For those of you following, Shasta reentered the ER this evening after I noticed her frustration growls turning to anger, I believed it to be pain-related after a really rough night with her. Turns out, she's got some undiagnosed swelling of the lower lumbar area for some reason. This just seems to keep getting better and better...

My continued thanks to everyone at Indian Springs ER for their care and knowledge. Shasta was sent home with anti-inflammatories and more. Everyone, keep on sending those good thoughts and prayers and mojo. This little girl isn't out of the woods yet.

Here's to a more peaceful night, fingers crossed.

Shasta update - we have been advised to get an MRI to diagnose why Shasta can not see. It is obvious that her eyes are appropriately responding to light levels, at times it appears as if she can see, but she can not. She has been learning how to maneuver small areas in my home and she has been able to maneuver her safe zone during the day to find water, food, bedding and the litter box. While she's still missing the litter box, she's hitting close to it on wee pads. She has a bed made from a large storage tote bottom, cushy pillows and snuggly blankets. Her elevated bowl set arrives tomorrow. She has supervised time for exploring, has developed a walk that seems to keep her sure- footed and is learning to feel the wall edges with her cheeks and whiskers. She is creating a mental map of my home. I've joined several blind cat help groups to teach me to help her cope and the advise is working. I am currently using sounds and familiarity to train her to find her food and other things when I can not be with her or to let her know I've given fresh water or food. She's learning quickly because she's a super smart little girl. She's still medicated, but she is no longer seizing and has stopped circling until she falls over. Unfortunately, the cost of the MRI is 4 to 5 thousand and I can not help her. We are continuing to hope for a miracle.

SHASTA UPDATE.
Shasta's eyes are now responding to light. Although she cannot see objects (still hoping for this to be temporary), she is learning to maneuver and cope with the vertigo that comes with sudden blindness. Her mobility is improving. She is eating well and on a bunch of meds to help her be as good as she can be after this horror. I am so very thankful to the staff and doctors at Indian Springs vet clinic and emergency hospital for the care they've given Shasta, for always answering the phone, for being proactive and hopeful and for watching over her.

No means no for a reason. I am giving you a chance to come and get these guinea pigs you dropped on the front porch a little while ago. If you do not, I will take further action. Video surveillance means you are caught. A sign stating that dumping an animal is illegal means just that.

Tuesday update Shasta is home with me again after amazing care at Indian Springs. Still without sight, but her pupils seems to now be reacting to light and lack of. She is maintaining stance, although still clumsy. She's on fluids, antibiotic and anti seizure meds, hasn't seized since yesterday. Will continue to update, as she hopefully improves. Please continue the positive mojo, thoughts and prayers. She still needs a miracle. Thank you all. UPDATE (Monday) - Shasta is with me now. She has no vision; although she has strength in her legs, she can not walk. She's just finished a small meal after not wanting food since Thursday and is scheduled at the vet later today. Supportive care and prayers, good mohi, etc. is appreciated at this point.

UPDATE (Sunday) - I have not received any further from the clinic since yesterday morning on Shasta. This is nerve wracking. Please continue prayers, positive energy, mojo. All of it. She really needs it.

UPDATE - Sasha is now able to sit in the "loaf" position, but she is still unable to see.

Many of you have met Shasta at our store; an upcoming adoptable. She's a cute little girl, with lots of energy and a plethora of expressions...

Tonight, she fights for her life. She had a very bad reaction to anesthesia, I am told that she died for 30 seconds, was given CPR and epinephrine to revive her. It is suspected that she has a heart condition and this is why she was adversely affected. The neurological effects of having been oxygen deficient have left her both fighting to move and to see again. In short, her brain needs to "reset", but if it does not and she begins to decline, that will mean making the decision we all dread. The clinic sent a message that it seemed she was doing a little better today than yesterday, but I am not able to talk to the doctor or see her until Monday. I don't know anything more right now. Yes, this is a truly crappy situation, but my hope is that it WILL change by Monday. If you pray, I ask you to please send prayers for her full recovery. Whatever you believe in; good vibes, mojo, whatever...she truly needs all of it over these next few days and maybe weeks. In short...she needs a miracle. No animal deserves this.

She appreciates it, I appreciate it. Thank you.

Soapbox time again. Here it comes.

"To be killed..."
"Code Red..."
"Given the euth command..."
"At risk..."

These are just a few of the many phrases used... before an animal will die.

FACT - so many endless killings. Stop the numbers. Spay/neuter.

FACT - many shelters across the states are at double capacity, housing animals in crates lining hallways and offices. Stop the numbers, spay/neuter.

