💛 Understanding Our Protocol for Stray Cats 💛
At Magnolia Veterinary Hospital, our hearts go out to every animal brought through our doors—especially the lost and vulnerable. We know how difficult it can be to find a stray cat and not know what to do next. That’s why we want to share some important information about how we handle these situations, with compassion and responsibility.
🩺 Every Life Deserves Proper Care
All stray cats are evaluated by a licensed veterinarian to assess injuries, illness, and overall health. This ensures each animal receives treatment based on medical needs and professional judgment.
🐾 If You Find a Stray...
We kindly ask that Good Samaritans remain on-site during the evaluation. Unfortunately, we cannot accept animals dropped off without an adult present to provide vital information and consent.
🚨 Emergency Care Comes First
Just like in any ER, we triage strays based on the urgency of their condition, so the most critical cases are cared for immediately.
💔 When Humane Euthanasia Is Considered
In tragic cases where a stray cat is suffering and recovery isn’t possible, euthanasia may be the most compassionate option. These decisions are made with the utmost care, based on veterinary standards and ethics.
If the cat is healthy and stable, euthanasia will not be performed, as our veterinarians are bound to act in accordance with professional and legal guidelines.
🏡 What We Can—and Can’t—Do
We are happy to assist by scanning for a microchip to help identify and contact the owner. This service is quick and free of charge. If the pet is not microchipped or the owner cannot be identified, we recommend reaching out to your local animal control agency or humane society for further assistance.
As a private practice, we aren’t equipped to house or rehome strays long-term. While individual team members may occasionally choose to foster or adopt, this is done on a personal basis—not as a hospital offering.
🌱 Community Care Takes a Village
We encourage anyone who finds a stray to reach out to local animal control agencies, municipal shelters and nearby humane societies. These organizations are better equipped to provide shelter, rehabilitation, and adoption pathways.
We’re here to offer medical support and guidance—and we’re grateful for every person who shows compassion to animals in need. 💕 Thank you for helping care for our community's most vulnerable pets.
