Valentine's Day isn't so sweet for pets when chocolates or sugar-free candies are involved. 🍫
While many of us love receiving it, chocolate is toxic to many types of pets, including cats, dogs, birds, and rabbits. But chocolate isn't the only Valentine's treat you need to keep to yourself. Xylitol, a sweetener found in many sugar-free candies, can be especially harmful to dogs, causing seizures, liver failure, and other serious health complications. This year, celebrate love by keeping those sweet treats out of your furry friend's reach!

CATURDAY SATURDAY!!!
February is National Dental Month and we would like to remind you that dental care is very important. Did you know dental radiographs is a very important diagnostic to help us check under the gum line for the condition of your pet's teeth. Abscesses, fractures and abnormal tissue may be hard to see unless a radiograph is taken. Here is Togepi and Jean-Ralphio showing off their smiles. They are so silly! 🐾😺🐾 Let us help you keep your pet's teeth healthy! We offer informational dental kits with samples of tooth paste, tooth brush and dental diets. On your next visit ask about a dental sample kit.
Here is a link to the American Veterinary Medical Association. There is a video on how to provide home dental care.

This is Shadow a 4 year old Beagle who paid us a visit on Christmas day. He came in as an emergency after ingesting a cat toy. His owners brought a matching toy for our doctors to have an idea of what size toy he had ingested. Vomiting did not work despite coming in right away for this problem. Our doctor's concern was that the toy filled with fluid from the stomach and may have enlarge in size. There was an attempt to use the endoscope to grab and remove it but the toy was too big. Shadow required surgery and the toy was removed from his stomach. He recovered well from anesthesia and surgery and on his follow up his owners report he is back to his old self! Please send some well wishes to this sweet pup.
Use cautions when playing with cat toys around your dogs. A game of catch can lead to a visit to the emergency room. Thank you to Shadow's owners for allowing us to share his story. Please send some well wishes to this sweet pup.
