You’ve probably seen Bixby on our page a few times already, but we think he’s just that awesome to be featured again! 😉 Being Pet of the Week is no small feat, but Bixby handled it like a champ. 💕

His day started bright and early with a stroll before the sun even came up, followed by a ride in the van to meet some new friends. Bixby spent the next few hours making appearances on four different radio stations, showing off his super chill, cuddly personality. At 4 years old, Bixby was great on the leash—only pulling a couple of times when something smelled too interesting (like trash cans with food wrappers 🤣). He was friendly with everyone, always seeking some pets, but his heart truly belongs to his handler. ❤ Bixby is the kind of dog who would happily spend the whole day curled up in your lap if he could. Even with his cautious nature, he loved exploring the world and showed us that he’d thrive in just about any home with his low energy needs.

Bixby isn’t too interested in toys—he’s all about you. The shelter environment has been a bit overwhelming for him, and if you see him in his kennel, he might seem like just "another barking dog." But get him out of his kennel, and you’ll experience the magic of meeting this lovable, laid-back dog for the first time! ❗ The Dogs Are Counting On Us—Will You Step Up and Foster? ❗

Friends, we are reaching out with a vital plea— our shelter is full of wonderful dogs who need your help. Fostering is one of the most important ways you can make a difference in their lives.

By opening your home to one of our dogs, you are offering them a break from the stress and uncertainty of shelter life. Home environments provide them with safety, routine, and the opportunity to learn valuable skills, which will help them find their forever family. 🏡

We often get questions like, "How does this dog do with other pets? With kids?" Since many of our dogs arrive as strays, we don’t always have answers about their pasts. But when they’re in foster homes, we learn so much about their personalities, preferences, and behavior. This information is crucial to help match them with the right adopters, and it’s something you, a foster parent, can provide.

We provide all of our foster families with food, supplies, and medical care for our animals. What we ask in return is that you offer a stable, loving environment. Send us photos and updates on your foster dog to share on our website. Bring them by our PetSmart Adoption Kiosk at least once a week so they can meet potential adopters.

We understand that fostering is a big commitment, but we promise to support you every step of the way. Whether you have experience or this is your first time fostering, we’re here for you. Our dogs come in all shapes, sizes, and personalities—puppies, seniors, active dogs, and those who prefer quiet time on the couch. There’s a perfect match for everyone.

We understand not everyone can foster, and that’s okay! If you can’t, please help us spread the word. Share our incredible dogs with your friends, family, and coworkers. Every little thing makes a difference.

🐾 Senior Spotlight: Rosemary & Tobias are ready to show you that love only gets better with age! 💕

🐾 8-year-old Rosemary is a sweet senior girl who deserves so much more than being stuck in her kennel. At just 30 lbs, she's the perfect size for any home, but the shelter environment has left her scared and unsure. Once you get her out of the kennel, her true personality shines through. She’s an incredibly loving, cuddly companion and a MAJOR foodie! She’s easy on the leash and ready to shower her new family with affection. All she needs is a second chance in a peaceful, loving home.

🐶 Tobias is a big, goofy boy who will bring joy and laughter to anyone lucky enough to have him! At 7 years old and weighing around 70 lbs, Tobias may be large, but he carries himself with grace and ease. His goofy personality is impossible to miss—he’s full of energy, always ready for a good time, and he’s sure to make you smile with his silly antics. Tobias is incredibly well-mannered, smart, and eager to please, making him an absolute joy to be around. He loves treats and has been soaking up new commands from our volunteer dog-walkers.

While we’re not sure how either Rosemary or Tobias does with cats or other dogs, we believe both of these sweet seniors would be great fits for most homes! As seniors, their adoption fees are ✨fully sponsored✨, so there’s no cost to bring either of them into your family.

🐾 It's with Twix! 🐾

This gorgeous, one-year-old pittie mix is full of energy and joy, and she’s living her best life! 💖 After coming to Haven underweight and with some cuts and bruises, Twix has made an incredible transformation. With love and care, she’s gained the weight she needed, and her boo-boos are all healed up! 🎉

Now, Twix is ready to take on the world with her beautiful, glistening coat and endless enthusiasm. She LOVES her treats and is always up for a good play session. She’s the happiest girl, full of positivity, and just wants to run around and have fun!

💕 Adoption Update! 💕

Adopter Dorothy shares with us an update on Kirby, adopted in November, after spending over 150 days with us at Haven:

“We chose to keep the name Kirby for our new furry friend, and he has truly been a delight since the moment he arrived in our home. His playful nature shines through as he eagerly gathers around the TV, particularly captivated by the colorful antics of "Clifford the Big Red Dog." Although we’ve provided him with a cozy and plush bed of his own, he seems to have taken a liking to the soft embrace of our couch, where he often lounges in comfort.

