We have some big news at PET Emergency Treatment 📢

Dr. Walton, our long-time double-boarded internal medicine and critical care specialist has transitioned out of Alaska. Dr. Walton has been instrumental in introducing specialty medicine to our community. His innovation and expertise at PET ER have made a lasting impact. We are deeply grateful for his years of dedicated service and wish him the best in his future endeavors, he will be missed!

The internal medicine service continues to provide exceptional care to the pets of Alaska. Dr. Ashley Melco DVM, DACVIM (SAIM) has joined the PET team as a board-certified small animal internal medicine specialist. Dr. Melco is originally from Minnesota and has been residing in Alaska over the last year! She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA. She completed her internship at North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine and a small animal internal medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Veterinary Teaching Hospital. She has a passion for teaching and mental health within the veterinary profession. In her free time, she enjoys all Alaska has to offer - hiking, fishing, ice climbing, and trail running with her dog Vasu!

CDC has upcoming changes for traveling internationally with pets, this includes driving through CANADA & back into the US. These changes are effective August 1, 2024.

Starting on August 1, 2024, dogs entering or returning to the United States must meet new, specific requirements depending on where they have been in the 6 months before entering the U.S. and where they received their rabies vaccines (if required).