FACT - while the efforts to end senseless euthanization of healthy, adoptable animals is growing, cats and dogs continue to lose their lives because there is no more room for them in the shelters that are still kill with no refusal of intake policy shelters or people simply toss them out to suffer the fate of the street where they try to fend when they haven't got a clue how to. Stop the numbers, spay/neuter.

FACT - many animals entering a kill shelter do NOT get a second chance, never reach the public eye, are led to the table shortly after intake and euthanized, their bodies are part of mass cremation. Stop the numbers, spay/neuter.

FACT - Many animals are surrendered due to new allergies, new babies, too many animals, moving, loss of income, loss of homes, for too many endless and often preventable reasons. Options are always available, find them before you dump them and...spay/neuter.

FACT - Animals entering overcrowded shelters are subject to viruses because of overcrowding, because it just happens. They decline, become ill and are euthanized for getting sick. Others lose the life they knew and act out with distance- increasing behavior so they lose their lives because they are acting out in fear. Stop the numbers, spay/neuter.

FACT - "Spaying and neutering is too expensive." NOT FACT...if you love them enough to feed them when they are inside or out, love them enough to fix them and stop the numbers. There are plenty of options at low cost clinics. Spay/neuter.

FACT - spaying and neutering reduces life-threatening infections of the female and male reproductive systems. Spay/neuter.

FACT - It is NOT just one more puppy or kitten. Each one adds to this growing problem. They suffer, are frightened and they have no voice or way to find help. Even if you can not adopt, there are still many ways to advocate for their well-being, foster for a shelter because it frees up space, reducing costs for care and potential for sicknesses associated with overcrowding. Pledge and honor a monetary donation to an animal you find online, it will entice rescues to pull that animal from the shelter and save it's life.

In the comments below, I have posted numbers... numbers accounting the lives of the animals who lost their lives at just one shelter spanning just 3 short months. I have also posted the photos of a cat whom we recently advocated for. Although we've never met him and may never meet him, we helped save him from hundreds of miles away, helped him get free to find proper care so he could get healthy again. Some of his siblings were not so lucky.

FACT - Spay/neuter, period.

Wyeth has lost THREE teeth!! ‼️He doesn’t appear to be in any pain but he needs a dental visit to the vet! ❤️‍🩹 We know this community has helped support Wyeth before, and we (and he) would so appreciate a bit more support so we can have him fully assessed before we get him adopted! 💗 we really appreciate this community who continues to help us help cats!! 🥰

Please consider donating and/or sharing our post to help us get donations for Wyeth’s dental

🌟Please donate and/or share so we can continue helping Allie Belle!!!! Every dollar helps us get to our goal!🌟we need to raise this money so we can help other cats too❤️‍🩹

The biopsy showed she indeed has Lymphoma but it is very curable 💔 THANKFULLY she is still doing really well with her weekly chemo treatments! Her initial stay and her weekly treatments have been very costly (and life saving) and the vet has even said they are impressed at how well she is doing 💗 She is an incredibly resilient kitten and we promised to help her so we are. ❤️‍🩹

‼️As this is a very large expense for us, please consider donating and/or sharing so others can donate! Every dollar counts! ‼️ We 💯CANNOT take on anything more, and we already have other cats in our care that need medical care too!

Where we came from...

Long ago (1975) and someplace in Apollo, PA (a basement)...a man named Deane decided to turn his fish hobby into a side business after his nine to five grind on the weekdays and all day on weekends. From it’s humble beginnings of painted cement floors in a walk-space fit for three side-by-side strollers, he and his family worked lovingly at his hobby...

...and nurtured it into what it is today.

Back then and in a much more simple world, a wooden hand-painted sign adorned his front yard. Black letters spelled out, “The Fish Bowl” over top (of course) a fish silhouette. The sign was illuminated with a single overhead light under a makeshift canopy, parking was up and down the street and on a first-come, first-serve basis. Sometimes people would walk a block or more from their parking spot in order to visit. Families of folk from near and far came to buy some ornaments and gravel or to pick a pet fish from the selection in a handful of fish tanks. His daughter (me), sold five-year-old hand-painted pet rocks at the reasonable price of 10 cents each.

The highlight of any visit for the customer back then was to watch Deane feed and “pet” his electric eel (wearing heavy-duty rubber gloves of course). To a little “pet rock entrepreneur” watching from the counter, that wet pet seemed too dangerous (and probably too slimy) to entertain. It also seemed that maybe her father was...well, TOTALLY BONKERS, NUTZO!
