Antioch Animal Services Antioch Animal Services is dedicated to promoting animal welfare and public awareness. The City of Antioch operates a full service Animal Shelter.

Antioch Animal Services is a bureau of the Antioch Police Department and is responsible for public safety, enforcing local and state laws, as well as caring for the animals in our shelter. Antioch Animal Services is unique in that we only serve Antioch residents and do so 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The cities surrounding Antioch rely on Contra Costa County Animal Services for their animal

related needs. We recognize the responsibility this bureau has to fairly and wisely exercise good judgment when trying to accomplish our mission. We acknowledge that we are held to a higher standard; therefore, our personal and professional lives must be exemplary. We provide care for the lost, homeless and unwanted animals found or surrendered within the City of Antioch. We work closely with local animal welfare organizations to increase the number of animals that are placed into loving homes.

This heartthrob is a French Bulldog mix - the XL size. He is obsessed with toys and has been given one too many treats during his stay with us. He's now on a diet......๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Azul hasn't shown the most positive interest in other dogs and so we think he will do best as a single dog in his new home. We are just struggling to find that home. 188 days & counting since this piggy found his way here๐Ÿ˜ฅ

"Billy" nka Colby-Jack aka CJ was a scared stray that was seen frequently off James Donlon for a few weeks last year before getting himself stuck in the mechanics of the canal. Our Animal Control Officers were able to free him and bring him to safety. When he wasn't claimed he was made available for adoption....

"I adopted Stitch back in December. He had been in the shelter for over a month because he was pretty shy. He's honestly the most loving and cuddly cat I've ever met. He loves to play, is super talkative with the cutest kitten- like meow, loves to be held, and actually ended up loving our dog too. Here's some pics as well. Thank y'all again for all you do!! "

We don't like to see puppies in the shelter. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ They are the most vulnerable of our population since they are guaranteed not to be fully vaccinated, if at all. Their immune systems are not hardy enough to withstand communicable diseases such as parvovirus, ringworm or kennel cough.

Despite our best efforts to maintain cleanliness and isolate puppies from the risk of infection they are at an increased risk from the moment they enter the shelter where other sick animals exist or are arriving daily.

A precious girl of about 2 years old Simone can be a little unsure at first approach, but once she's comfortable with you, you will fast win her over by just looking her way..... ๐Ÿ˜

Simone is a small Cattle dog mix and although she's not herding any of us, it would be recommended to be prepared for it and how to manage a herding dog without animals to herd.... ๐Ÿ˜‰ "Smarter than a fifth grader" you will need to be ready to have your IQ challenged.

Cuteness, smarts, medium sized and athletic....Simone is the whole package. โค๏ธ

Chenille is an approximately 3 year old Bulldog-y mix. She's a llttle awkward in new settings and shows that she may have lived the crate life as she hurries back to her kennel eagerly. ๐Ÿฅฐ

She is a compact girl of about 45lbs and has been good with other dogs she has met, although shy.

We think she will thrive in a home setting once she settles in, but will need that time to adapt to home living.

Will you be his Valentine's day date?

Rex has been at the shelter since October. He was previously adopted from another shelter and promptly placed in a back yard. He's not a back yard dog. He wants to be at "heel". He takes his direction from his handler/person. He is a bit velcro-y, but not in the wiggly-licky-pitty kinda way. ๐Ÿ˜‰ He's quiet, smart, agile and easy, yes we said it, "easy", which doesn't go hand in hand with a Belgian mix, but here he is.

If you are looking for the perfect gentleman, he is here at 300 L St patiently waiting for you. ๐Ÿ˜

Hazel has been bounced around again and again. Hazel has some specific wants in a new home and despite it being spelled out it seems she ended up in situations that she wasn't suited for and rehomed over and over.

Honesty is something that is very important when rehoming pets. We do our best with providing information about what we have learned about the pets in our care here at the shelter, but we have a snapshot of shelter living, so we can't account for all behaviors that may develop in a home setting and not all adopters take heed to what we say either. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

With 9 year old Hazel, since she had been through many homes, we were able to get the run down on what she needs;
