**Happy Valentine’s Day from! ❤️🐾**

Love is in the air, and that includes our furry friends! Here are a couple of pet-friendly Valentine’s Day tips:

🐶🍫 **Keep chocolate & sweets out of reach** – Many treats we love (like chocolate and xylitol-sweetened candies) can be toxic to pets. Stick to pet-safe treats instead!

🌹🐱 **Watch out for flowers** – Lilies, tulips, and even roses can be harmful to pets if ingested. Keep bouquets in a safe place!

Give your pets some extra snuggles today—they’re the real MVPs of unconditional love! 🐾💕

We are excited to announce another new veterinarian joining our practice!!

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Alyssa Richards!! 🎉

Dr. Richards grew up locally, graduating from Amherst High School. She then attended LCCC and graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s of Science. Vet school took Dr. Richards out of the country to Grenada in the Caribbean Islands at St. George’s University. Her clinical year was through Lincoln Memorial University, which brought her to Amherst Animal Hospital as an intern. Dr. Richards enjoyed her time here and knew that she wanted to join our team permanently.

Dr. Richard’s love for animals began at a young age, when she showed her first dog in a hunting trial at 9 years old. She continued to show in other American Kennel Club activities, like agility, rally, and confirmation. She continues to show and breed her Golden Retrievers.

She also enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, Stephen and his children, doing new things.

Dr. Richards looks forward to seeing our wonderful clients and patients!! ❤️🐾

🐾 Safety Reminder for All Pet Owners 🐾

To keep everyone safe:
✅ All dogs **MUST** be on a leash, even in the parking lot.
✅ All cats **MUST** be in a secure carrier.

For added safety, we kindly ask owners to avoid using retractable leashes. If this is your only option, we have slip leads available in our lobby for your convenience.

Thank you for helping us create a safe environment for your pets, other pets, and our team! 💕

🐾 As the temperatures drop below freezing, it’s important to ensure your furry family members stay safe and warm! Here are a few tips to help:

1. **Limit Outdoor Time** 🥶: Shorten walks and outdoor playtime to prevent frostbite on paws, ears, and tails.

2. **Bundle Up** 🧥: Consider a coat or sweater for pets with short fur or smaller breeds who are more sensitive to the cold.

3. **Check the Paws** 🐾: Salt and ice can irritate paw pads. Wipe your pet’s paws after walks and use pet-safe ice melt when possible.

4. **Warm Shelters** 🏡: Keep pets indoors where it’s warm. If pets must stay outside, ensure they have a well-insulated shelter with plenty of bedding.

5. **Watch for Antifreeze** ⚠️: This common cold-weather chemical is highly toxic to pets. Clean up any spills immediately.

Stay warm and safe this winter, and give your pets extra cuddles during these chilly months! 🐶🐱

🌟 **Wellness Wednesday Reminder!** 🌟

Your furry friends rely on you to keep them happy and healthy! 🐾 Annual veterinary exams are a vital part of their well-being. These check-ups help catch potential health issues early, ensure vaccinations are up to date, and provide a chance to discuss any concerns you have about their diet, behavior, or lifestyle.

💡 **Did you know?** Pets often hide signs of illness, so regular exams can uncover issues you might not notice at home.

Give your pet the gift of good health and a longer, happier life. Schedule their annual exam today! ❤️

The Los Angeles area is currently facing incredibly challenging times due to the devastating fires. Our hearts go out to everyone impacted, including the many furry companions affected by these events. 💔

Moments like these highlight the importance of being prepared—not just for yourself, but for your pets, too. Having a plan can make a world of difference in keeping everyone safe.

🐾 **A Simple Checklist for Pet Owners to Be Prepared:**

1️⃣ **Update Identification:**
- Make sure your pet’s ID tags are current with your contact information.
- If your pet isn’t microchipped, consider getting this done—it’s a permanent way to help them find their way home if separated.

2️⃣ **Prepare an Emergency Kit:**
- Include essentials like pet food, water, medications, and a comfort item like a blanket or toy.
- Add a collapsible food and water bowl for convenience.

3️⃣ **Have a Carrier or Leash Ready:**
- Ensure you have a sturdy carrier for small pets or a leash/harness for larger ones.
- Label the carrier with your contact info just in case.

4️⃣ **Plan Evacuation Routes:**
- Research pet-friendly shelters, hotels, or boarding facilities in your area.
- Keep a list of emergency contacts, including local animal shelters or veterinary clinics.

5️⃣ **Keep a Recent Photo Handy:**
- This can help identify your pet if you’re separated. Save a copy on your phone and have a printed version as well.

Your safety and your pets' safety are our top priorities. Stay safe, stay prepared, and let’s support each other through this difficult time. 💕
