We had a great pack walk yesterday. The weather was beautiful so the trail was busy with lots of bikers, hikers, and other dogs, but everyone handled it all very well. We also raised almost $500 for Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Asheville, NC! Thanks to everyone who came out to support the rescue and practice walking in such a distracting environment.

This is what we are all about…today Aspen (shepherd) came for daycare to socialize with other dogs. It was the day that her owner and she have been working towards for months. Aspen was very leash reactive towards dogs when she was rescued, which made it difficult for her owners to walk her and hard for her to be near other dogs. Through private lessons and lots of practice, they now enjoy their walks and Aspen has learned how much fun other dogs can be! The best thing about these photos is that one of the dogs she is playing with today was one that she barked and lunged at just a few months ago in a lesson. We are excited to know that Aspen can now live her best life because her owners were so dedicated to the training process.

We had a great Pack Walk at Quiet Waters on Friday. We loved seeing some dogs and owners we haven’t seen for a while! There were dogs from daycare, group classes, the Puppy Program, and the Board and Train Program all together…

It’s a very busy, but productive week with our Board and Train dogs! The program teaches 5 basic obedience behaviors (sit, down, place, heel, and come), works on individual behavioral concerns, and fine tunes social interactions with other dogs. Once a dog learns the communication of training and can follow through with obedience anytime, anywhere we can make so much progress working through specific behavior concerns. Learning how to “be a dog” in a cohesive pack is also a big part of our program since it ensures that dogs can communicate well with each other too. This week we have separation anxiety, ball obsession, jumping on people and over fences, nuisance barking, and significant leash reactivy to work through with the various dogs. Our next Board and Train opening starts on July 14 and we do have some more spots left after that this summer. Visit our website or call our Board and Train line 410-570-8088 to learn more.

Jasper is looking for a new home because his elderly owner can no longer care for him. He is a 3-year old neutered male Maltese who gets along well with other dogs and is very friendly with people. He would be best suited for a home with kids older than 10 since he can get nervous with too much noise and excitement. He can be protective of his food, but this should be easily fixed with training. Chesapeake Dog Training has been caring for him while he searches for a new home and can provide additional information and free training support.
Please email [email protected] if you would like more information. We would love to help find a good home for Jasper since he is such a fun little dog!

Charlie is our last Board and Train dog of 2023! He makes a total of 46 dogs to have completed our most comprehensive training program this year. The dogs work really hard to learn new behaviors, correct behavioral concerns, and make sure that it all transitions smoothly back to life at home. It is very rewarding to see how much the dogs learn and how much it changes the lives of their families. Charlie was a great end to the year since he challenged us in some ways, but really came around and showed us what a sweet and amazing (wicked smart!) dog he is. And now we’ll be gearing up for the dogs coming in 2024…
