the pumpkin, squash, and gourd family. Luffas are edible, compostable, and pollinators love its bright yellow flowers. Once they are dried you can use them for skin exfoliation, household cleaning, crafts and more. The fibers can be boiled in water, which is then used as medicine. Luffa is taken by mouth for treating and preventing colds. It is also used for nasal swelling and sinus problems. Some people use it for arthritis pain, muscle pain, and chest pain. Luffa fruit are similar in taste to zucchinis and cucumbers, with some varieties exhibiting a sweeter taste than others.

Horned melon, or kiwano, is a tropical fruit within the cucumber family, originating from Africa, Australia, and certain Pacific islands. Its unique appearance features an orange rind with spiky spurs, while the flesh when cut, reveals a cucumber-like appearance with a thick, horned outer layer. The flesh is translucent green, has a jelly-like texture, and offers a flavor that blends cucumber and zucchini characteristics. Now of course these beauties are not fully ripe yet, but they sure look cool and I just had to share!!

As we celebrate the Fourth of July, we wanted to share some pictures of our Microgreens flourishing in the natural light that pours in through our skylights.

Our new sample packs are here, and they are loaded with six different varieties of microgreens. This containers contain, our radish mix, red amaranth, purple cabbage, green cabbage, broccoli, and our spicy mustard mix. Come and grab one starting tomorrow July 2, at S.E.A Market Oriental Food. We will also have some at the Canyon Farmers Market, and don’t forget you can get our cut microgreens at Ranchers Store Front- On the Square. These little beauties are Mung Beans! Mung Beans are an excellent source of vitamins, including B6, K and folate. They’re also a good source for minerals, such as calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium. These beans are also a rich source for plant proteins. They make a great addition to any salad or sandwich, with a fun crunch and a delicious flavor. Our new grow space is a game-changer for our Microgreens! With plenty of space, lots of natural lighting, running water, and its temperature controlled, our micros have never looked happier or healthier. We are delighted to see them thrive and can't wait to share them with everyone!!
