I want to talk about a particular muscle that doesn’t get much attention, but plays a huge role in your horse’s soundness; the Tensor Fasciae Latae (or TFL). The TFL flexes the hip joint and extends the stifle, whilst tensing the Fascia Latae and acts in opposition to the Semitendinosus that extends the hip and hock joints while flexing the stifle.
What does this mean for you?? If your horse’s FTL is inflamed or tight it can lead to stress and inflammation of the hocks and stifles. If you are injecting those joints, but the real issue is the TFL, those joints will continue to remain inflamed & stressed. Your wasting your money on injections if you don’t address the FTL.
Here you can see the FTL has a pretty intense pulse and the huge sigh of release the horse gives in response.

60 days under saddle... I threw her out for a month & this is her 2nd ride back. She has been hauled & rode at many arenas & not much bothers her. She had her teeth done in June & her feet done today.
