Instead of sharing a common myth with you all today, we could play a little trivia! Martha Stewart is a known animal lover. She owns over 25 dogs, 20 cats, 10 chinchillas, multiple birds, and farm animals. But which two dog breeds was she the most fond of? Comment your guess below, and we will share the answer later today!
Drake enjoyed bobbing for Cheerios during his exam! Playing in the water and enjoying a tasty snack is a helpful way to keep our duck friends happy during their exams. He certainly is one handsome guy! 🦆🦆
Veterinary Medicine sure can be a "hairy" business! After appointments, technicians can look very similar to their patients! But with the magic of lint rollers and a little bit of teamwork, our scrubs thankfully return to normal!
Today is Take Your Dog to Work Day! We always enjoy it when staff members bring in their pets because then everyone gets to spoil them! If you have pictures of your dog being the best work buddy, please share!
Happy Father's Day! We hope you all have a wonderful day! Feel free to share pictures of your adventures from the day!
Calling all dog dads! Today is your day to celebrate! Many of us will always see our pets as furry children, and we should celebrate that we are Pawrents! Please share pictures of the beautiful or handsome faces that make you proud to be a pet parent!
Check out the cutest pair in town! Gus, the Corgi, and Bohdi, the Golden, came in to see us and get puppy vaccines! They were both so sweet and seemed to be quite the pair! Cheers to the cutest brothers ever!

Fact! Since rabbits' eyes are placed high and to the side of their skulls, they only have a small blind spot directly in front of their faces. This helps them quickly detect predators approaching them in the wild from almost any direction!
Welcome back to another Myth or Fact Monday! Animals certainly have extraordinary senses, with their skills of sight and scent outweighing our own. But is it true that rabbits have near 360-degree vision? Comment your thoughts below! We will be posting an update later in the day.
There's no better way to end the weekend with pet pictures! Share the last photo you took of your pet!
Today is National Best Friends Day! Humans and animals form such incredible bonds and can truly be a person's best friend. Please share pictures of your furry best friends!
Miss Nova came in for an exam and had a wonderful time! She got to sit next to her owner on the couch while Dr. Jess performed her exam. She got to stay comfy and eat lots of cheese!

Myth! Tigers can be unpredictable and aggressive. Therefore, they are not considered good candidates to benefit from an emotional support animal. However, the Cheetah is! Cheetahs can experience stress in captivity. To help mitigate their anxiety, cubs are introduced to a confident and affectionate dog (such as a Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, or Anatolian Shepherd) that serves as emotional support and helps model social cues and good behavior. The first dog-cheetah relationship at a zoo was reportedly established in 1980.
Welcome back to another Myth or Fact Monday! Emotional support animals aren't just for humans; other animals can benefit from them, too! Comment your thoughts below, and we will post a response later in the day!
We schedule our appointments in advance; why shouldn't we do the same for our pets? Then, you won't have to worry about your pet's vaccines expiring again! Give us a call, schedule online, or ask about scheduling your pet's next visit while in the clinic!
Does dreary weather have you and your pet stuck indoors? Try giving them something to do with minimal effort! You can create an indoor digging challenge by hiding treats in an old blanket or towel for your dog to dig out. Or you can stash treats around the house and let their nose do the rest!
This sweet little man came in for an appointment after finding his wonderful new home! We took this lovely little kitten into the treatment area, where several staff members spoiled him with attention! He enjoyed a delicious Churu to distract him from his blood draw for his FIV/FeLV test. These viruses can be transmitted between other cats in the household, so it is important to test any new cats in your household. Kitten passed his test with flying colors and was given his FeLV vaccine to protect him. He is the bravest little man!
Come get your pets pampered by Ankeny's Best Groomers! Give us a call to book your pet's next spa day!
We hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day! To remind you, the clinic will be closed today. If your pet has a medical emergency, please get in touch with Blue Pearl, Iowa Veterinary Specialties, or Iowa State Small Animal Hospitals Emergency Services for your pet's care.
Feel free to share pictures of your pet's adventures today!
Miss Rose came in to see us because her skin was flaky and extremely itchy. After examining some of her flakes, we found mites. We put this lovely lady on medication to get rid of her unwelcome guests.
This weekend, spend time with your dogs and take a scent walk. Let them lead the way with their noses, and allow them to enjoy the scents! This can help to stimulate your dog's brain and take full advantage of those powerful noses! Feel free to share pictures of you and your pets enjoying the warm weather!
Mister Ben arrived for his 12-week check-up and slept through the entire appointment! We take pride in providing a comforting environment for our patients.
Dolly may not have felt well when she came into the clinic, but she enjoyed exploring the room!

