VOSM was one of the first canine orthopedic sub-specialty groups in the world. The specialists at VOSM are even further sub-specialized into the disciplines of sports medicine, joint replacement, trauma, juvenile orthopedic conditions, regenerative medicine and orthopedic surgical oncology, as well as conservative medical management and rehabilitation treatments for osteoarthritis and soft tissue

injuries. The sub-specialty orthopedic surgeons at VOSM are leaders in their field and are actively engaged in research and development, lecturing and teaching at a national and international level.

Meeting Police K9 Chase and his handler, Officer Michael Elezovic, from the Lower Paxton Township Police Department for an orthopedic evaluation was an incredible experience. K9 Chase demonstrated his remarkable strength and spirit despite his injury, showcasing the close bond between him and Officer Elezovic. The evaluation and diagnostics aimed to determine the extent of Chase's injury, a crucial step in ensuring he receives the best possible care. Witnessing the dedication and teamwork between Chase and Officer Elezovic was truly inspiring, highlighting the vital role K9 units play in our community.

is full of surprises, whether it’s a tricky case, an unexpected outcome for a pet, or an owner who goes above and beyond for their furry friend. Dr. Sherman Canapp and the team recently experienced all three when world-famous NASCAR driver Danica Patrick came to us for a puzzling injury on her beloved Belgian Malinois, Ella.

“My good friend reached out to me about his friend who needed help with her dog – she had an injury that no one could figure out. They thought it was an ACL injury and were about to perform a TPLO, but things were just not adding up,” shares Dr. Canapp.

After conducting a thorough orthopedic exam and performing a musculoskeletal ultrasound, a knee (stifle) arthroscopy was performed. Dr. Canapp discovered Ella had actually torn her PCL, lateral meniscus, and lateral collateral ligament - which a TPLO surgery would have actually made worse. The meniscus was treated arthroscopically, and the PCL and collateral ligament were treated with stem cells and PRP under ultrasound guidance, leaning on the power of regenerative medicine.

We’re happy to report that Ella is currently resting comfortably at home and will visit us again in a few months to ensure she’s on the right road to recovery. We’re forever thankful to Danica for entrusting us with Ella’s care! 💚 🏁

From another happy family member!

Hello,

I wanted to share an update on my dog, Ranger. He had bilateral elbow arthroscopy around this time last year by Dr. Canapp. Now, one full year later and this boy runs faster than all my other dogs! He is so happy and pain free! He has started agility training and he’s also running AKC fast cat. I cannot thank Dr. Canapp and the staff at VOSM enough for all that you did for Ranger!! My husband and I often say that deciding on surgery for Ranger was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made and VOSM made that easier for us. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the amazing work you do each day to help animals. Here are a few photos of Ranger thriving! He probably looks a bit different than when he was at VOSM since he’s almost 2 years old now :)
