Happy Thanksgiving eveyone! We are so incredibly thankful for all of our volunteers, fosters, donors, adopters and those who support us! We cannot continue to help cats and kittens without the generous people who help! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!

Leo, the kitten in the photo, was brought to us after he was hit by a car. He had two severely broken legs and one vet even recommended euthanizing him. We saw he had a fighting spirit so we decided to help! After the surgery he is now a healthy, happy playful kitten who will now have a chance at finding a loving home! We could not have helped him without the generous people like you!

If you move please take your cats with you. Bringing them to a rescue or shelter is not going to be less stressful for them than moving with their family. It's going to be more stressful. You are the only people they have ever known. People who dump their pets because they are moving are irresponsible pet owners. If you don't plan on taking your cats with you when you move DON'T GET A CAT.

Meet Doc Marten (orange) and his brother Ugg (orange/white). These two kittens are so sweet! They love to run and play and will gladly cuddle up with you when their done! They are very outgoing, cuddly and love people and other cats! Their foster mom said Ugg and Doc love each other very much and will cuddle together with you! She said she would love to see them adopted together (even though they don't have to be) both of them are currently being housed at Best Pets in Antioch.

If you are interested in meeting them or adopting them you will need to fill out our adoption application and be approved. You can find our adoption application on our linktree here https://linktr.ee/guttercatadoptions

Leo the kitten with the two broken legs is doing great! We brought him to the vet today to get his sutures removed and for a recheck and the vet said he looks great! He wants to run and play with his sisters but we have to make sure he doesn't jump. We will get more x-rays done in two weeks to make sure he is healing okay.

Thank you again to everyone who donated towards his care! πŸ’•

Update: Bart passed away peacefully on his own a few minutes ago. He tried so hard to make a comeback, but it was his time. We love you Bart, we are sorry this happened to you. We are relieved you are no longer suffering. Thanks to everyone who donated and cared. Even though we are very sad, we are thankful to everyone who supports us and helps us help them.

Bart is trying, but everytime we lower his dextrose fluid down as we try to wean him off of it, he crashes. If he doesn't pass on his own or bounce back without fluids soon, then we may have to say goodbye. We haven't given up yet, but we realize that because he keeps crashing despite eating every 2 hours, there may be something else going on. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Update on our medical cases. The baby kitten with the 2 broken legs received his surgery! His foster mom said he is healing well and is as sweet as ever! We are so thankful for the animal hospital and staff that helped make this happen!

Bartholomew is doing okay too! He's not 100% yet but he's hanging in there and getting better every day! He is a fighter and we are going to do everything we can for him!

Thank you to everyone who donated towards their care! We couldn't help cats like this without the generous people who donate. If you can, please consider becoming a monthly donor so we can continue to help cats like these two!

10/22/24 update: Bart made it through the night! He is still at the hospital receiving treatment and may need to spend another night at the vet. His vet bill is adding up, so any donation is greatly appreciated! Thank you to everyone who has donated so far! πŸ’• He is a sweet boy who deserves a fighting chance.

The starving cat we took in, we named him Bartholomew or Bart for short. He is starting to declin. We rushed him to our vet and he is being seen now. The vet thinks he may have refeeding syndrome. We are really hoping he pulls through, he's a sweet boy and only 2-3 years old.

If you can donate to his care we would greatly appreciate it. You can donate through PayPal here https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=LZ3GGHFYJL3EQ or Givebutter here https://givebutter.com/ejg1QL

If you find a very sick, debilitated or emaciated animal, remember to feed it only small amounts of food until you can get them to a veterinarian for evaluation. Your veterinarian will develop a long-term plan for returning the animal to normal weight and health.

During starvation, the body shifts from using protein as the main energy source to using carbohydrates. This change in energy source causes many electrolytes to leave cells and enter the bloodstream. Refeeding stimulates the release of insulin, which causes these electrolytes to quickly move back into the cells and can quickly cause a dangerous drop in blood levels, within 24-72 hours of starting food.

In addition to electrolyte abnormalities, another potential problem is fluid overload. Due to the decrease of the heart and kidneys’ functional reserve, the reintroduction of carbohydrates too quickly results in excess fluid retention. This can overwhelm a weakened cardiac system and lead to heart failure. You can read more about refeeding syndrome here https://www.catsonbroadwayhospital.com/refeeding-syndrome/ #:~:text=Refeeding%20stimulates%20the%20release%20of,72%20hours%20of%20starting%20food.

Yesterday we took in two medical cases. A kitten with two broken legs and a cat that was starving. The kitten named Leo was found outside as a stray in Antioch. His mom sadly passed away but he was found alive but injured. The person who found him fosters for us so she called the rescue right away. We brought him to our vet and discovered he has two severely broken legs. The vet thinks he was hit by a car. We currently have him on pain medications and will be scheduling the surgery to get both of his legs fixed. We are estimating the surgery is going to cost between $2,000-3,000

The starving cat we took in walked up to a good samaritan's house asking for help in Antioch. The founders gave him some food and reached out to one of our volunteers from the rescue. The volunteer asked if the rescue could take him in and we did. He is going to have bloodwork done to make sure his organs are functioning properly. He has already seen our vet and received dewormer, sub-q fluids and small frequent feeding to prevent refeeding syndrome. He is in good spirits and is taking food well! We don't believe he has fatty liver disease which is nothing short of a miracle. He is not out of the woods yet. If he starts to decline we will have to hospitalize him which is going to cost about $200 a day. We are going to nurse him back to health and give him all the care, love and food he needs. πŸ’•

Please donate if you can and if you can't donate please share! Any amount helps. We can't help cats without generous people like you.

***update 10/8/24 owners have been found! Thank you to everyone who shared!***

We took in a stray cat she was found on 1st St. and Highland Ave. In Antioch IL she is not microchipped and did not have a collar.

She is an older kitty, 10+ years old she has an upper respiratory infection and is in need of a dental cleaning with possible extractions. We will be treating her though our vet.

If this is your cat please reach out to us. We are doing a stray hold through Lake County Animal Control.