Miss Luna came in with a surprising bump on her head. The owners noticed swelling around her eyes and a poor appetite, so they brought their sweet girl in for a visit. On exam, we found an abscess on her head that needed to be taken care of. We used some pet goggles to protect her eyes from any material, and she was ready to go! Under sedation, her abscess was lanced and cleaned out, and she also got a bit of grooming done! We hope you are feeling better, Luna!
Due to the storms, our power is out, and we are closing for the evening. We will post an update on our status tomorrow morning.

Often we get asked what is considered an emergency, and what is non-emergent but needs to be seen within a few days. These are just a few examples of non-emergent vs. emergent, and of course if you have any concerns please contact us. Shoutout to Kayla and Amanda for helping with this video! #AAAC
Oh, the silly ways cats groom themselves! Iris is always entertaining when it comes time for her paws to be clean. She looks pretty comfortable! 😻
Iris loves to hang out with the doctors in their nice, quiet office. However, she is not a fan of the doors always being closed and can't leave when she pleases. Her best idea for getting someone's attention to let her out is to sit there and play with the doorstop until a human does her bidding for her. She is such a precious and goofy kitty! #AAAC #IrisTheClinicCat #OpenThisDoor
Roxanne came in to trim her nails, but she had to stop by and see all of her CSR friends for some good pets and attention! She was especially excited to see her friend Emilee! #AAAC #AttentionTime #ManiPediDay
This month is Adopt a Rescued Guinea Pig Month! This is Kova, Dr. Gigler's 6 year old Peruvian guinea pig. He was adopted from Furry Friends 5 years ago, and has been an esteemed member of the family ever since! Share your pictures of your adopted guinea pigs below - we'd love to meet them! #AAAC #AdoptARescuedGuineaPig
We saw this new way of providing an interactive treat toy for cats! We put pill vial caps in a water bath and put some treats on the cap for Iris to check out. She was interested decided it was worth a shot! She gave her first treat a bath but quickly caught on to what the game was. She is such a smart little lady! #AAAC #InteractiveFeeding #Cats
Iris loves to play 'baseball' with anything and everything. Here she is playing with a ball of her own fur 😂
Galley got to hang out with us, and while Emilee was grabbing her a blanket, she decided 1 was not enough. She decided the best place to hang out was the blanket cabinet, where she had them all! Chassi was able to talk her out for a few seconds for attention before she quickly returned. We love you, sweet Galley girl! Keep being precious 💕
Two of our core values are progress and enthusiasm. Yesterday, we practiced both, and had some pinata fun during our bi-monthly staff meeting!
For National Dog Week, we had a small puppy party at the end of our shift where Zeus, Reese, Glory, and Pixel all got to play together! They had a blast and it was certainly fun watching them run around.
Audrey is a beautiful girl, although she's never really been a big fan of coming in for her annual appointments. Although her technician may have found the perfect combination for her! She likes to hide her face, so a towel was placed over her, and she was fed a Churu to keep her busy. She did great for everything and didn't even notice her poke! #AAAC #FearFree #Cat
On weekends, Pixel and Glory get to come with me (Dr. Gigler) on a coffee run to Scooter's, and we bring back pup cups to enjoy. It's one of their favorite treats! What is a weekend tradition you enjoy with your pets?
For Fresh Breath Day, Iris volunteered to have her teeth brushed to show off how essential healthy teeth are! To ensure you remember, the teeth must be brushed 3 times a week to be effective. If brushing your pet's teeth is difficult or impossible, call us to schedule a dental cleaning! #AAAC #DentalCare #TeethBrushing
