Someone recently told me a couple of weeks ago that I shouldn't share my story. That big organizations/corporations wouldn't want to support me. They would only look at me as if I was just a drug addict!! (Although I have 15 years clean and sober) and have worked my butt off to get to where I am today.
I will always share my story to let others know they too can overcome whatever comes their way!!!!!
Thank you Kathleen Reynolds for the beautiful story.

By Kathleen Reynolds From early childhood, Charlotte Dougherty suffered a traumatic life. She was abused, rebelled as a teen, started using drugs and found herself in prison. In 2009, she altered her course by starting SpiritHorse, a therapeutic equine experience for those in need.“I changed my li...

This photo says it all... Taken by Isabel Solaga —me, my granddaughters, and our two second-chance ponies, living proof that resilience comes in many forms. These ponies have overcome challenges, as I have and now they carry my granddaughters with the same strength and heart that helped them find their way home.
Watching them ride, I see more than just girls on ponies—I see trust, growth, and the power of second chances. These ponies were given a new chapter, and in return, they are teaching my granddaughters about courage, patience, and the unbreakable bond between horse and rider.
Here’s to the lessons we learn from our animals and the resilience that carries us all forward. 💖🐎 This photo says it all—me, my granddaughters, and our two second-chance ponies, living proof that resilience comes in many forms. ✨ A Story of Second Chances & Unbreakable Bonds ✨

Meet Prince, a pony who defied the odds. When he came to us, he was on the brink—starved, weak, and barely holding on. But deep inside, he still had a spark, a will to fight, and so much love left to give.

With time, care, and unwavering compassion, Prince found his strength again. And in the process, he found Aubri—a kindred spirit who saw past his scars and into his heart. Their connection is something truly special, built on trust, love, and second chances.

Prince may be old, but his spirit is timeless. He reminds us all that no matter where we come from or what we’ve been through, love and kindness can heal even the deepest wounds. ❤️🐴

Meet our newly elected President .

Kent brings a wealth of leadership, business acumen, and community service experience to his role as the newly elected President of SpiritHorse Equine Center. A graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1970, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served a tour in Vietnam in 1971.

After returning from military service, he served as Assistant Director of the Omega House drug counseling program from 1972 to 1974. Transitioning into the financial sector, he worked as an operations manager and loan officer for First National Bank of Nevada from 1974 to 1977. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to open a frozen yogurt retail store, followed by a distinguished career in the retail jewelry business, culminating in his ownership of Napa Valley Jewelers from 1992 until his retirement in 2023.

An active leader in his community, Kent has served on numerous boards and in executive leadership roles. He was a three-time board member and past President of the Rotary Club of Napa and dedicated 13 years to “If Given A Chance,” a scholarship program for disadvantaged youth, serving three terms as Executive Director. His commitment to local businesses was evident in his nine years on the Napa Downtown Association board, where he served three terms as Executive Director. Additionally, he chaired the Napa Choir Buster board in 2005.

With a lifelong dedication to service and a proven track record in organizational leadership, Kent is excited to guide SpiritHorse into a new era of growth and impact.

Dear Friend of Spirit Horse,

As we look back on 2024, we are overwhelmed with appreciation for the incredible magic you, our supporters, have made possible at SpiritHorse Equine Assisted Center. We’ve accomplished so much together, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

2024 Highlights: Empowering Lives Through the Healing Power of Horses

This year has been extraordinary, filled with milestones that have strengthened our mission and expanded our reach:
* Welcoming New Participants: We expanded our equine-assisted programs, serving more clients than ever before—including youth at risk, children with diverse abilities, and veterans.
* Securing Spirit Horse Ranch: Thanks to your support, we’ve created a beautiful, safe home for the life-changing programs that touch so many lives in our community.
* Facilitating Thousands of Equine Experiences: Each session brought hope and healing—helping veterans process trauma, empowering children to build confidence, and fostering resilience for individuals facing unique challenges.
* Strengthening Community Ties: Through events and collaborations with local agencies, we have broadened our network of support, building a stronger, more connected community.

Your Role in Spirit Horse’s Future Spirit Horse Ranch is more than just a physical space—it’s a sanctuary of hope, healing, and transformation. Our vision for 2025 is ambitious: to launch new initiatives like youth camps and expand services for veterans to deepen our impact.

* Continue providing life-changing equine-assisted services.
* Maintain a welcoming and safe environment for all participants.
* Expand programs to meet the growing needs of our community.
