JANUARY 23, 2025 MORNING UPDATE
The City of Andalusia will begin gradually reopening city streets at noon today, Thursday, Jan. 23.
While the condition of city streets has improved dramatically in the last 24 hours, there are still pockets that are frozen and dangerous.
If residents need to check on their businesses or friends and family members this afternoon, we encourage you to use extreme caution while doing so.
City officials will reeconvene at 4 p.m. today to reassess conditions and finalize tentative plans to reopen some city functions on Friday. It appears increasingly likely that garbage services will resume on Monday, as garbage has frozen in the hobos, complicating collections.
Watch for updates late this afternoon.

All of us can help keep utilities prices lower by delaying the use of appliances to "off peak" times. In the winter, that means not doing laundry, using your dishwasher or stove between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m.
Turn off unneeded lights and electronics, like gaming systems, and consider lowering your thermostat by a few degrees.
It may not seem like much, but when you and other consumers take these simple steps to reduce power use during peak times, it helps even out the need for electricity. Most importantly, you’ll be doing your part to keep power costs as low as possible, not just for you but for all consumers. That’s a win-win!
Happy New Year!
Happy Thanksgiving, and Welcome! To all who are visiting from out of town.
Christmas in Candyland does not officially open until next week, but these fabulous cottages on the Square are open and ready for visitors. Stop by and let your little ones burn off some of that “I had too many rolls” energy.
The lights also are all up, so it should be a lovely evening to drive or stroll through town.

Andalusia offers a wide selection of restaurants ranging from your favorite fast food franchises to traditional southern cuisine and award winning barbecue. Our Dairy Queen, located just off the historic town square, is one of the last six original Dairy Queens in the United States.
Annual events in Andalusia include the World Championship Domino Tournament that takes place annually in July. December’s Candyland offers children young and old a chance to explore the Candyland cottages and enjoy local shopping.
If the kids and pets need a break from the car, visit one of our city, state, or national parks. The Conecuh National Forest with its Open Pond and Blue Lake Recreation areas offers hiking and biking trails through long leaf pine forests, wildflowers, and shady glens. A full hookup RV site is located at Open Pond. The LBW Walking Trail winds through the beautiful woods surrounding the Lurleen B. Wallace Community College campus and 9-hole Evans Barnes Golf Course.
