Happy July! We'll be closed Friday, July 4th, in observance of Independence Day. 🎆

Unfortunately, this is not a holiday pets love, and it's fitting that July is "Lost Pet Prevention Month" as the lights and sound from fireworks can spook pets into running away. Check this blog for some tips on helping them have a safe holiday:

The 4th of July is just around the corner, and we know how much fun it can be with fireworks, celebrations, and good times—but for our furry friends, it can be a bit overwhelming. With all the noise and excitement, ensuring our pets stay safe and calm is important. 🐾

Tips to Help Your Pet Through the Noise:
1. Create a Safe Space: Set up a quiet, comfortable area where your pet can retreat during fireworks. Add their favorite toys, blankets, and a calming atmosphere to help them feel secure.

2. Use Calming Products: Consider calming aids like Zylkene and Thunderease (diffusers and sprays) to help reduce anxiety. These products can be great for helping your pet feel more at ease.

3. Keep Pets Indoors: Ensure your pets are inside, away from loud noises and potential escape risks. They might get scared and try to run if they hear loud bangs.

4. Don’t Forget the Meds: If your pet needs medication for anxiety or calming, NOW is the time to refill those prescriptions before the holiday rush! Ensuring your pet has what they need will help you avoid stress on the big day.

5. Stay Calm and be there for them: Stay calm yourself. Pets can pick up on our energy, so by remaining calm, you help your pets stay calm too.

Now’s the Time to Refill Those Medications!

If you know your pet struggles with fireworks or loud noises, make sure you have their anxiety medications refilled in advance. We’re here to help with any prescriptions or recommendations you need. 🐶🐱

📞 Call us today at 734-662-4474 to refill medications or schedule a consultation to ensure your pet stays safe this 4th of July!

Have a safe and fun Independence Day! 🎆 Let’s keep our furry friends happy and stress-free! 🐾💙❤️

The 4th of July is still a few weeks away, but fireworks season is kicking off right now! 🎆 To set your pets up for success, please be thinking ahead for the upcoming Independence Day holiday and request their anti-anxiety medications before July. You can do that in a few ways:

Fireworks, picnics and other Fourth of July traditions can be great fun for people. But all of the festivities can be frightening and even dangerous for animals. Noisy fireworks and other celebrations can startle animals and cause them to run away. Some preparation for this holiday can help a lot! Here's what you can do now:

✅ Take a current photo of all of your cats, dogs and horses—just in case.

✅ Make sure the environment is safe and secure. If your neighbors set off fireworks at an unexpected time, is your yard secure enough to keep your pet contained?

✅ Make sure your pets—cats and dogs alike—have identification tags with up-to-date information.

✅ If your pets are microchipped, make sure your contact information in the microchip registry is up to date.

At Ann Arbor Animal Hospital, we know how much you love your pets, and we want to make sure they stay happy, healthy, and safe. One of the most important aspects of pet health is heartworm prevention. ❤️

What Are Heartworms?
Heartworms are dangerous parasites that live in your pet’s heart and lungs. They can cause serious health issues like heart failure, lung disease, and even death. Because they are transmitted through mosquito bites, it is crucial to protect your pet year-round.

Why is Heartworm Protection So Important?
🐾 Prevention is Easier (and Cheaper!) then the treatment. Treating heartworm disease is expensive, lengthy, and not consistently successful. Prevention is as simple as a monthly pill or topical treatment, and much more affordable.

❤️ Long-term Health: Heartworms can cause irreversible damage to your pet’s heart and lungs, affecting their overall health. Protecting them now ensures a happier, healthier future.

🦟 Mosquitoes are Everywhere: Even indoor pets can be exposed to mosquitoes. It’s crucial to keep your pet protected no matter where they spend their time.

How We Can Help:
Ann Arbor Animal Hospital offers heartworm prevention options tailored to your pet’s needs, including:
• Monthly oral medications
• Monthly topical treatments

Make Heartworm Protection a Priority!
If your pet isn’t already on heartworm prevention, now is the time to start! Don’t wait—schedule an appointment with us to get your pet started on the right track.

📞 Call us today at 734-662-4474 to learn more about heartworm prevention options or to schedule your pet’s check-up!
