Dog Anxiety Awareness Week 5/6-12
Today we have a video of our behavior technician Lindsey working closely with her dog Curly for nail trims. Her dog hate having his nails trimmed. She decided to try a nail grinding tool instead of clippers. Lindsey was extremely patient with Curly and over time was able to get his permission to grind his nails to keep them at a healthier length.
Most of our hospital staff are trained in Fear Free Approach. We have pets who come in for nail trims that require medication. Allowing a pet to calm before any procedure is done is important. We do not encourage man handling, wrestling or any other physical handling that may increase anxiety in a pet. This Fear Free website can be helpful.

HomeAgain did it! HomeAgain TempScan chip allows our staff to scan your pets microchip for temperature check during their visits. This helps avoid the stressful attempt to check a temperature when you pet comes in for wellness, sick or emergency visits. The microchip is fairly new - within the last year or so. Our technicians have scanned newly adopted pets from local shelters with these tempscan chips! If your pet doesn't have a microchip and you are thinking about getting your pet microchipped - this maybe the chip for your pet! Does your pet have a TempScan Chip? What are your thoughts about this product?
Whisker Wednesday
This little house tiger came in due to lethargy from having low blood sugar. After some supportive care and a hefty meal he was back to his playful self - taking down his prey. Did you know that puppies and kittens can run low blood sugar levels if they go too long without a meal? Puppies and kittens need special care while they are growing. All kittens and puppies benefit from a series of wellness visits in their first year of life to give them a fighting start against parasites, infections and to protect them from diseases with vaccines and preventatives.

Kol is a 3 year old Domestic Shorthair Cat with dental disease. On his wellness visit it was discussed that he would require presurgical blood work prior to his dental so we can plan on an appropriate anesthetic plan. It was noted he had gingivitis and several resorptive lesions on his oral exam. His mom planned for a dental and extractions. Resorptive lesions - formerly known to as feline odontoclastic resorptive lesion (FORL) or cervical line lesion happens when the dentin in a single tooth (or several simultaneously) erodes and eventually becomes irreparably destroyed. In some cases the tooth crown can brake off. Kol was fasted (no food) the night before his procedure, admitted the following morning, and given oral pre medications prior to his anesthesia. While under general anesthesia full mouth dental radiographs were taken and evaluated by his veterinarian. Extractions were necessary for Kol. He had dental blocks performed to numb his upper and lower jaw and pain medications administered. He recovered well and was sent home on antibiotics and pain medications later than evening. Within a day or two he was back to his old self. He will have a follow up visit with his veterinarian to make sure his gums are healed. Thank you for watching this mini video of this amazing mini house panther! πΎπ©Ίπ¦·
