Many sales end with Britta accompanying the purchased horse on the transport flight. Foremost, Britta Johnston is a teacher who displays an uncanny skill in evaluating riders and her consistent and confident teaching bring out the best in both horse and rider.

DRESSAGE TRIVIA!!!
Do you know the WHY you shouldn't ride too close up against the wall?🤔
There are a few different technical reasons why, but let's keep it simple! ...
What is the most basic, fundamental, reason why you should NOT glue your horse to the rail or wall?
The answer is simply that your horse WILL NOT BE STRAIGHT if you do...

Why🧐???
Because your horse's hips are wider than its shoulders!

Still lost?

You see, we riders tend to do things and make decisions based on what we see, rather than what we feel. So sitting atop a horse, we have a perfect view of the head, neck and shoulders. So most riders will form their track along the wall by placing the shoulders in the line of desired travel. And then we just assume that the haunches are following the shoulders in an orderly fashion. But the haunches simply cannot follow the shoulders squarely when the shoulders are placed too close to the wall because the haunches don't have enough room!

A horse will not willingly scrape its outside hip against the wall in the name of holy straightness 😉
If you ride your horse with its outside shoulder and outside hip straight up against the wall, or a few inches from it, you may feel like you are riding perfectly straight. But what is really happening is that half of your horse is straight with the wall, but the other half is lost.

The haunches are basically falling in, so the inside hind leg is not tracking under the body as it should be. You see, the inside hind is CRUCIAL for your ride. You want to be able to influence it and keep it reaching under the horse's body. Don't let it float into outer space!

So, be mindful of where you are placing your line of travel. Just think about staying a bit more off the wall so the haunches can follow the shoulders.

Holly and Icy, Lindsey and Hymne MVF DID IT!

These dressage newbies came to wonderful Karen Kissler less than two years ago to learn dressage. In no time Karen realized that she did not have the suitable horses for these two extremely motivated, yet very inexperienced dressage riders and asked me to take over the training.

And so we trained…and trained…and trained…
They showed up again and again….

430AM? No problem.
Lesson at 6am- all skin in the game.
Evening training after long days in their professions and mine? Here we go…
Bring it on…

They juggled travels, business meeting, exercises, whipping up a masters, ACL surgery…jaja all that- and back to training!

In less than 12 months, these two powerhouses trained into an upright position, learned to correctly use the seat, were told often to apologize to their horses, and rode plenty without stirrups-and never complained!

This past weekend both saddled the mares and successfully claimed both scores at 2nd level towards their USDF Bronze Medal.

Amazing people don’t just happen!
I am honored to be your trainer and can not thank Karen enough to steer them this way.

Lorraine Evans picked up her horses after winter training at MVF and we will miss her and her horses Disco and perfect Lady Tess.
As Lorraine went through the judges program, she coached all of us to ready ourselves for show season! It was a fun winter filled with learning and progressing.

Good morning from Mountain Vista Farm!

While Quirine is taking her well deserved day off, Eila of Zia Equestrian and senior dog Lilly are taking over today to feed and attend to the horses.

Eila will be training on Hymne MVF (Johnston x Ferro)later today to practice seat work, collection, half passes, and flying changes in preparation for fourth level.
She received her USDF Bronze medal this year at 15 yrs old and is working towards the Silver medal.
