🎬 “The Friend” Movie is now in theaters. I haven't seen it yet, but I can make a pretty good assumption on what's going to happen. Many people jump on movie-influenced pet trends. Please, please, please, don’t rush out and buy a Great Dane after watching "The Friend!" Don’t let your friends or family members impulse buy one, either. Do your research before bringing one home! They’re wonderful dogs, but they are definitely not a good fit for everyone!
If you are seriously considering bringing a Great Dane into your family, please:
đź’˘Research the breed thoroughly before making a decision.
đź’˘Understand the medical risks of having a large breed dog in your family and definitely consider pet insurance.
đź’˘ Be financially prepared. Great Danes can be expensive to care for. Everything from food to supplements jump up in price due to their massive size.
đź’˘Make a commitment to socialization & training. A well-behaved Dane is a requirement, not an option.
đź’˘Make the commitment to give one the time and the life they deserve.
đź’˘Be sure a Dane will fit your type of lifestyle, and you can provide for its specific needs.
If you are looking for a Great Dane, get one through a reputable breeder, and do not expect to get one right away. Generally, responsible breeders are not really driven by demand, they’re driven by breeding responsible litters and making sure the dogs are coming out the healthiest. Breeder waitlists will get very long if it’s a particular breed that people want, so be patient.
