My Story
Hi! My name is Karen Duncan and I would like to welcome you to my grooming and training page! I have been grooming dogs for as long as I can remember. My mom taught me to groom and recently told my husband, that she remembers me at 3 years old propped up on a stool and helping her groom a dog back in the days when your groomers helper was a person on the other side of the table, holding. Few will remember those days! At 10 years old I remember getting to tell a customer that I had groomed her baby from start to finish. “Marty” was a charcoal miniature poodle, all hand scissored from head to toe. I will never forget the feeling of pride I had when “Marty’s” mom gave me a 50¢ tip and said he looked beautiful. I have continued chasing that feeling for most of my life. I have competed nationally in professional grooming contests with success. I have groomed and shown Poodles, Cockers, Pekingese, Soft Coated Wheaton Terriers, Golden Retrievers and Irish Setters. I have taught professional all breed grooming for over 35 years. I have a true passion for grooming dogs and I am still honored to be trusted with every pet left in my care, every time. I offer show and pet grooming in a fresh comfortable atmosphere where attention to every detail is guaranteed. I hope you will stop in and say hello and be sure to bring your 4 legged baby. I really do love them as much as you do! Sometimes it is very hard to give them back. If your dog does not love going to the groomer, you usually just don’t have the right groomer.
I have recently added consulting and private instruction to my services. I am licensed to teach all breed grooming in Texas and New Mexico by each of the states, Boards of Education. I am a certified Nash Graduate , Nash Certified Instructor and UCCS certified Canine Safety Specialist. I teach hands on Stylist programs along with specialty training in Model Dogs, Humane and Effective Handling Techniques, Hand Sc******ng, Vacuum Grooming, Career Longevity Tips, Salon Design, Time Saving Tips and Tricks, Tools for Ease and Health, Salon Safety, Canine First Aid and CPR, Client Retention How to “Get Them and Keep Them”. Salon Management, “ How To Build and Keep a Happy and Loyal Salon Crew.
I am currently working on a Stylist/Groomer “Burnout Buster” Workshop which should be up and running by September 2019.
I offer 2 week Grooming Boot Camps, which are intense two week programs for Bather/Technicians wishing to become pet groomers as quickly as possible. It is a tough class but very effective. Stylists wishing to improve sc******ng or other skills, Vacuum Grooming, Pattern Setting, Contest Prep. etc.. Stylists can customize their Bootcamp to fit their needs.
