BEWARE OF CHOCOLATE POISONING AT HALLOWEEN 🍫👻

In anticipation of Halloween, securing chocolate out of reach of dogs and familiarity with chocolate poisoning symptoms is imperative. Chocolate’s theobromine and caffeine content makes it detrimental to canine health, as dogs slowly process these stimulants, thereby intensifying toxic repercussions.

Here are the reasons why chocolate is harmful to dogs:

☠️Theobromine Toxicity: Theobromine is present in varying amounts in different types of chocolate, with higher concentrations found in dark chocolate and cocoa powder. Theobromine can stimulate the central nervous system, leading to symptoms like increased heart rate, restlessness, and seizures in dogs. In severe cases, it can even be fatal.

💀Caffeine Toxicity: Caffeine can cause similar symptoms to theobromine toxicity, such as increased heart rate, tremors, and hyperactivity.

☠️Gastrointestinal Distress: Even in smaller amounts, chocolate can lead to gastrointestinal issues in dogs, including vomiting and diarrhea.
Chocolate toxicity in dogs can vary depending upon the dog’s size and the type and quality of the chocolate ingested. Small dogs are more vulnerable to chocolate toxicity than larger dogs because it takes less toxins to cause harm. The darker and more bitter the chocolate, the more dangerous it is to dogs.

What are the signs of chocolate poisoning?🍫

The most common clinical signs are vomiting, diarrhea, increased thirst, panting or restlessness, excessive urination, and racing heart rate. In severe cases, symptoms can include muscle tremors, seizures, and heart failure. Complications such as developing aspiration pneumonia from vomiting, can make the prognosis for chocolate poisoning worse. When in doubt, immediate treatment by your veterinarian is recommended if a poisonous amount of chocolate is ingested.
The signs of chocolate poisoning can take hours to develop.
It is important to call your Veterinarian if your dog has eaten chocolate so that we can help you monitor your dog and provide medical attention if needed. Happy and healthy Halloween to all! ☠️😈💀🎃

“We said goodbye to our sweet Evie two weeks ago and I couldn't be more grateful to Dr. Daniela to help us through the process.
Saying goodbye to our pets is an extremely emotional and sensitive experience. At home pet euthanasia with Dr Daniella is 100% the right choice.
My Evie was still very alert even though her body was failing. It was really hard to make the decision to help her over the rainbow bridge. Dr. Daniella supported us over the course of 4 weeks, often chatting with us over texts on any quality of life questions we may have.
On the day of, Evie had a great morning and was taking her morning nap when Dr.
Daniella came. She gave us lots of time and was so gentle that when it was finally time, Evie didn't notice at all and just drifted to sleep so peacefully. We took our pets to the vet before for euthanasia and at home euthanasia is a completely different and 1000x better experience.
Dr. Daniella was also super accommodating when it came to the after care/crematory process. She answered any questions we had patiently and anticipated our needs. Dr.
Daniella's personalized service is 100% recommended. For such an emotional experience, I can't imagine dealing with corporate organization”

“Dr. Lutri is wonderful!! Unfortunately, my family required her services twice within a year, both with my family dog of 14 years, and my own sweetest 4year old kitty who endured many battles throughout his short life.
My first experience with Dr. Lutri and my family dog
Argus, she was very kind, communicative and compassionate, my family had never had to put down an animal, let alone within their presence so it was very difficult for us. Dr. Lutri asked us about our baby and his life and made sure to talk us through every step of the way.
Letting go was not easy but she left my family with a sense of relief knowing he was well taken care of until the very end. After this first experience I knew I would use her services again when it came time for my baby boy Milo.
Unfortunately, that time came sooner than we would have liked. Once again Dr.Lutri shared her compassion and talked us through every step of the way allowing us as much time as we needed before saying goodbye.
She was so kind to let us say our final goodbyes in his favorite place in our backyard. As hard has letting go is and continues to be, I feel a huge weight lifted off my shoulders knowing we had someone who truly cares help our babies cross rainbow bridge.

A COMPASSIONATE GOODBYE IS A GIFT FOR YOUR PET 🤍

If you ask any human, most will say they’d like to eventually pass peacefully in their beds while they sleep. Why would anything be different for our pets? Providing your pet with a calm, controlled environment during death is perhaps one of the most compassionate gifts you can give them. In many cases, the decision to euthanize is itself a remarkable act of selflessness. Carrying out the euthanasia process at home where the pet is most comfortable is another way to ease the transition. This feels great to say and it’s been a long time coming✨

I’m originally from Argentina, South America, I’ve always been passionate about animals. As a child, I remember drawing a picture of myself with a little dog on a table, wanting to help it. After completing six years of vet school abroad, I pursued my dream of becoming licensed in the United States. Since graduating, I have been practicing as a general practitioner and relief doctor, providing assistance to hospitals around the LA/OC area.
In 2020, I completed my DVM education from ECFVG, after earning my degree from the National University of Rio Cuarto in 2004. A few years ago, I faced the difficult decision of euthanizing my own beloved pet Lyla after she was hit by a car. This experience gave me a deeper understanding of the sorrow and pain that pet parents go through when making the same decision for their furry friends 💔
My empathy towards animals and their families led me to begin offering in-home euthanasia services, where I can provide support to pet owners during their pets’ last moments 🙏 Unlike the appointments at busy hospitals and clinics where time is limited, my in-home services allow me to give support throughout the process ✨
