Meet Walter, a 13-year-old basset hound. Walter presented to our medical oncology department after being diagnosed with lymphoma. Lymphoma is the most common cancer seen in both dogs and cats. It is a disease that typically progresses very rapidly
but frequently can be controlled with chemotherapy.

Chemotherapy for pets is very different than chemotherapy for humans. Most cats and dogs handle chemotherapy well with few to no side effects. After discussing the potential treatment options with our oncologist, Dr. McDaniel, Walter’s family elected to
begin therapy. He has had 3 chemotherapy treatments and is currently in remission! He is handling his treatments well and is enjoying the holiday season with his family!

We all have our fingers crossed for this sweet boy!

This Christmas we have selected Howell Nature Center as the non profit we support. Howell Nature Center has graciously taken in many of the sick and injured wildlife that people bring to us. Without this vital partner and resource we would not be able to do what we do to rehabilitate these native critters.

So this season instead of our Angle Tree we are taking donations for this lovely organization. All of the donations will go directly to them at the beginning of January. You can stop on into our lobby and select a tag on our donation tree with a specific amount or any amount you would like to give. We have a token of appreciation for anyone who donates and…

Did you know that antifreeze, commonly used in winter, is extremely toxic to pets?

🐾 Antifreeze contains ethylene glycol, a substance that can be deadly even in small amounts. Unfortunately, it has a sweet taste that attracts pets, especially dogs and cats. Just a few licks can cause severe kidney damage and can be fatal if not treated immediately. ⚠️

Symptoms to Watch For:
Stumbling or acting "drunk"
Excessive drooling or vomiting 🤢
Increased thirst or urination
Lethargy and weakness

If you suspect your pet has ingested antifreeze, contact your vet or a pet poison helpline right away—time is crucial!

❄️ Keep antifreeze securely stored, clean up any spills, and consider using pet-safe alternatives. Let’s keep our furry friends safe this winter! 💙🐶🐱
