APD seeks public's help solving equipment theft case

The Andalusia Police Department is seeking the public’s help with information about thefts that occurred this past weekend at Sunsouth LLC, the local John Deer dealership.

Chief Paul Hudson said some time between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning, thieves cut the fence between Sunsouth and Eye Center South and took six industrial lawnmowers, a stand-on Wacker Neuson, and other items. The estimated value of the stolen goods topped $100,000, he said.

Hudson said the APD is asking any resident who saw suspicious activity, or might have seen the equipment being hauled out of town, contact investigators at the APD at 334-222-1155.

Anyone with information also may contact CrimeStoppers using the 24-hour tip line at 215-STOP (7867).

AFTERNOON UPDATE, THURSDAY, JANUARY 23, 2025

The City of Andalusia will begin to reopen at noon on Friday, January 24.

City Hall, Utilities offices, the Andalusia Public Library, Municipal Court, and the Adult Activity Center will be open from noon until 5 p.m. on Friday. Johnson Park and the Evans Barnes Golf Course will remain closed on Friday.

There will be no meals served at or delivered from the Adult Activity Center on Friday. Meals will resume on Monday.

Garbage and trash services will resume on Monday morning and will operate on regular schedules.

City streets will remain open overnight, but the Andalusia Police Department advises residents to use extreme caution, as there are still some icy patches that will freeze again overnight.

Chief Paul Hudson also reminds local residents that golf carts and ATVs are not legal on city streets. If stopped, these vehicles can be towed.

Our Public Works Department is working to make city streets passable. If you must travel this afternoon, please use extreme caution.

JANUARY 23, 2025 MORNING UPDATE

The City of Andalusia will begin gradually reopening city streets at noon today, Thursday, Jan. 23.

While the condition of city streets has improved dramatically in the last 24 hours, there are still pockets that are frozen and dangerous.

If residents need to check on their businesses or friends and family members this afternoon, we encourage you to use extreme caution while doing so.

City officials will reeconvene at 4 p.m. today to reassess conditions and finalize tentative plans to reopen some city functions on Friday. It appears increasingly likely that garbage services will resume on Monday, as garbage has frozen in the hobos, complicating collections.

Watch for updates late this afternoon.
