It was another great day chasing late season roosters behind a bunch of phenomenal dogs. The birds held tight and the dog work was excellent. That’s a wrap on our 2024/2025 pheasant season here in Iowa!

It was an epic day here in central Iowa chasing pheasants with Brent Beelner behind Hans, Poppy, Felix, Onyx and Bruno.

Had a fun day chasing quail in southern Iowa behind Hans & Hilde. Bird numbers definitely seem to be lower than in years past, but we eventually got into a nice covey after a few miles of walking. It was also fun watching Connor harvest his first ever quail. I think he may have just caught the quail bug!

We are proud to announce the arrival of our Ida x Hans litter! Yesterday, Ida delivered 11 healthy baby bird dogs – 6 females and 5 males.

Meet Clyde and Marilyn, the passionate owners of Sharp Shooters Kennel, located in New Richmond, Wisconsin. With over three decades of dedication to breeding, training, and testing German shorthaired pointers, Clyde and Marilyn have become iconic figures in the hunting dog community.

In 1990, Clyde and Marilyn purchased their first German shorthaired pointer, marking the beginning of a lifelong passion for versatile hunting dogs. What started as a hobby quickly progressed into a professional endeavor of training and testing dogs in NAVHDA and AKC hunting events, along with selectively breeding German shorthaired pointer puppies. After a stint in northern Illinois, the couple relocated to Wisconsin in 1996, where they’ve since established a legacy of excellence in the field.

What an incredible day in central Iowa! We took to the field with an amazing lineup of dogs: Hilde (Sharp Shooters Only The Worthy NA-I, UT-I), Hans (Sharp Shooters Hans Flyin Solo NA-I, UT-I), and Poppy (Prairie Fire’s Bad Deal)—one of our Ida x Creed pups—alongside Ida’s sire, Felix (Beeline Lucky Felix NA-I), and her grandsire, Onyx (Hurricane Onyx NA-I). Watching four generations of amazing dogs work together to find, point, and retrieve a 4-man limit of wild Iowa roosters was amazing and unforgettable.

Day 2 of the Iowa pheasant opener is in the books. We’re looking forward to more beautiful, productive days in the field behind the dogs. The sorghum that we planted this spring is looking phenomenal, and it’ll be fun hunting it come winter.
