The whole reason we decided to offer USCSS trials so many years ago was because of the GAMES!!!!! Not only are the games FUN, each game focuses on a particular skill or skills that every team needs to be successful while trialing in any organization at any level. It makes us sad that many competitors do not enter the games because they don't understand them. We have a solution for that - join us for the USCSS Games Workshop on Saturday, March 1st in Gasport, NY. Leading up to the workshop we will spotlight each game to give you a little more understanding of why you should play this game!

Let's talk about Copy Cat this week! Straight out of the USCSS Rule Book: Copy Cat works on several different skills, such as reading the search environment to plan where to release your dog, strategy from watching other competitors search, learning to be quiet and motionless while your dog is searching and for the dog to independently search.

All of that sounds great, right? If you want to try it out, register for the USCSS Games Workshop before all of the spots are full!! Registration can be found on the Workshops & Events page of our website.

Celebrate an early Valentine's Day by sniffing with your LOVE-ly pooch! Don't miss this opportunity to practice for trials or simply work in a new space with your dog. To add to the excitement, there will be prizes for top placements. A brief awards ceremony will be held at the end of the event, with a private shopping opportunity at Mel's K9 with refreshments for both humans and pups.

Held at Mel's K9 (9273 Main St, Clarence, NY 14031). This is a pet store and offers the opportunity to practice with some unique distractions, including toys, treats, and more.

This event will take place on Sunday, February 2nd from 12pm - 3pm. Registration can be found on the Workshops & Events page of our website.

Come play with us! The morning workshop is now full, but we still have a few working spots open for the afternoon, The Challenge of Distractors! Our dogs need to learn to work through whatever distractions may be in or near the search area and that when they get to odor, the party starts! If a dog has excellent odor obedience and trains with distractions often, trial searches will be a breeze. A dog with odor obedience will also be easy to train on distractors in containers. Distractors in the search area should be introduced early and often for teams to succeed in trials for all scent work organizations and levels of competition.

We hope you will join us! Registration is via our website on the "Workshops" page. Lunch is included.

Open to ALL!

In this webinar we will go over all of the things to think about OUTSIDE of training to prepare you for your next trial or ORT. You will learn what you can expect on a trial day and how you can best prepare for a fun day with your dog.

Lori will cover her list of frequently asked questions and then we will open the webinar up for all of YOUR questions. This webinar will be informal and participation is encouraged.

If you can't make the live webinar, no worries - it will be recorded! Participants who attend live will also receive the recorded version.

Register for this event via the DODT website in advance and a link to the webinar will be sent out a few days before the event for those participating live. The recorded version will go out to everyone the next day or on demand.

Who wants to have FUN while also teaching your dog some super important skills??? In this game we will work on send outs, directionals, recalls, fronts and finishes. And if you're not into the competition stuff - let's say working on getting really good recalls! Who couldn't use that, right? There is one spot available in our January 15th 1pm drop-in class. Snag it while you can :-)

Registration is via the Do Over Dog Training website.

If you've entered or are interested in entering our upcoming March USCSS trial, there appears to be a problem with the automated confirmation emails being sent - both to the competitors and to our trial secretary. If you've entered and haven't received any confirmation, contact our trial secretary at [email protected] and we'll figure it all out :-) There's still plenty of room in this trial and we would love to see you!

Two working spots left!!!

Is your team stumped by those close proximity hides? Maybe you get them...but after checking everything else in the search area and coming back? It’s never too early to train for multiple hides. We need our dogs to move on from a found hide without conflict and without getting in their way. We also need to introduce converging odor and close proximity hide puzzles to our dogs early and often so they learn how to solve those problems with confidence as they move up the levels of competition. In this workshop we will start with some basic games and handling skills and then put those skills into action in some multi-hide searches with coaching. This workshop would be appropriate for teams of all levels from beginners to advanced and the skills learned would be beneficial for trialing in all scent work organizations.
