AKC Scent Work - Water Search: The recommendation was approved by AKC Board of Directors to eliminate the scented cotton swab held in tubing affixed to bottom of the box and instead dropping the cotton swab into the water and letting it sink to the bottom. Field testing proved this was effective and did not compromise the challenge to the dog. Effective October 1, 2025.
This was information reported to the AKC Herding, Earthdog, Lure Coursing, Scent Work and Fast Cat Committee, Monday Sept 8th.

NEWS FROM AKC. SCENT WORK - DOGS with COLORING. AKC Board of Directors voted to approve a change to the Regulations for AKC Scent Work, to allow dogs with coat coloring to participate in Scent Work trials. The change is effective September 1, 2025

News from AKC - SCENT WORK - REVISED SPEC ON BURIED SEARCHES. The AKC Board of Director voted to approve a change to the Regulation for AKC Scent Work on the amount of sand that must be used in Buried Classes as well as redefine what constitutes a "scent vessel" for Buried Classes where sand is the substrate, to use one inch of sand covering the scent vessel. The scent vessel can range from one inch to two inches. The change is effective October 1, 2025.

NEWS FROM AKC. FAST CAT - Public Display of Run Time. The AKC Board of Directors voted to approve the addition of a regulation to the Coursing Ability Test (CAT) and Fast CAT Regulations to require clubs to publicly post the run time of each dog during a Fast CAT event. Effective October 1, 2025

Our Story

The Anderson Obedience Training Club, Inc has offered obedience classes to the public since 1944. Our classes are structured to teach pet owners “HOW TO TRAIN and GAIN CONTROL” of their dog. Our instructors have experience in training their own dogs, and different breeds, attending workshops to maintain and improve their skills in obedience training. We also have members who are approved to judge American Kennel Club Licensed Events.

The Anderson Obedience Training Club, meets every Tuesday, from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Classes are held in the Indiana National Guard Armory, 125 S. Scatterfield Rd., Anderson, IN. Classes offered for Kindergarten Puppy Training/American Kennel Club S.T.A.R. puppy classes and Beginners Basic/American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen (CGC) classes and enrolls classes every 5 weeks. The club also offers advanced training in AKC Obedience, AKC Rally, AKC Scent Work, and AKC Trick Dog classes. The Anderson Obedience Training Club also has eligible AKC Family Dog ( S.T.A.R. Puppy, CGC, CGCA, Urban, and etc.) evaluators who can administer the testing for the AKC Family Dog titles. Public is invited (without their dogs) to visit the classes any Tuesday evening.
