Heaven Scent K9

Heaven Scent K9 Our mission is to enrich the lives of canines & their owners by providing high standards of training Pamela grew up in Illinois and was raised on a farm.
(53)

Our business is a collaboration between mother and daughter: Pamela Peas and Jacklyn Brown. Jacklyn has wanted to open her own dog-related facility since her early years in high school. Her passion for training dogs is something that has only grown since she first began training her dog competitively in 2009. She graduated 2 semesters early from Trine University with a Bachelor's degree in managem

ent and became a certified K9 handler in 2018. She taught fifth grade at an elementary school where she would often take her yellow Labrador Bailey to school with her and use him for interactive games with the students. Pam moved to Indiana with her husband Mark and made the decision to stay home and raise their 4 children. She has been active in the Wabash 4-H Dog Club parent committee and has traveled to visit Jacklyn on her K9 jobs. Jacklyn is thankful her mother gave her the opportunity to open a business together to do something they both love.

B&Ts Teddy and Rosie went home today!
They have spent the last 2 weeks working on cooperation for grooming, problem behaviors like counter surfing & obedience skills like leash walking, place and recall. They were also acclimated to e collars for off leash control.

They are quick learners so I’m sure they are ready to put it to the test at home. We’re excited to see them back in a few weeks for their baths and grooming appointments! 🤍

If you’re a long time follower, you might remember JBell! We did a board & train with her for a few weeks when she was just a puppy. Now one of my great friends will be working her in LA! Full circle moments, let’s go J and Bianca 🔥

B&T Nala joined us to watch my nephews baseball game! Since she has 2 young boys in her household, I figured this would be an appropriate training outing. There were 2 games going on, lots of kids & probably half a dozen dogs. She was very well behaved, settled nicely, very friendly & confident in a new setting. Good girl! ⚾️

B&T Roscoe is a special little guy that has quickly stolen our hearts. A little background on Roscoe, he was initially a foster with his now-owner Natalie. She was struggling with his separation anxiety & went to the shelter for recommendations. They said they’d just euthanize him. Natalie instead left with him permanently and has since made every effort to try & set him up for success.

Roscoe has made major improvements with Natalie, but we are looking to take that even further. He still struggles with separation, boundaries and does not do things he doesn’t feel like doing. With wanting to add kids to their future, Natalie is planning ahead & looking to get Roscoe more cooperative & relaxed. We’d also like to ween him off of medication as he continues to progress.

In a short time, Roscoe has already made leaps & bounds. It was so rewarding seeing him come out of his shell & start to trust us. If you follow along our stories, you’ve seen him settle on place (tough for an anti-separation guy!), gain confidence on our agility course, allow me to trim his nails with relaxed body language, and more. We’ve been able to kennel him separately from his “brother” Steele also.

Shoutout to Natalie for doing all she can for her pups! Foster owners rock.

Board & Train Steele 🖤

Steele is here for 2 weeks to be introduced to skills that will prep him for some lofty goals! Steele’s owner works at a school & would like to utilize him as a therapy dog. Steele is confident & mega social so I believe him to be a great fit. He’s also freaking adorable!

Welcome, Steeley 😍

B&T Nala is a German Shepherd just shy of 1 year old. She is here for 4 weeks of training for dialing in her obedience & off leash skills around a variety of environments and distractions (including her owners’ 2 young kiddos).

Nala is 1 week into training & progressing quickly. She’s got a great temperament, very social, biddable and smart which makes our job easy.

Follow along our 24 hour stories to watch her progress! 🖤

K9 Rip took his annual explosive detection cert the last 2 days & passed with ease. This was my 7th time certifying one of my dogs & by far the most confident I’ve felt going in. I truly trust what he can do & my skills as a handler which is a great feeling. We’re ready for another year of sniffing & experiences! 🧨💣

PS- Rip’s 2nd cert & he’s 2 years old next month. What a dog ❤️‍🔥

Today we had to say “see you later” to our sweetie daycare dog Teddy & his lovely owner Haylee as they are moving away. We are going to miss seeing them on Wednesdays but we are so excited for their next chapter in life (and for the updates). Until next time Teddy! ❤️❤️

Today, we remember. 🇺🇸

🐕🇺🇸Lucca, a German Shepherd-Belgian Malinois mix, was deployed twice to Iraq and once to Afghanistan. She served on more than 400 missions during her tenure, finding ammunition, explosives, and insurgents at least 40 times during her six-year career. More notably, there wasn’t a single human fatality under her watch despite the dangerous conditions.

