Dustbunnies and Dog Hair

Dustbunnies and Dog Hair animal sanctuary/ hobby farm. We take in special needs, breed alpacas and kunes Dustbunnies and Dog Hair is an animal sanctuary/ hobby farm.

We currently have alpacas, llamas, donkeys, mules, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, and of course dogs. We began by taking in unwanted, or hard to adopt dogs, that had medical needs. Then we started taking in larger animals that were in the same situation. We have a small mobile farm/petting zoo that we use to help offset the medical needs of the sanctuary animals. Not sure how he did it, but Fergus got out this morning. Then he could not figure out how to get back in... He is back in and has lots of greens to eat.

Slow morning so far. Rearranged the smaller snakes and am defrosting their meals. I wound up putting them in more appropriate tanks based on size and activity level. The hognose now has burrow space, the large corn has room to stretch out, and the baby corn has a smaller tank so he is not feeling as exposed.

I am really feeling the work from yesterday when I was attempting to fix round pen panels and problem areas. So I am moving slower today.

Days like today are reminders as to why I generally take the extra time to give the friendly goats pats, scratch the mule's a$$, spray the pigs and alpacas, let Lady lick me, try not to yell at the babies getting underfoot. Especially with our life, there is not a guarantee they will be around tomorrow. So take the extra 5 minutes (it's not always possible) and spray an alpaca 😁

*sigh* farewell Goldie. 18 years old. I am just sorry you had so much stress last month.

20+ hour days get real long. Day started rough after not sleeping well Friday, got up for work at 1900 Friday and crashed after 1600 Saturday.

Nelson is home, he was yelling his head off for part of the drive home.

Lady seems to be doing well, I did ask the students about milking her out some to lessen the pressure on her since they removed Nelson from nursing.

With the heat advisory today, I have a feeling I will be feeding at daybreak and hiding inside the house working on that list of things to be done.

Headed to pick up Nelson. Lady has to stay for a while. She did Major damage to that back leg.

Latest update. I had found a mass on Licorice's abdomen. I had been watching it and from messing with her, I knew it was sore. So we went to the vet today. Imagine my surprise when we found 4 puncture wounds... probably from canine source. By the time we saw the vet today, they were draining. The vet clipped her, flushed the wounds, updated vaccines, and cleaned everything up. Due to timing, this occurred during the same time as the alpacas, so probably same source. She will be fine, but has to have meds and special care for a bit.

Ok guys. We have one volunteer that is doing AMAZING. However we have so much we have to get done. Fixing fences, cutting trees, cleaning, sorting, organizing, even some good old fashioned digging 🀣. Almost every weekend and lots of weekdays during the day. Would folks prefer if I make events and organize work days? Or just have open work days and a list where folks pick things to do? I have tried organized work days in the past and no one showed.

This is morning feeding. Special feed for the horses and goats, all stock for the cows and pigs. 1 day worth each picture. I have also been cutting greens for the goats, sheep, alpacas, and cows.

So the emergency vet run this am, then to rainbow city to get lizard snacks, then to centre tsc since Anniston did not have what I needed, then home to work on fences. Normal till Thursday when I have a vet run at 10 am (Licorice has a mass on her abdomen and Mattie needs to be fixed), then make appts for Bosch (for his seizures), Beau (heart issues), Blohm for his neuter, etc. Gawd.

Good news, the vet bill for the alpacas was not as bad as it could have been. $4k, but its more than we have atm. Its not totally done yet, but mostly. JT Vaughn will still accept payments from outsiders on the account.

The girls were doing great till today. Dolly was all stressed and on alert again. I think I HAVE to get another llama to lessen her stress. She shares a fence with Luke, but does not have another guard in with her. The wounds appear to be healing and no signs of infection.

08/11/2024

Today is the first day I have seen Dolly llama relax and sunbathe in 2 weeks. She is still on high alert 90%of the time.

Just a day 😁

Kune kunes are available. Full grown proven boar (not pictured), 4 adult females, 2 barrows I believe, and this year's piglets. I have not caught the piglets yet to check for s*x. Do not have to get rid of. We will start processing them this fall.

Also if someone wants Damlay, we can discuss it. She is not aggressive and loves hanging out with the cows and Finn. She is a swamp style (I was told) but she does like her ponds and puddles. She has never tested the fences and comes to feed (most of the time 😁). She does enjoy the other cattle but Finn is the only one her size.

Zebus are probably going to be available soon. 1 proven cow, 3 heifers and a baby bull zebu cross.
