GEN 111 Farm

GEN 111 Farm Growing food for our family and friends and as a demonstration garden for those who want to get into gardening.

Gen 111 stands for Genesis 1:11, which says "Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so." We don't know where this project is going, but are looking to the Lord to lead us. At a minimum, we want to grow quality organic produce for our immediate family, as well as have s

ome available for sale to a small group of locals that want fresh produce. We also want to be a place where people can come see how easy it is to grow food, and with the simple technique of wood chip gardening, they can produce great results with no experience.

Lots of good taste testing today with friends- cherries (Evans Bali, Sweet Cherry Pie, Nanking), gooseberries, red currants, and a few straggler juneberries and honeyberries.

Lots of Nanking cherries coming in if you want to try them! They are small but sweet. Sweeter than pie cherries.

Prepping an area to plant more aronia and juneberry bushes. I tilled it at least five times in the fall to bring the thistle roots to the surface to freeze them, then use the landscape rake to level it out and prepare to plant grass seed. I’m hoping to get some aronia plants in next.

Here is a photo dump since I haven’t been posting much! Due to a variety of factors- including a solid composting around the trees and bushes and better weather, we’re seeing huge crops all around with cherries, plums, pears, serviceberries/juneberries, aronia/chokeberries, and others. I have five apple trees with some apples if I can keep them going until ripe.

Our Story

Gen 1:11 stands for Genesis 1:11, which says "Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so." We want to grow quality, better-than-organic produce for our immediate family, as well as have some available for sale to a small group of locals that want fresh produce. We also want to be a place where people can come see how easy it is to grow food. With the simple technique of wood chip gardening, you can produce great results with any range of experience!