Lucca went out on her final mission in 2012, when she uncovered a 30-pound explosive device. While continuing her search, another device detonated underneath her. Lucca’s handler ran to her rescue despite known active explosives in the area. Lucca lost her front left leg but was able to recover from her injury and walk again in 10 days. After her sacrifice, Lucca retired and moved back home with Gunnery Sgt. Chris Willingham. Like Gander, Lucca was awarded the Dickin Medal, earning hers in 2016.

Thank you to all of the Men, Women, and our Faithful Friends for your service. Today we honor you.

Another atypical post today, but we believe in the power of prayer, the relationships made here and that this business is an avenue for a greater purpose.

Many of you know our beloved Beth who works most mornings at HSK9. She’s known for her smile and enthusiasm.

Beth’s daughter Kara’s house just burned down. The family and the horses are safe, but they lost all 3 of their dogs to the house fire. Our hearts are absolutely broken for them and as dog people, I’m sure it is mutual for those reading.

The Branocks have 3 young kids. Attached is a list of things they are in need of right now if you are able to provide. However, uplifting them with encouragement and prayer would be greatly appreciated in itself. Thank you so much in advance.

B&T Bella is a ~5yo husky known around her town as a runner. She came into the hands of her current owners from constantly escaping her previous one. Her current owners are ready to put in the work to prevent the same thing happening again. 👏🏼

She’s been with us 2 weeks so far & has another week to go. We’ve been prioritizing- you guessed it- recall! We’ve also done a lot of door manners for dashing, leash walking to make their family walks more enjoyable & tug play to help her family meet her exercise needs.

E collar application is a game changer for Bella. We have taught her the meaning behind the feeling & her recall is looking really nice. She even got to show off for her owners today in their first lesson! Since Bella understands the communication system, her levels are very low & her response quick & confident. Bella is not scared of the collar or taught through fear or over correction.

We’ve got a week to go & more to do! But this girl is a quick learner (often too smart for her own good) & her owners will be ready to keep it rolling 🤍

With permission from Leo’s parents, want to share a little about a family who has become special to us. Through boarding the Goepfrich family’s dog Sammy, we have gotten to know Austin, Allison & their sweet boy Leo.

Leo is having a hemispherotomy tomorrow and we wanted to humbly ask you to join us in lifting them up in their thoughts and prayers.

Allison and Austin’s faith, attitude and perspective during this difficult time is truly admirable. I know that God has big plans for this family and for Leo. Thank you for taking the time to pray ❤️

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24

We will also be accepting donations and words of encouragement for this family for the next month.

As the temperature rises owners of fur bearing breeds begin to realize their pets are hot. Mistakenly, many think that clipping these breeds down will help them be cooler. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
This time of year it's common to see these breeds 'blowing coat', meaning that massive amounts of undercoat are shed out at once. However, clipping is not the answer. Instead your professional groomer can remove that crazy amount of undercoat and help keep it in check year round.
This allows the coat to properly perform it's job of keeping the body cooler. The attached undercoat works like insulation keeping cooler air near the body while the guard coat reflects heat away. But when loose undercoat is not properly removed it impedes the coat from doing it's task.
Professional groomers provide so much more than a haircut. Talk to your groomer about booking an appointment for your fur bearing breed to keep them comfortable year round!

Happy 1st birthday to B&T Lucy! 🎉

Lucy is an Australian Labradoodle that has done a puppy class, private lesson & day trains. Her owner has done a fabulous dog getting started at a young age, as Lucy is quite the high energy gal!

Lucy is very smart & catches on to obedience quickly. She loves to fetch & play. We are working on adding more control as she ages & also introducing e collar training for off leash control. She has high arousal and becomes overstimulated very easily, so neutrality around distractions is her biggest challenge.

She’s made great progress so far & has so much ahead of her! Go Lucy! 🤍
