We’ve ignored the rumors.

We choose to focus on the animals and the future.

But the rumors keep spreading.

So here are the facts.

β€”β€”β€”

πŸ—£οΈ CLAIM 1: Amory Humane Society has refused to work with the city to find a solution to the contract issues. We are being uncooperative.

πŸ—£οΈ CLAIM 2: The city did not receive a β€œhard number” until after their budget was set.

πŸ“ THE FACTS: Below is a timeline.

β€”β€”β€”

TIMELINE OF 2024 CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS

[Note: This comes after years of previous unfruitful negotiations. Our situation had become desperate β€” with ever-increasing animals and costs, and the city still allotting only $55,000 a year.]

πŸ“JUNE 5: We emailed Mayor Corey Glenn to request a budget meeting.

Excerpt: "As a new board, we would like to start off with a good working relationship and be open and transparent. What's the best way for us to have this discussion? Should we meet with you solo first, or invite aldermen β€” or even make a presentation to the Board? Please let us know what works best for you, and we'd be happy to accommodate."

The mayor’s office called and requested a meeting.

πŸ“JUNE 19: At this meeting, executive director Misty Daniels and board member Leigh Ann Hubbard presented a six-page proposal to Mayor Glenn. Also in attendance: city attorney Sam Griffie.

This proposal included hard numbers.

⭐️‼️ NOTE: A link to the proposal is in the comments. Please read if interested!! ‼️⭐️

πŸ“ JUNE 24: As requested, we emailed the mayor the proposal, which he had said he would email to the aldermen. From our message: "You're welcome to share it with anyone you like."

We received no response.

πŸ“ JULY 2: At an official board of aldermen meeting, we presented the proposal. We were allotted three minutes, on a timer. (It was a holiday week.) We were informed that the aldermen had not previously received the proposal.

πŸ“ JULY 9: As requested, we emailed the proposal again, this time to the mayor's assistant.

πŸ“ AUGUST 14: After not having heard anything from the mayor or aldermen, we emailed Mayor Glenn and city clerk Jamie Morgan.

"We wanted to check in and see how budget discussions are going. Have you and the board had time to look over and discuss our contract proposal? Do you have any further questions? We know the end of the fiscal year is nearing and y'all are going to be finalizing the budget, so we wanted to check in to see if you have need anything more."

We received no response.

πŸ“ SEPTEMBER 12: We emailed Mayor Glenn and Jamie Morgan. "As the fiscal year nears, we wanted to check in on the contract and budget proposal. We do need to renegotiate, unless the city has decided to meet the budget, because we can't continue operating on this amount with this many animals. Would you like to meet again, or has the board decided to move forward with our proposal?"

The mayor’s office called and requested a meeting.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

THE CITY’S DECISION

πŸ“ SEPTEMBER 19: Executive director Misty Daniels and board member Leigh Ann Hubbard met with Mayor Glenn, Alderman Glenn Bingham, city clerk Jamie Morgan and city attorney Sam Griffie.

We were informed that the board of aldermen had voted. (We had not been told they would be voting.)

Their decision was to not raise the amount. They added a $10,000 stipend for insurance β€” with the requirement that we hold insurance on the city’s buildings.

⭐️ Mayor Glenn stated multiple times during this private meeting that this decision was final and there would be no negotiation. ⭐️

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

ENDING THE CONTRACT

Severing the contract with the city was the last resort we did not want. 😞

After the mayor assured us the city would not budge, we reached out to you, as well as to contacts around the country β€” beating the bushes for any answer to fund this desperately needed shelter.

In the end, though support came swiftly, from many people, no long-term solution was imminent.

On November 21, we sent our 30-day notice that we would be ending the contract.

β€”β€”β€”β€”

❓THE LATEST RUMOR❓

The latest claim is that we were invited to a board of aldermen meeting two weeks ago and didn’t attend. This is being used to support the idea that we’re uncooperative. Here are the facts:

A. We were invited to the meeting β€” the day before.

B. Two AHS board members were sick, and a third was recovering from illness.

C. The mayor had previously made clear that there would be no negotiation, and we had already sent the severance letter. In less than three weeks, the contract would end, after months of attempts at negotiation.

If officials had ideas for a solution, they were welcome to send us their proposal.

We have yet to receive any proposal β€” or any further communication.

β€”β€”β€”β€”

THE GOOD NEWS

We are committed to continuing to serve animals and people. πŸ’— We’re excited about what the future holds! There are all sorts of possibilities.

We’ll be determining next steps in the new year. We welcome your ideas and input!

Let’s move forward in a positive light, πŸ’‘ with the animals first and foremost. That’s what matters.

Any questions?

More than 40 families came β€” from one pet and their human to couples with furbabies to families with kids whose eyes lit up meeting Santa.

GRAND TOTAL: You donated almost $600 β€” nearly twice what we normally expect!

OUR OWN HALLMARK CHRISTMAS MOVIE

What did you think of the festive, spacious set-up Walton's Greenhouse in Amory gave us?

Phebe Sheffield and her welcoming team decorated the entire scene. They even set up a photo area with no Santa, in case that worked best for some people.

The whole space was fun, elegant and thoughtful. It was perfect!

PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS

Did you know that Rayne with Grace photography by Cameal Garrett VOLUNTEERED her time to take the photos?

So generous! Please check out her page and keep her in mind for your photography needs. Her work is heirloom worthy.

(The pictures below are not hers β€” LOL! Participants will be emailed a link to hers this week.)

STUDENT CHEFS

For the FIRST time ever …

Student volunteers brought homemade treats and pup cups as fundraisers! 🦴🍦

This was the brainchild of Ms. Jennifer Terrell. She reached out and made it happen β€” even baking pumpkin and sweet potatoes from scratch to use in the healthy treats.

Students from Hamilton FFA and special education made the treats in school. Then FFA students volunteered at Santa Paws, with Ms. Terrell.

Their hard work helped us get to that record-breaking total!

πŸŽ…πŸΎ
And of course, thank you to Tony Dill for connecting us with Santa Claus. We appreciate Santa carving out time for pets in the thick of the season. Taking photos with dogs for four hours has to be tiring! πŸ™ƒ

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

Your donation will help us continue to make pets’ lives better. We hope you love your photo and cherish it for years to come.

Merry Christmas!

Momma Bear (first picture) and her friends thank you from the bottom of their hearts for helping them stay warm and fueled up for the cold.

πŸ’— You have donated $1,209 in 24 hours. 😲 We’re speechless.

πŸ’— Tractor Supply Co. donated propane for the heaters.

πŸ’— You’ve brought lots of blankets and sheets and sent much-needed canned Purina Puppy Chow.

Your willingness to step up and take action when we asked is making an immediate impact.

β€”β€”-

Also pictured are donations from the last few weeks that we hadn’t shouted out yet:

πŸ’— Some of the donations you’ve from our Chewy wish list.

πŸ’— A shipment from Dallas, and we don’t even know who it’s from!

πŸ’— So many boxes of canned cat food we lost count, donated from Cedarhill Animal Sanctuary.

πŸ’— A huge donation from our friends at Walmart Amory.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

Your support not only helps animals now but helps us carry on, knowing that there are people who care.

Thank you.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

We’re facing another cold winter in outdoor kennels. πŸ˜”

We’re doing the best we can but need blankets and funds for propane β€” $30 to $60 a day.

Can you spare a few dollars to help warm the innocent dogs stuck in this situation? πŸ”₯

If you have blankets (used is fine), please leave them on the porch at the damaged shelter: 1317 Old Hwy. 6.

Canned Purina Puppy Chow is also needed.

Thank you for caring and helping. πŸ’™
