This sweet Main C**n is a pretty shy boy. But oh my isn't he gorgeous! He's not quite the biggest cat we do, but he is our biggest cat by age currently. He's only a year and a half old and very lean and long. Still under 20lbs but strong and powerful lean boy who'll be growing for a while yet.

Thankfully with his large size he also is a super sweet boy and makes handling him a breeze. If he wanted to fight me he could and he'd likely win with how strong he is...but instead he's all about the chin scratches and head bumps!

Hey Ames pet parents, we wanted to share a quick PSA to help protect our community from potential grooming scams. Recently, a new “groomer” came to town, took prepayments from clients, and then completely ghosted both pet owners and local groomers—including us. At least two of us reached out to welcome them, and they never followed through, which raises major red flags.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫:
✔️ 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘉𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘐𝘯𝘧𝘰 – A real groomer will have clear details about their services, location (or mobile setup), and or policies on their website or social media. If this is missing be sure to double check with an in person meet and greet option.

✔️ 𝘔𝘦𝘦𝘵 & 𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘖𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 – Consultations, salon tours, or virtual meet-and-greets should always be available before booking.

✔️ 𝘋𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘷𝘴. 𝘍𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘗𝘢𝘺𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 – While deposits are becoming more common to secure appointments, full prepayment without any prior interaction is not standard and should be a giant red flag!

✔️ 𝘖𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘓𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 – Mobile and salon-based groomers in Iowa should be registered with the Department of Agriculture. House call (they come into your home) does not need this currently. You can verify businesses here: https://data.iowaagriculture.gov/licensing_lists/animal_welfare/

If you're ever unsure about a new grooming business, don't hesitate to ask questions or request proof of legitimacy. We hate to see anyone taken advantage of, and we’re here to help keep our pet community safe!

Yesterday was Feb 1st and the first day of our valentines themed nail caps! Little miss Daisy came in for her pink alternating sparkle set!

Winston came in today to get his regular spa day. Unfortunately I goofed last time and I only did a "long hair bath package and sanitary"... when he usually gets a "bib and pants trim and a deshed" as well. A small distinction, but for a coat of this fluffy magnitude it really did matter!

His mama knew right away and the extra fur in the house added up over the last 6 weeks. Poor boy was furry too. Today he clogged the tub's pre-drain screen several times over during his bath. There was soooo much fur ready to slip right out.

This is the single best photo to date we've ever been able to snap of little miss coco channel. Being a solid black cat we find that these cats are the trickiest to get great pictures of. We are working hard to get some better lighting for the new shop for ideal photo moments like these!

This stunning Siamese kitten is just 7 months old and already a grooming superstar! She was so patient and sweet while getting her winter icicle themed nail caps applied, giving her claws a stylish and seasonal sparkle. ❄️💅

Ragnar is one super chill dude (when you work within his time limits). He's a pretty unique looking cat, his dad is a Maine C**n and his mom is a Himalayan (a sub breed of a Persian). So that facial structure is wild to me!

Unfortunately that means his coat is THICK! He's got the super thick coat of an MC that's built for outdoor waterproofing against the elements and yet that silky fluffy undercoat of a typical Persians drop coat, but combined! So this boy is ALLLLLLL coat!

How can you not just love those sweet eyes though!

🍿 Happy National Popcorn Day! 🍿

Popcorn may be a delightful snack for us humans, but for our feline friends, it’s a no-go! 🐾 While plain popcorn isn’t toxic to cats, those buttery, salty, or sugary toppings we love so much can upset their tummies or even cause health issues.

So instead of sharing your bowl with your kitty, why not treat them to a “purr-fect” snack that’s safe and delicious for them? A little freeze-dried chicken, salmon, or their favorite catnip treat will make their day just as special! 🐱💖

Who's been missing those before and after glamor shots?!

New recently adopted senior cat and this is our first time working with Miss Callie. While she technically falls on the aggressive scale, it's pretty minor. More like a hiss or two and just until she settles into the rhythm of the process. We would simply call this great communication on her part.

She did well for all parts, except for shaving, which tracts for aggressive fur kiddos. They tend to favor bath and blow dries over any vibrations from a clipper. So it's easier to proactively avoid matting with this temperament as opposed to reactively shave out matting.

Overall it was nice to meet her and her newly adopted human. I have a sneaky feeling Callie got super lucky with this owner! 🥰

Indie is an absolute darling of a kitty that we get to see! Barely 10 months old and getting his paws started in grooming!

He was very nervous with the newness of the process, always looking for an escape, so we slowed down to introduce things slowly for him with breaks in between steps. He snuggled with his brother and calmed a bit in the dryer...and by the end he did very well with the final comb out and loved his treat!

Tori came in this past weekend to get all dolled up! This gorgeous red tabby Maine C**n has a stellar coat. While she can be a smidge grumpy for her groom she does let us get through it all. Look at that fantastic tabby marking!

Look at this gorgeous big boy! He's a Norwegian forest cat mix and while he's still under a year old... don't let his age fool you! He's already soooo long and tall! He's going to have a good amount of fluff too!

While he's all kitten coat still, his tail, pants, and chest are starting to fill out more. Did you know it can take a full 2 years for some of the forest cat breeds to grow into their adult coats? And up to 4 to be full grown?

He's already so regal, can you imagine what he'll be like in another couple years time!

It's amazing how resilient cats can be, even in the toughest situations. Alaric, along with a couple siblings were found with their deceased owner, who had passed away a few weeks prior. Sadly there was no access to food during this time so he was pretty emaciated.... making the process risky, but he was incredibly well-behaved throughout. We entered a grant competition and while I was super anxious to share this and have stewed for days trying to come up with the right words to write here...
