G2s are 7 weeks old today! With rain putting a damper on any outdoor activities, we've been having fun in the "Puppy Play Palace" (aka the basement) doing some environmental/obstacle exposure and evaluation. 😊

Definitely getting much more comfortable in their crates. 😊

After a few days of eating meals in crates with the doors open, they are now being shut in for meals. They aren’t thrilled but overall are settling pretty well. It helps when the meal is something they have to work at a bit to eat (like the chicken necks they had with lunch today).

Another tiring day for puppies…
They had another visitor and got to play quite a bit in the house. Being the great puppies they are, after an hour or so they started getting restless and going over by the door so I took them outside and everyone immediately went potty. Then back in the house for a bit more play until their batteries started running down.

After that they got lunch and a much needed nap. Then later this afternoon everyone took an individual leash walk through some areas they hadn’t been yet: the barnyard, the back yard, the deck and the garage. Everyone also met our cat, Fiddle Faddle, who knew I was handing out treats to the puppies throughout the walks and followed us around so he could get treats too.

Another big busy day for puppies.

G2s are 6 weeks old today! No cute individual photos this week. They are well past the age of sitting still for a nanosecond surrounded by interesting props.

This is the age to start really increasing their exposure to different things and experiences and start noting how they handle them, so this afternoon everyone got individual house time.

They have been in the house a few times, but usually in groups and usually barricaded in smaller areas. This is their first time exploring the first floor individually. And when you're only 6 weeks old, being isolated by yourself and away from your siblings, especially in a place that isn't yet very familiar, is a *very* big deal. I set out some obstacles for them to negotiate that provided unusual, unstable, sometimes noisy footing.

They found some kibble snacks in a laundry basket. I placed these before each puppy came out so they could find them on their own as they were exploring and get rewarded for following their little noses. It was interesting to see how each reacted to the kibble that had fallen through the holes onto the floor under it that they couldn't get to. We did a little food luring practice in the kitchen, and then it was lunch time.

They had to work to get their lunch today. While each was off exploring, I placed their ground chicken/ground beef lunch in a bowl in the middle of the cardboard box and then called them back into the kitchen. Most immediately identified that something really yummy had appeared in the room, but to get it they had to use their noses to figure out where it was and then go in and get it.

I am super thrilled with how everyone did. All explored confidently and no one had any problems at all with any of the different footings. All did really well on their scenting and luring exercises too, thanks to that usual insane "I'll sell my soul for that piece of kibble" food drive our dogs tend to have. 😄
