Lyla and Lucien are a bonded pair who have been living in shelters for nearly 200 days. When they first transferred to our shelter, they were so shy that volunteers didn’t know they were even in the community room. Lucien started exploring sooner than Lyla, and now they’re both very outgoing, cuddly, and love dinner time. Their holiday wish is for a permanent, cozy home with plenty of treats and cuddles.

If you’re interested in applying for Lyla and Lucien. you can submit an application at amesanimalshelter.org

Melvin isn’t our longest resident, but he is our cat who has lived in shelters the longest. Melvin is a sweet 5 year old FIV positive cat who was transferred to our shelter in October. He is wishing for a home who can care for him, be patient with him, and give him plenty of butt scratches.

Being FIV-positive means Melvin has a weaker immune system, so he’ll need regular vet checkups, a healthy diet, and a low-stress, indoor-only home to keep him feeling his best. FIV can’t be transmitted to humans or dogs and is only spread to other cats through deep bite wounds. Senior cats like Melvin make wonderful, loving companions, and with proper care, they can live long, happy lives.

If you’re interested in fulfilling Melvin’s wish, submit an application at amesanimalshelter.org

Yesterday our Animal Control vehicle got to do something a little different! We delivered gifts for 88 residents at Accura and The Rose assisted living facilities here in Ames. Our Animal Control Clerk, Abbey, arranges this giving opportunity called Santas for Seniors each year with the help of fellow city employees. City employees sign up to donate gifts to seniors needing extra holiday cheer based on their holiday wish lists. The gifts are then delivered to and opened by the residents during holiday parties at their facilities.

Ron, the Animal Control Supervisor, and Kathy, one of our Animal Control Officers, helped deliver all of the gifts with Abbey on Monday. It was such fun to spread the holiday joy and feel that sense of community. A HUGE shout out to all the City of Ames - City Government employees for generously donating gifts and making this happen. A special thanks to Ashley in the Administrative Services department at City Hall, who helps Abbey every year with collecting and tracking gifts delivered to City Hall.

Boog & Sid are a bonded pair and have been waiting over 100 days for their forever home. They are the definition of a bonded pair: they are almost always cuddling! Boog & Sid's holiday wish is for a loving home where Sid can explore tunnels and Boog can relax up high, keeping an eye on things.

Can you fulfill this sweet pair's wish?
Send in your application at amesanimalshelter.org to meet them!

Hadrian wants to share his holiday wish with everyone. He is our longest resident (116 days) and is a graduate of our Foe to Friend program as well! Hadrian makes the cutest little meep noises. He is wishing for a cozy, quiet home with a patient family who will let him blossom at his own pace. He would also appreciate a sunny window.

Can you fulfill Hadrian’s holiday wish?
Put in an application at amesanimalshelter.org to meet him 😸