One of the highlights of Kirby's wardrobe is the adorable sweater we purchased for him. He struts proudly during our neighborhood walks, as if showcasing his fashionable look to the world. Each morning, without fail, he finds his way onto my lap, soaking up the warmth while I savor my coffee—those moments are simply priceless.

Since his arrival, Kirby has only had one little accident in the house, and impressively, he figured out how to get our attention quickly when he needs to go outside. His cleverness and charm have made him the perfect addition to our family, filling our lives with joy. We feel incredibly honored and grateful that he chose us as his forever home.”

Update: Tatum has been adopted!

🐾 Tatum is basically a real-life heart-eyed emoji! 😍✨

This beautiful 1-year-old pup is what we guess to be a Bull Terrier/Shar-Pei mix, but no matter what her exact mix is, one thing is for sure: she's absolutely gorgeous inside and out!

Tatum was recently adopted but was returned after not getting along with the resident cat. That’s okay, though! We were able to learn a lot about her while she was in a home. Tatum is great with kids, and she’s already house-trained! 🙌 Her previous family said she was an amazing dog, but sometimes things just don’t work out—and now she gets to spend more time with us at Haven! 🏡

Tatum recently participated in our Dog Play Group and had a blast with another shelter dog, chasing and playing together beautifully! We think she’d do well with another lively dog in the home, too.

Best of all, Tatum’s adoption fee is ONLY $25!

💔 Tandi’s Been Waiting Over 6 Months—Help Us Get Our Longest Resident Into a Foster Home! 💖

Meet Tandi, our longest resident at the shelter. This sweet 2.5-year-old Lab/Pit mix has been waiting patiently for over six months—since July—to find the right person to call her own. Tandi has been overlooked time and time again, and we just can’t understand why. To us, she is PERFECT. 💖

Tandi is the definition of a loyal companion. She doesn’t just want a home; she wants a person—someone she can bond with and love wholeheartedly. 🐶❤️ Tandi will be your biggest fan.

One of Tandi’s greatest joys is playing fetch. She LOVES the ball and has some serious zoomies when she’s out in the play yard! 🏃‍♀️🎾 She could chase the ball for the rest of her days and she'd be perfectly content!💕

Tandi has spent lots of time at our PetSmart adoption kiosk and has done AMAZING. She handles meeting new people with ease, loads up into the van on her own, and stays calm in busy environments. 🙌

Tandi’s ideal home would be one without small animals (no cats, rodents, or small dogs). She would prefer to be the only dog in the household. While she ignores other dogs at the shelter and is great with people, Tandi wants to be the queen of her castle and the one and only companion to her person. 👑🐕

One of our staff members says: "She loves butt scratches and being as close to you as humanly possible. She would crawl under my skin if I let her. She is going to bond so hard with her person, they just need to give her a chance. She grunts and groans when she cuddles into you, she is so precious. She will probably do best as the only dog in the household. I think she will do fine with kids as long as they are respectful."

We provide necessary supplies and medical care to all our foster parents, all you need to do is provide a stable environment and lots of love! 💕

This Pet of the Week is truly out of this world 😉 👩‍🚀

2 year old, Hubble, is an amazing example of how much can be accomplished with lots of love and patience. Hubble came to us as a stray about 2 months ago with a female dog (who has since been adopted). The moment he arrived, he liked getting pets but just about everything else terrified him. Being in a strange building, getting weighed (scales can be pretty scary though 🤪) and trying to walk on a leash were almost impossible for Hubble- who essentially had to be carried to a kennel- all 80 lbs of him! Hubble had no knowledge of how to “dog”. The shelter environment can be very loud and overwhelming, and Hubble was very shut down by it all. It took us a couple of weeks to gain his trust enough to start teaching him how to walk on a leash but he gradually got there and was able to come up to the adoption center. 💕

Through the efforts of staff and volunteers, Hubble now walks on a leash like a pro (and is very gentle for how big he is!) and we have even seen him gain an interest in toys! His favorites are plushie toys that he can toss up in the air and catch. 🥰 Throughout his entire stay with us, Hubble has been a gentle giant who enjoys leaning up against you for pets and comfort. When he isn’t getting cuddles, Hubble loves to lounge at your feet and sprawl out. We know Hubble will be a fantastic dog for any family who has a *little* extra space, and an understanding that the best things in life often take time. 💜❤️
