On the twelfth day of Christmas my groomer gave to me..

A MDTW original product that works for both cats and dogs!

Well… ish. It’s products that other companies make, but we’re making them into a kit so you have everything you need!

Please be patient as this is going to be a long post, but I promise it is going to be PACKED with good information that A TON of owners can relate to.

We mentioned yesterday that itching and allergies is one of the most common health issues we see in the shop. On top of that, is ear issues!! Most of the time they’re working hand in hand. From personal experiences with severe allergies in both ourselves and our dogs… we want to help stop the suffering that you and your pet are going through.

Trust us. You are not alone in this battle AT ALL. It’s also important to know that this battle does NOT make you a bad pet owner. The only way it makes you a bad pet owner is if you don’t do anything to try to help the situation.

A little back story, Madison and her parents have a lab named Macy. Macy has had terrible seasonal allergies for a few years now. Non stop itching, absolutely nasty ears, severely pink eyes, etc. Last summer, the vet put her on Prednisone and (pardon my language) but it was HELL. That’s truly the only way to explain it. That medication did a complete 180 in that girl’s life. She was constantly hungry- making her get into anything and everything she could trying to fill her stomach. She had extreme thirst causing her to have to go outside every 10 minutes. She gained an unhealthy amount of weight. And she even lost over 50% of the hair on her belly. She was far from the Macy we knew and loved. Even though her allergy symptoms were better, we could tell she was still miserable- just in a different way. This summer, we’ve been ADAMANT on keeping the floors clean, running the air purifier, monthly baths that soothe her skin, Benadryl, eye drops, and treating her ears DAILY. At one point, we were wondering if we needed a different ear product because her ears didn’t seem to be getting better. We brought her in and the vet told us “you’re doing everything right. You’re fighting the battle hard, her allergies are simply fighting just as hard. If it wasn’t for you keeping up on the routine, the only other thing we would suggest is prednisone again”

The ear routine we used? Almost everything in this kit! The only difference is we included ear drops that our vet prescribed to us. (Will include the exact routine at the very end of the post)

This kit isn’t quite finished yet so there will be more in it by the time the winner will receive it. We’re waiting on a couple shipments to come in.

Inside the kit will be ear flush (the EXACT stuff our vet uses, cotton rounds, cotton swabs, an extremely informational brochure on everything you need to know about a dogs ear (it was made by Madison so it’s not just veterinarian scientific words that make no sense), and a step by step brochure insert on how to clean the ear!

In the morning when we let her outside, we would slowly pour the ear flush into her ear canal until it overflowed then softly massaged the outside of the canal (repeat in both ears if both seem to be icky) then let her go do her business and shake the flush out. This will help allow any debris down in the canals to loosen up and potential be shook out. When she’s done, she comes inside and we use a cotton round on our finger to wipe the bulk of the debris out. We then use the swabs to get into the little crevices of the ear- by no means do we go in deep digging, just what you can see from the surface. We then let the ear dry during the day. At night before we go to bed, if we see more debris has worked its way up, we will again just use a cotton round and make a couple swabs to remove it and then used the drops the vet gave us. By splitting up the treatments, we’re not only allowing the debris to exit, but we’re allowing the flush to dry inside the ear. If we used the products back to back we would end up flushing out the drops and not actually allowing them to work. As for Benadryl and eye drops, we used those as needed. We gave her a Benadryl whenever we noticed she was starting to flare up. For her, her biggest telling sign was when her eyes got pink. If the Benadryl didn’t seem to help the pinkness, our vet also gave us some eye drops that we used. Talk to your vet about different options that you can add to your routine!!

On the eleventh day of Christmas my groomer gave to me…

Hot spot & itch spray!😍

Besides fungal/yeast, this is the biggest issue we see come through our doors. With the countless “allergy” diagnosis from the vet, dry skin, excessive licking from anxiety, brush burn, and endless amount of other reasons, this spray has been a true helping hand outside of the shop. Owners are comfortable using it to make their pets happy and groomers are happy knowing the pet is comfortable outside of their care!

On the nineth day of Christmas my groomer gave to me…

A urine, odor, and stain eliminator spray!!

Let’s face it, pets are nasty. We love them dearly. But they’re nasty😂 Whether it’s coming inside from a muddy yard, drooling on the floor, or even just every day odors, it starts to make the house feel a bit yuck. A spray like this is exactly what every pet owner needs in their cleaning closest.

Did you know the only way to truly clear up odors and bacteria produces by pets is with an enzymatic formula? That’s why it’s recommended to use enzymatic toothpaste too! It makes sense that you need to use an enzymatic formula in their mouth along with an enzymatic formula to clean up the drool spot on the floor that was ALSO made from their mouth.

On the eighth day of Christmas my groomer gave to me..

A nail scratching board!!

Hands down a necessity if your pet hates having their nails done!

Nail health is one of the most overlooked aspects of a dog’s day to day life. Typically, dogs don’t scratch their nails down when they start to get long or have the ability to retract them into their paws like cats do. When dogs live their day to day life with overgrown nails, it affects many aspects of their movement- how they walk, how they distribute pressure on their feet, their overall posture, and their exterior foot health as well.

Dog nails naturally grow in a curved direction (ideally, if you were to do a simulation on the growth of a dogs nail, at some point it would create a full circle shape), and when left unattended, we often see the nail grow back into the paw and puncture the skin. This situation is most commonly seen in dewclaws- main nails tend to use the ground to help guide the growth to the side resulting in a spiral turn of the nail. Nonetheless, overly grown nails cause a much more painful experience when it comes to us having to finally trim their nails- another reason many dogs have PTSD from getting PAWdicures.

As for this scratch board, there are different varieties out there, but this specific one has the option to lay down or stand at an angle depending on your dogs flexibility and height. The best part is this one also has a trap door in the center to hide small treats (or kibble) to help train and entice them! It also comes with a couple replacement scratch pad stickers!

On the sixth day of Christmas my groomer gave to me…

A bottle of salmon oil!!

Not only is salmon oil an AMAZING additive to help with dry skin and a shiny coat, it also helps with nail health! We recommend adding salmon oil to ALL pet’s diets- especially those who tend to be itchy or have dry skin.

Did you know a good percent of a pet’s “allergies” are actually just due to dry skin? By investing in a quality food, staying on a strict grooming routine, and incorporating omega 3s, your pet’s overall health could do a complete 180!

What the owner wanted vs what the owner got!!

When ZuZu’s mom said she wanted a lion cut but in a king of the jungle type of way… Leah delivered just that!!

This was so much fun to watch come to life.

Leah has a few openings left for this upcoming week, but if you want a SATURDAY appointment, you better act fast. Leah has room for one more on Saturday the 21st at 1:30! Saturdays do not show up for online booking so you’ll have to contact the shop or a groomer to claim the spot.
