Lisa is currently finishing her certification as an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning through PATH, Int’l. As a former western coach for two colleges, Shelby loves teaching riding and advancing horses. and Canada and taught lessons and trained horses of many breeds and disciplines. There are a few extra faces around the farm today… we are so tickled to be fostering some littles from Liberty Meadows Farm Sanctuary for a while. I mean… come on… look at these faces 🥰

The goats and piggies are just delightful, and they are tickled to have some fresh grass to graze on.

We are so thankful for this opportunity 🙌🏼

Piggies names are Pumpkin (top) and Turnip (bottom) 🐽🐽

Goats are Scotch, Peep, and the other two boys are in need of names still - any ideas?

As we pick ourselves up on this Monday morning, leaving space for sadness and reaching for all that is to come… we thought a little update would be fun ☺️

These working pens have sat for many years unused - for various reasons - but they have been a priority project for us over the last couple months and we are so tickled to have them up and running.

In the first few pictures you can see the overgrown areas (which were even after phase one of clearing) and some of the progression to getting them cleared, repaired and in working condition.

We have memories from about 20 years ago working on these pens and helping to put them up in frigid temperatures with biting wind - so it has been fitting that most of our remodel has taken place in similar temps, haha! 🥶

We are so grateful to those who have helped us out here in the last few weeks… our whole family has pitched in, plus our extended family- Priscilla, Leonard, Tim, Julia, Braxton, Anna, Joan, and Tatiana 🥰

Cows have been a part of this farm from the beginning, when our family purchased it in 1999. We had a break in those years somewhere, but we are so pleased to have a good minded little herd that is consistently producing top grade calves.

As we slowly build on our dreams for the future, we are making a genuine effort to not lose sight of the journey and how we are getting shaped in the process of it all. God is so faithful, so patient, and so merciful and gracious to His kids, and we are grateful to draw on that well daily here at CMF 💚

Clifford Clarence Rader…

The specials ones get middle names.

This one was one in a million 💙

Hopefully there is a special little bull calf cooking in one of the mama cows that can fill his shoes and carry on his legacy.

We will miss you Cliff…

Hard day to be a farmer… losing an animal is never easy. Thank you Louise for your extraordinary contributions to our family and to agriculture. You were such a sweet girl, and you left us an amazing calf to carry on your legacy ♥️

Making the decisions, doing the right thing, and keeping your heart soft through it all - it’s tough. We have poured so much into our herd, especially recently. This one hurts. But you turn on the headlights, bury what is now passed, and you keep trying hard to be the best steward of what you are given. But one thing remains - God is still good, all the time.

Just an update on Muffin… she is still perfect… the end 🥰

Our Story

Country Meadow Farm is a family owned farm with a solid foundation in safety and genuine horsemanship. We have built an educational environment that produces solid horses and riders. In addition to offering riding lessons and training, we are also home t0 the non-profit organization, Heaven Touching Earth. This organization allows us to offer equine assisted therapy and learning, as well as child and adult programs. Our heart is to offer those who come a little piece of “heaven touching earth” every time they step foot on the farm. We want to reflect the heart of God through relationships with horses and people. Please visit the Heaven Touching Earth page to learn more!

We offer a dynamic team of instructors, Haley Alger and Shelby (Turner) Rader. Haley served as CMF's intern for over a year before being offered a position at Sweet Briar College Riding Center as their East Wing Captain. Now pursuing her license as a message therapist, Haley continues to teach the beginner and intermediate lessons at CMF. She is so gifted with people and horses, so being a riding instructor is an obvious fit for Haley’s bubbling personality and genuine character. Haley also belongs to her equine partner, Buttercup.

Shelby Rader is an NCSU Certified open judge, and carded as a judge through the Open Horse Show Association. As a former western coach for two colleges, Shelby loves teaching riding and advancing horses. She has shown across the U.S. and Canada, and taught lessons and trained horses of various breeds and disciplines . Shelby is also an active participant in the Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA). She serves on their national marketing and membership committee, as well as being a Regional Director. After completing her Equine Facility Manager Certification through CHA, she completed her riding instructor certification in both English and Western.

Emily Perrotta is the newest addition to the CMF team and Heaven Touching Earth! She brings an extensive skill set to the table including but not limited to experience with trauma victims, relational work with at-risk youth, administrative leadership, and a graduate of the CMF internship program. We are thrilled to have her and look forward to the many ways she will be a part of our future!
